Mason Schreck: Cut by Texans
Schreck was waived by the Texans on Monday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Schreck spent his first four seasons in Cincinnati before joining the Texans in 2022. He suited up for three games but primarily worked on the team's practice squad. That appears to be his likely destination again this year, but he could opt to look elsewhere for opportunities as well.

Texans' Mason Schreck: Inks contract
Schreck signed a reserve/future contract with the Texans on Tuesday.
Schreck spent his first four seasons with Chicago before landing in Houston during the offseason. Although he did not earn a spot on the Texans' 53-man roster during training camp, he did sign to their practice squad and ultimately saw action in two regular-season games. The 29-year-old recorded six yards on two receptions during that time. He will look to make an impression with the team during the offseason and potentially earn a bigger role in 2023.

Schreck played 10 offensive snaps in Houston's Week 15 overtime loss to the Chiefs. That usage ranked a distant third behind Teagan Quitoriano (51 snaps) and Jordan Akins (30 snaps) among Texans tight ends, and Schreck unsurprisingly wasn't targeted.

Schreck was elevated from Houston's practice squad for the first time this season after signing with the team in late August. With Pharaoh Brown (hip/shoulder) and Brevin Jordan (ankle) both inactive Week 4, the 28-year-old played 19 of his team's 57 offensive snaps behind tight ends O.J. Howard and Jordan Akins. Schreck caught both of his targets for 13 yards, notching an 8-yard touchdown in Friday's preseason win over the Rams.
Schreck snagged a throw along the back edge of the end zone for Houston's game-winning score with just over a minute left in the game. That Schreck was on the field in the final minutes is an indication he's not in line for the team's final roster. Houston has three incumbents at tight end and drafted a fourth in the fifth round of the 2022 draft, so Schreck will need factors beyond his control to move up the depth chart.
