  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Staying in South Beach

The Dolphins re-signed Wilson to a two-year contract Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. With the team also retaining Raheem Mostert, Miami now brings back its core backfield duo from the second half of the 2022 season. After the 49ers dealt Wilson to South Beach at the trade deadline last November, he racked up 96 touches for 486 yards from scrimmage and four TDs from Weeks 9-18, while Mostert racked up a 98-544-3 line in the same span. Expect a similar breakdown for the pair in the coming campaign.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Wants back in Miami

Wilson said Monday he hopes to re-sign with the Dolphins, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. Wilson signed agent Drew Rosenhaus as his new representative and said he "hopes it's very likely" he returns to Miami for the 2023 season. The Dolphins made a midseason trade with the 49ers last year to acquire Wilson in exchange for a fifth-round pick, and the 27-year-old logged an efficient 4.7 YPC and three touchdowns in eight games with his new team. With Raheem Mostert also a pending free agent, it could make sense for Miami to bring back one or both of the veteran backs, both of whom are extensively familiar with coach Mike McDaniel's scheme.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Touchdown in defeat

Wilson rushed 10 times for 23 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-31 loss to the Bills in the wild-card round. He also caught one of four targets for 13 yards. Wilson started with Raheem Mostert (thumb) sidelined and made it a one-score game with his one-yard touchdown during the fourth quarter. Although it otherwise wasn't a very productive performance from Wilson, he made a good impact upon joining the Dolphins midway through this season, rushing 84 times for 392 yards (4.7 per carry) and three touchdowns in eight games. He also caught 12 of 24 targets for 94 yards and another score. With Wilson an unrestricted free agent this offseason, it'll be interesting to see whether his familiarity with Miami head coach Mike McDaniel will result in the tailback returning to the team.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Set for lead role in playoff opener

Wilson is set to lead Miami's backfield in Sunday's playoff game against the Bills, as Adam Beasley of Pro Football Network reports that Raheem Mostert (thumb) has been ruled out. Wilson should see the bulk of carries in Mostert's absence, and Miami will likely try to lean on its running game with third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson under center. Salvon Ahmed will back up Wilson, who mustered 52 scrimmage yards and a touchdown on 14 touches against the Texans when Mostert sat out in Week 12.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Practices fully Thursday

Wilson (illness) returned to a full practice Thursday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports. Wilson was listed as a limited participant at practice Wednesday due to an illness, but the running back's return to a full session one day later puts him on track to be available for Sunday's wild-card round matchup against the Bills. Meanwhile, Raheem Mostert (thumb) missed his second straight practice Thursday, and if he's out this weekend, Wilson would likely be in store for an expanded workload in Miami's backfield versus Buffalo.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Logs limited practice

Wilson was a limited participant at practice Wednesday due to an illness, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports. Wilson now has two more chances to return to a full session prior to Sunday's wild-card game against the Bills. As long as he's able to suit up this weekend, Wilson could be in line for a hefty workload, given that fellow running back Raheem Mostert is dealing with a thumb injury that clouds his status for the postseason opener.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Productive in Week 18 win

Wilson rushed 16 times for 72 yards and secured both targets for two yards in the Dolphins' 11-6 win over the Jets on Sunday. Wilson and backfield mate Raheem Mostert (thumb) consistently made inroads against a Jets run defense that had its share of trouble on the road most of the season. Wilson's long run was a relatively modest 16 yards, so he consistently garnered productive gains in support of rookie starting quarterback Skylar Thompson. Wilson should once again have a key role in next weekend's wild-card road matchup against the Bills -- especially if Mostert is limited or sidelined -- as Miami undoubtedly endeavors to keep the ball out of the hands of Josh Allen and his explosive skill-position weapons as much as possible.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Inefficient in narrow loss

Wilson logged 15 carries for 45 yards and secured three of seven targets for 31 yards during Sunday's 23-21 loss to New England. Wilson was less effective than Raheem Mostert through the air, but he saw six more opportunities on the ground and just two less targets in Miami's continued backfield timeshare. His usage as a receiver was influenced by the Dolphins' quarterback situation, and coach Mike McDaniel could deploy a similar plan in Week 18 versus the Jets as both Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) and Teddy Bridgewater (finger) look to be in danger of missing the contest, leaving seventh-round rookie Skylar Thompson under center.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: RBs to Sit

You never know how the backfield split will go in Miami with Wilson and Raheem Mostert, but I would try to avoid both in Week 17 at New England. Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) could be out, and the Patriots run defense is still a strength. For the season, New England is No. 2 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs, and the Patriots have allowed just four total touchdowns to the position this year. Mostert has one game with more than four PPR points in his past four outings, and it was Week 15 at Buffalo when Wilson was out with a hip injury. And Wilson scored in Week 16 against Green Bay but had just 10 total touches. I like Wilson better than Mostert, but he's just a flex at best in all leagues.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Sit Them (Lineup Decisions)

