  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Scores in romp over Raiders

Shakir caught his only target for 11 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 38-10 win over the Raiders.

The Bills have a crowded offense, and barring injury, it's going to be tough for anyone else to leapfrog the big three of Stefon Diggs, James Cook and Gabe Davis. Shakir is instead battling for the leftovers with the 1-2 punch at tight end of Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid, as well as fellow depth receivers Trent Sherfield and Deonte Harty. Shakir played only 15 percent of the offensive snaps in Sunday's win, less than Sherfield (41 percent) or Harty (19 percent).

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Practicing Wednesday

Shakir (rib) returned to practice Wednesday, Sal Capaccio of WGR 550 Sports Radio reports.

Shakir is back healthy with almost two weeks to spare before the Sept. 11 regular-season opener against the Jets. The second-year wide receiver will now set his sights on seizing the third spot on Buffalo's depth chart behind Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield are Shakir's top challengers for the No. 3 role.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Not slated to play Saturday

Shakir (ribs) is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Bears, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.

Shakir will now focus on recovering from his rib injury in time for Week 1 action. Once he's back in the mix, the 2022 fifth-rounder will continue to compete with Trent Sherfield and Deonte Harty for slotting behind Buffalo's top WR duo of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Remains sidelined

Shakir (ribs) won't practice Thursday, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

With Shakir dealing with a rib issue, the 2022 fifth-rounder could be held out of Saturday's preseason finale against the Bears. Once Shakir is back in action, he'll continue to compete with Trent Sherfield and Deonte Harty for slotting behind the Bills' clear-cut top WR duo of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Misses Tuesday's session

Shakir missed Tuesday's practice due to a rib injury, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

The Bills haven't indicated that the injury is anything serious, but Shakir is jockeying for positioning in the team's receiver pecking order, so any missed time could prove costly. He's coming off a two-catch, 25-yard performance Saturday against the Steelers and seems to be slotted third or fourth on the Bills' depth chart heading into Saturday's preseason finale against the Bears.

  • Bills' Khalil Shakir: Records two catches Saturday

Shakir caught two of four targets for 25 yards in Saturday's 23-19 preseason win over the Colts.

Shakir -- who is vying for the third spot on the depth chart -- got some decent run with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis sitting out the preseason opener. The opposite was true for the 23-year-old Shakir in his rookie season, as the Bills were fortunate to keep their top three receivers healthy for most of the year. After Isaiah McKenzie departed in free agency, Shakir is a candidate to play his way into the vacant role this preseason. His next opportunity to prove himself will come against the Steelers on Saturday.
