Player Outlook
Godwin is expected to take off as a target hog in 2023 with Mike Evans' efficiency dropping off a cliff in 2022 and the lack of target competition outside of him. The case for Godwin rests on his individual target share volume, the fact that the Buccaneers will be throwing often while playing from behind, and the fact that he could have another gear to his game now one year removed from the ACL injury. Godwin finished as a WR2 or better in just four weeks during the 2022 season. If he wants to develop into a more consistent Fantasy asset, Godwin's 99th-highest average depth of target (5.6) has to rise. Godwin projects more as a WR3 in 2023.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Modest performance in loss

Godwin brought in three of five targets for 32 yards and caught a two-point conversion pass in the Buccaneers' 25-11 loss to the Eagles on Monday night. Godwin finished tied for second in receptions and was the runner-up in receiving yards on the night for the Buccaneers. Baker Mayfield predictably endured a difficult night overall against a talented Eagles defense, so Godwin's modest numbers should mostly be viewed in that context. However, it's also important to note Godwin's three-game body of work with Mayfield has been underwhelming as a whole, as he has just 13 receptions for 141 yards and no touchdowns across 19 targets heading into a tough Week 4 road matchup against the Saints.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Sleeper WRs

It feels strange to put Godwin in the sleeper section given his career, but this is where we are heading into Week 3. He's had a quiet start to the season at 10.5 PPR points per game with just 10 catches for 109 yards and no touchdowns on 14 targets, and Mike Evans has been the go-to guy for Baker Mayfield. But I like Godwin's chances for a quality outing in Week 3 against the Eagles. Philadelphia slot corner Avonte Maddox (pectoral) was placed on injured reserve, and the Eagles have struggled with receivers this season as four guys have scored at least 12.4 PPR points, with four touchdowns. Evans is a must-start Fantasy receiver in all leagues with how he's played in two games, but Godwin should be considered a high-end No. 3 option given the matchup.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Five catches in Week 2 win

Godwin secured five of eight targets for 58 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-17 win over the Bears on Sunday. Godwin put together a second straight solid performance to open the campaign, although he was again outpaced statistically by fellow wideout Mike Evans. Godwin finished a distant second to his teammate in yardage, although 70 of Evans' 171 came on a catch-and-run play. Meanwhile, the two players co-led the Buccaneers in targets, which should offer some encouragement to Godwin's fantasy managers. He'll look to make a bigger mark, albeit in a tough matchup, versus the Eagles in a Week 3 home matchup Monday night, Sept. 25.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Five catches to open season

Godwin secured five of six targets for 51 yards in the Buccaneers' 20-17 win over the Vikings on Sunday. Godwin served as the runner-up to Mike Evans in receptions, receiving yards and targets, with the dependable Penn State product joining the latter as Baker Mayfield's two most trusted pass catchers on the afternoon. That should largely be the norm most weeks this season, and Godwin's final catch of the day, an 11-yard grab on third down at the two-minute warning that essentially sealed the win for Tampa Bay, is a fitting example of the veteran's reliability in clutch scenarios. Godwin's first opportunity to build on a solid start to the season comes in a Week 2 home matchup against the Bears.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: WRs to Start

I like Godwin and Mike Evans this week against a revamped Minnesota secondary. We'll see how new defensive coordinator Brian Flores does with this group, but there are a lot of moving parts, which could lead to some mistakes. And this game could be a shootout if Baker Mayfield doesn't implode. The projected point total is 45.5, and I think the Buccaneers will hold up their end of the bargain. Godwin should be the leader in targets for Mayfield, but Evans could also make some big plays in this matchup. Both have top-20 upside in Week 1.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Playing with Mayfield in finale

Godwin will have first in-game opportunity to work with newly named starting quarterback Baker Mayfield in Saturday's preseason finale against the Ravens, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports. Mayfield was named the starting quarterback Tuesday after winning a tightly contested job battle with Kyle Trask. The Buccaneers then announced the 2018 first overall pick would play the first half versus Baltimore along with Godwin and Mike Evans, giving the trio their first in-game opportunity to work together. Godwin and the rest of his offensive teammates have been learning new coordinator Dave Canales' system since OTAs, and the versatile Penn State product should see plenty of action in the short and intermediate areas of the field that the scheme is expected to focus on.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Unlikely to play Friday

Godwin isn't in line to play in Friday's preseason contest versus the Steelers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Both Godwin and Mike Evans aren't suiting up for Tampa Bay's exhibition opener, which will give Russell Gage, Trey Palmer, Deven Thompkins and David Moore, among others, a chance for reps at wide receiver. Godwin's next opportunity for some preseason action will happen Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Jets.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Feeling good ahead of 2023

Godwin is set to enter the 2023 season with a clean bill of health, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Godwin said Wednesday that he was in "survivor mode" in 2022 and that he's "excited to be healthy" and ready to perform at a high level in 2023. The wide receiver was hindered by hip and knee injuries last season, but he still compiled a career-high 104 catches for 1,023 receiving yards and three touchdowns over 15 contests. Now operating without Tom Brady, Godwin's fantasy value will likely take a slight hit with either Baker Mayfield or Kyle Trask under center this season.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: To see more outside work

Godwin, who played 60 percent of his snaps in the slot in 2022, is expected to see more work on the perimeter during the upcoming season, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. Smith adds that when factoring in formations in which Godwin lined up tight with the offensive line or in the backfield, the veteran wideout was on the outside for just 27 percent of his 834 snaps from scrimmage. Godwin's production certainly wasn't any worse for it -- he recorded a career-high 104 receptions and posted his third career 1,000-yard season in the process -- but he also took plenty of contact in close quarters and averaged a career-low 7.2 yards per target and 9.8 yards per reception. Therefore, new offensive coordinator Dave Canales and new wide receivers coach Brad Idzik plan to incorporate some of the methods they utilized with DK Metcalf in Seattle to give Godwin more frequent breaks from the slot while also capitalizing on his still-viable downfield speed.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Ten catches in wild-card loss