Wilson's only edge over Mostert is his role inside the 10-yard line, something that helped him outperform Mostert in Week 16. Mostert's the better runner, but that hasn't stopped Mike McDaniel from using both backs. McDaniel's larger issue is not leaning on the run game whatsoever. When the Dolphins lost Tagovailoa before, McDaniel didn't change his playcalling tendencies much, and you kind of can't blame him given his offensive line (it's not great) and his receivers (they're great). Both backs are tough to trust beyond the flex range, and it's Wilson ahead of Mostert. Better options include James Cook, Isiah Pacheco and Zonovan Knight.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Gets into end zone on Christmas

Wilson carried the ball nine times for 37 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-20 loss to the Packers. He also caught one of two targets for three yards. His one-yard TD plunge early in the second quarter gave Miami a 17-10 lead, but the Dolphins' offense imploded and committed four turnovers after that. Wilson has gotten into the end zone in four of his last six games but hasn't reached 40 rushing yards in four straight, giving him limited fantasy appeal heading into a Week 17 clash with the Patriots.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Suits up Sunday

Wilson (hip) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Packers. Wilson, who was able to practice this past week in a limited fashion, is thus in line to rejoin the mix after a one-game absence. In his return to action Sunday, Wilson will look to reclaim a role in a Miami backfield that was led effectively by Raheem Mostert (17 carries for 136 yards) in the team's Week 15 loss to the Bills, a potential timeshare context that makes Wilson a speculative fantasy lineup option versus Green Bay.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Questionable for Sunday

Wilson (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Packers after practicing in a limited fashion this week, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. That Wilson was able to practice all week, albeit in a limited fashion, suggests the running back has a chance to return to action Sunday after being inactive this past Saturday against the Bills. If that happens, Wilson would be in line to reclaim his role in a Miami backfield that was led effectively by Raheem Mostert (17 carries for 136 yards) in Week 15, a context that would make Wilson a risky fantasy option versus Green Bay.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Another limited practice

Wilson (hip) remained limited at practice Thursday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Wilson indicated that his hip is feeling better, but the running back isn't quite ready to commit to playing Sunday against the Packers. Friday's final injury report will add context with regard to Wilson's Week 16 status, but if he's able to return to action this weekend, he'd rejoin a backfield that was led capably by Raheem Mostert (17 carries for 136 yards) in Wilson's absence this past Saturday against the Bills.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Limited in practice

Wilson (hip) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Wilson nearly was able to play in this past Saturday's loss to the Bills -- a sign that the running back is expected back for this Sunday's matchup with the Packers. A return to full practice Thursday or Friday would confirm that expectation and allow Wilson to resume his role splitting backfield snaps with Raheem Mostert, who had season highs for rushing yards (136), scrimmage yards (156) and snap share (76 percent) in the Week 15 loss.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Deemed day-to-day

Head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Wilson (hip) was close to playing Saturday against Buffalo and is considered day-to-day moving forward, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. Wilson missed his first game of the season Week 15 due to a hip injury he suffered against the Chargers in Week 14, but it appears the running back will have a good chance to suit up against the Packers on Christmas Day. However, Miami's injury report during Week 16 prep figures to provide some clarity on Wilson's availability for that contest.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Inactive in Week 15

Wilson (hip) is listed as inactive Saturday at Buffalo. Wilson thus will miss at least one game due to the hip injury that he sustained last Sunday night at the Chargers. In advance of Saturday's contest, he managed just one limited listing on Dolphins practice reports during Week 15 prep, so he may need to do a bit more this coming week to gain clearance for game action. With Wilson sidelined, Raheem Mostert will be the main running back for Miami, while Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin are on hand for any backfield reps that linger.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Questionable for Saturday's game

Wilson (hip) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Bills after being listed as limited in Thursday's practice, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. Per David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Wilson is trending toward being a game-time decision Saturday. If the running back isn't able to face Buffalo, Raheem Mostert would step in as Miami's clear lead back Week 15, with Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin available in reserve.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Sits out walk-through session

Wilson (hip) was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's walk-through practice, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. After having been listed as a non-participant on both of the Dolphins' first two practice reports of Week 15, Wilson looks to be trending toward sitting out Saturday's game against the Bills. More clarity on his status will come following the release of Thursday's practice report, but if Wilson isn't able to face Buffalo, Raheem Mostert would have the lead-back role to himself.

  • Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Tabbed as non-participant in practice

Wilson (hip) was listed as a non-participant Tuesday on the Dolphins' first Week 15 injury report, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports. Tuesday's report was merely an estimate since the Dolphins didn't take the field for practice, but Wilson wouldn't have been available to take part in drills had the team held a session. The running back will have two more chances to get in some practice reps before the Dolphins return to action Saturday at Buffalo, though at this stage of the week, Wilson looks questionable to play, at best. If Wilson is sidelined for the Week 15 contest, Raheem Mostert would take on a more pronounced role as Miami's lead back, while one of Salvon Ahmed or Myles Gaskin could have a role as a secondary option out of the backfield.
