Panthers' Raheem Blackshear: Inks contract tender
Blackshear signed his contract tender with the Panthers on Thursday, Anthony Rizzuti of USA Today reports.
Blackshear is officially sticking with Carolina on a one-year deal, after having begun the offseason as an exclusive rights free agent. The running back has mostly contributed on special teams and as a kick returner for the Panthers, but he figures to also help as a depth player behind Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders in 2024.

Panthers' Raheem Blackshear: Tendered by Panthers

Panthers' Raheem Blackshear: Gets two touches in Week 14
Blackshear played four of 80 snaps on offense and carried once for four yards to go with one reception for four yards on two targets in Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Saints. He also brought back two kickoffs for 37 yards.
Though Carolina was on the wrong end of a blowout, Blackshear was worked into the backfield mix before the game devolved into garbage time. His carry came in the first quarter, and both of his targets came while the Panthers were trailing by two scores. In addition to filling his usual duties as Carolina's kickoff return man, Blackshear has started to see more involvement on offense in the second half of the season, though he's still third on the depth chart at running back behind Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders. Through eight appearances on the campaign, Blackshear has carried 13 times for 40 yards to go with six catches for 45 yards on seven targets.

Blackshear (groin) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
The 25-year-old running back out of Virginia Tech was limited in Wednesday's practice with a groin injury, but it now seems as if he's moved past the issue. Blackshear has been more involved in Carolina's offense over the last two games, recording 53 yards on 11 total touches.

It's not immediately obvious when Blackshear sustained the groin injury or how severe it might be. In any case, he'll likely need to practice in full Thursday or Friday to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.

Blackshear rushed five times for 18 yards and caught his only target for four yards in Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Dolphins.
Blackshear was promoted to Carolina's second-string tailback with usual starter Miles Sanders (shoulder) sidelined. Panthers' Raheem Blackshear: Makes 53-man roster
Blackshear is a part of the Panthers' initial 53-man roster following roster cuts Tuesday, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
Blackshear joins Miles Sanders (groin) and Chuba Hubbard as the running backs to make the team, while Carolina moved on from Spencer Brown and Camerun Peoples. In three preseason appearances, Blackshear turned 12 carries into 42 yards and one touchdown while hauling in all three targets for six yards and returning one kickoff for 29 yards. There's an expectation that Sanders will be healthy for Week 1, so Blackshear may have to bide his time on special teams while waiting for an opportunity on offense behind Sanders and Hubbard.

Panthers' Raheem Blackshear: Finds end zone Friday
Blackshear carried the ball eight times for 31 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason loss to the Giants.
The second-year running back led the Panthers in rushing yards and scored the team's only TD on the ground. Blackshear's fantasy appeal could be on the rise, as Miles Sanders (groin) once again wasn't in the lineup and Chuba Hubbard (ankle) didn't return after getting injured on the first play of the second quarter. However, it was Spencer Brown (10 carries for 26 yards, one catch for seven yards) who took over for Hubbard, while Blackshear didn't see his first touch on offense until late in the third quarter. Should the injuries to Sanders and Hubbard linger into the regular season, it's not yet clear whether Blackshear or Brown would assume lead duties.

Blackshear rushed once for two yards and caught both of his targets for four yards in Saturday's 27-0 preseason loss to the Jets. He also returned two kickoffs for 37 yards and one punt for 10 yards.
Blackshear is currently competing with Spencer Brown for Carolina's third-string running back job. Although Brown led the team with eight rushes for 34 yards compared to Blackshear's minimal offensive output, the latter's value on special teams could work to his advantage in making the 53-man roster.
