Jones tallied 145 tackles (74 solo), 4.5 sacks and six passes defended during the 2023 regular season.
With former teammate Bobby Wagner departing for Seattle, the third-year pro took another leap in performance, setting career highs in snaps, tackles, sacks and passes defended while anchoring the defense alongside Aaron Donald. Jones' 145 tackles (in just 15 regular-season games) set the Rams record for most tackles in a single season, eclipsing the 142 James Laurinaitis recorded in 2011 and tied in 2012. Jones is entering the final year of his rookie deal in 2024, and given the multi-faceted abilities he's showcased as the head of a young Rams linebacker corps, it wouldn't be shocking to see Jones earn a contract extension to continue his role as a leader on defense.

Rams' Ernest Jones: Not playing Week 18
Jones (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Jones was among seven key contributors that the Rams listed as doubtful -- and one of five for noninjury reasons -- ahead of the regular-season finale. The Rams will be the NFC's No. 6 or 7 seed regardless of the outcome of Week 18 games, so Jones and some of the team's other stars will get a respite Sunday to avoid sustaining potential injuries in advance of the postseason. The linebacker finishes the regular season with 145 tackles, 4.5 sacks and six pass breakups over 15 appearances.

Rams' Ernest Jones: Will rest in Week 18
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Jones won't play Sunday in San Francisco, Greg Beacham of the Associated Press reports.
With Los Angeles having locked up playoff spot, the team is electing to rest several of its starters on both sides of the ball in the regular-season finale. Jones thus will finish his third NFL season with a career-high 145 tackles (74 solo) to go with 4.5 sacks over 15 contests.

Jones recorded 13 tackles (seven solo), one quarterback hit and one tackle for loss during Sunday's 26-25 victory against the Giants.
Despite coming into the contest questionable with an illness, the third-year linebacker played every snap on defense and resumed his role as team leader in tackles. Jones' 13 stops marked his eighth time this season with double digits in that category, and his 145 tackles this season has him tied for seventh overall in the NFL with T.J. Jones missed the Rams' Week 9 loss to the Packers due to a knee injury but had the team's Week 10 bye to recover. His ability to practice in full to begin Week 11 prep suggests that he should be able to suit up Sunday against Seattle.
