Colts' Sam Ehlinger: Serving as emergency QB
Ehlinger (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Texans, but he'll dress and serve as the Colts' emergency quarterback.
Ehlinger doesn't count against the 53-man roster but will be available if Anthony Richardson and Gardner Minshew are forced out of the game. Ehlinger appeared in four games for Indianapolis last year and completed 63 percent of his passes for 573 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Colts' Sam Ehlinger: Strong outing as No. 3 QB
Ehlinger was 9-of-14 passing for 124 yards and had eight carries for 60 yards, including a five-yard touchdown, in Saturday's preseason win over Chicago.
Despite nominally being in the starting quarterback competition to begin training camp, Ehlinger appears locked into the No. 3 quarterback role with Anthony Richardson named the Week 1 starter and Gardner Minshew set as the backup. A larger question may be whether the Colts plan to keep three quarterbacks on the active roster.

Colts' Sam Ehlinger: Sharp in preseason debut
Ehlinger was 8-for-9 passing for 72 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Saturday's preseason loss at Buffalo. He also add two carries for 10 yards.
Ehlinger entered the game in the second half as the third quarterback to play. He was efficient in facing the second- and third-team defense. While he's nominally said to be in the competition for the starting job, he more likely is fighting to keep a spot on the roster, with Gardner Minshew and Anthony Richardson ahead of him.

Colts' Sam Ehlinger: In competition for starting job
Ehlinger will enter training camp in a competition for the starting quarterback role in Indianapolis, Raven Moore of the Colts' official site reports.
Ehlinger appeared in four games (three starts) last season, producing 573 passing yards and three touchdowns while throwing three interceptions. He enters camp as the third quarterback behind Gardner Minshew and first-round pick Anthony Richardson, making it highly unlikely that he'll emerge from the preseason atop the depth chart.