Godwin secured 10 of 13 targets for 85 yards in the Buccaneers' 31-14 wild-card loss to the Cowboys on Monday night. Godwin paced the Buccaneers in receptions, receiving yards and targets on the night, a fitting encore to a regular season in which he racked up a career-high 104 catches, along with 1,023 yards and three touchdowns, over 15 games. Godwin did average a career-low 9.8 yards per grab however, and he was once again consistently used in short areas Monday night. The veteran wideout figures to remain a key component of Tampa Bay's air attack in 2023, but the big question will be who he'll be catching passes from considering Tom Brady may not be back.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Paces pass catchers in loss

Godwin brought in six of seven targets for 55 yards in the Buccaneers' 30-17 loss to the Falcons on Sunday. He also lost a fumble. Godwin paced the Buccaneers in receptions and receiving yards while checking in second in targets on a day when the starters played for only a portion of the first half. That allotment of playing time was enough for Godwin to post another solid performance, with Mike Evans' early exit due to an illness also helping his case for more targets. Godwin will head into next weekend's wild-card home playoff matchup having posted at least six grabs in all but two of 14 regular-season contests.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Nine catches in Week 17 win

Godwin secured all nine targets for 120 yards and recorded a two-point conversion catch in the Buccaneers' 30-24 win over the Panthers on Sunday. He also lost a fumble. Were it not for the exploits of position mate Mike Evans, Godwin's performance would have been the talk of the afternoon for the Buccaneers. The trusted target checked in second across the stat sheet to Evans, and his two-point grab after Evans' third touchdown reception gave Tampa Bay a key three-point lead at the time. Godwin has at least eight catches in five of the last six games, while his yardage total was his highest of the season and leaves him just 32 yards short of the third 1,000-yard campaign of his career going into a Week 18 road matchup against the Falcons.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Racks up catches in OT win

Godwin secured eight of 10 targets for 63 yards in the Buccaneers' 19-16 overtime win over the Cardinals on Sunday night. Godwin led Buccaneers wideouts in receptions and checked in third overall in receiving yards while tying Leonard Fournette for the team lead in targets. The sixth-year wideout has now logged double-digit looks in the passing game in three of the past five contests and has at least eight receptions in four of those games, making him a highly valuable PPR asset going into a Week 17 divisional clash against the Panthers that could decide the NFC South crown.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Makes most of eight targets

Godwin corralled all eight of his targets for 83 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-23 loss to the Bengals. Godwin was able to convert all of his targets into receptions for the third time this year, boosting his season catch rate to a solid 70 percent in the process. It was just the 26-year-old's third touchdown of 2022, as the Bucs have struggled as a unit in the red zone. Godwin will look to build off this strong performance with a plus matchup looming against the Cardinals on Sunday.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Five catches against Niners

Godwin caught five of nine targets for 54 yards in Sunday's 35-7 loss to the 49ers. On a rough day for the Tampa Bay offense, Godwin led the team in receiving yards, although most of it came on a 32-yard grab late in the second quarter. It's his fourth straight game with at least 50 yards, eighth straight with at least eight targets and 10th straight with at least five catches, giving him a reliable floor heading into a Week 15 clash with the Bengals.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Paces pass catchers in win

Godwin brought in eight of 13 targets for 63 yards in the Buccaneers' 17-16 win over the Saints on Monday night. Godwin paced the Buccaneers in receptions, receiving yards and targets on the night, serving as the workhorse of the pass-catching crew yet again. The veteran wideout recorded his final three catches on Tampa Bay's last two drives, and he actually had a five-yard touchdown grab with 19 seconds remaining erased by a holding call on Donovan Smith. Godwin now has six double-digit target tallies in the last seven games, and he should be in line for another very busy afternoon against a talented but beatable 49ers secondary in a Week 14 road matchup.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Monster volume day in loss

Godwin secured 12 of 13 targets for 110 yards and a touchdown in the Buccaneers' 23-17 overtime loss to the Browns on Sunday. Godwin comfortably paced the Buccaneers in receptions, receiving yards and targets while also securing the only touchdown among the team's wideouts. Godwin's score came from 10 yards out in the first quarter, his second trip to the end zone in as many games after not recording any in the first seven contests of the campaign. Godwin has no fewer than six receptions in any game since Week 1, giving him a very safe fantasy floor ahead of a Week 13 Monday night divisional clash against the Saints.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: Start 'Em

Godwin finally scored in Week 10 against Seattle, and hopefully that will start a streak of him continuing to find the end zone. He has at least eight targets and six catches in five games in a row, and he has at least 71 receiving yards in three games over that span. He should have a floor of 13 PPR points on a weekly basis, and his ceiling should continue to rise with Tampa Bay coming off a bye in Week 11. The Browns have allowed six receivers to score at least 12 PPR points in their past five games, which should bode well for Godwin and Mike Evans in this matchup on the road.

  • Buccaneers' Chris Godwin: First touchdown of season

Godwin recorded six receptions on eight targets for 71 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-16 win over the Seahawks. Godwin managed at least six receptions for the seventh consecutive game, though he showcased some more big-play ability. He caught what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown from four yards away early in the fourth quarter -- also his first of the season. In addition to the score, Godwin accounted for three of the Buccaneers' 10 longest plays from scrimmage, highlighted by gains of 19, 18 and 13 yards. With the performance, he's also topped 70 receiving yards in three of his last five games.
