Top Joey Slye News

  • Jaguars' Joey Slye: Signing with Jacksonville

Slye is signing a one-year contract with the Jaguars, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The Jags and Commanders now have swapped kickers, after Brandon McManus signed with Washington last week. The difference is that McManus figures to essentially be handed a starting job, whereas Slye is less proven and may have to compete with reserve/future signee Riley Patterson. Slye's career field-goal percentage (82.3) and PAT percentage (88.5) both are subpar by modern standards, though he does have a strong leg and has made 20 of 32 tries from 50-plus yards in his career.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Makes field-goal attempt in defeat

Slye made a field goal and an extra point in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Cowboys.

Slye's lone field goal came from 36 yards out, bringing his tally to 19-for-24 on the season (79 percent). The Virginia Tech product didn't see much work this season, with 28 other kickers seeing more FGAs. The 27-year-old is set to be a free agent this offseason after signing a two-year contract with the Commanders in April 2022.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Makes field goal in loss

Slye made his only field-goal attempt and extra-point try in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the 49ers.

Washington scored all 10 of its points in the second quarter, first on a 47-yard field goal from Slye and then via a Terry McLaurin touchdown catch that Slye followed with an extra point. The Commanders close out the season by hosting the Cowboys in Week 18.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Again held without a field goal

Slye did not attempt a field goal and made all four of his extra-point tries during Sunday's 30-28 loss to the Jets.

Slye is on a three-game streak without a field goal, a pattern that would be concerning even if Washington wasn't finishing out the regular season with two difficult defensive matchups against the 49ers and Cowboys. Through 15 games this season, Slye has made just 17 of 22 field-goal tries for a career-worst 77 percent conversion rate.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: No field goals again

Slye did not attempt a field goal and made two of three extra-point tries in Sunday's 28-20 loss to the Rams.

Syle has now gone two straight games without a field goal after he missed his lone attempt in the Commanders' previous game against the Dolphins. The veteran kicker has just 22 FGAs on the season, converting 17 of those (77.0 percent success rate). His PAT miss Sunday was his third of the season on 29 attempts. Next up for Syle and Washington is a Week 16 matchup with the Jets.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Misses lone field-goal attempt

Slye missed his only field-goal attempt but converted his only extra-point try in Sunday's 45-15 loss versus the Dolphins.

Washington's offense was only able to log 245 total yards in Week 13, so Slye's opportunities to kick were predictably few and far between. His only chance at a field goal didn't come until the fourth quarter when the game was already out of reach, and he pushed the 53-yard attempt wide right. After a bye in Week 14, the Commanders will travel to take on a middling Rams defense.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Knocks down only field goal in loss

Slye converted on a 43-yard field-goal try and his lone extra-point attempt during Thursday's 45-10 loss to Dallas.

Slye wasn't presented many scoring opportunities in Thursday's blowout loss, with the Commanders finding themselves trailing significantly from an early stage. Washington's offense will look to get back on track versus the Dolphins in Week 13, though Miami's defense has notably improved of late.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Makes two field goals in loss

Slye was able to connect on both of his field-goal tries but converted just one of two extra-point attempts in Sunday's 31-19 loss to the Giants.

Slye missed a PAT attempt for the second week in a row, although he remained perfect for the fourth straight week on FGAs. The Virginia Tech product was good from 23 yards in the first quarter, then was successful again from 42 yards in the third quarter. Next up for Slye and the Commanders is a Thanksgiving Day divisional matchup with the Cowboys.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Misses extra point

Syle made both of his field-goal attempts in the Commanders' 29-26 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday, but he was only able to connect on two of three extra-point tries.

Slye's PAT miss hit the left upright after the team scored on its opening drive. He was perfect from there, hitting 49- and 47-yard field goals in the second and third quarters, respectively. He'll take the field again in Week 11 against the Giants.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Perfect in close win

Slye converted both of his two field-goal attempts and both of his two extra-point tries in Sunday's 20-17 win at New England.

None of his kicks approached the range of the 61-yarder he made in Week 8, but Slye did enough in Week 9 to help Washington secure the win. In Week 10, the Commanders offense draws a favorable matchup against a below-average Seattle defense.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Breaks franchise record Sunday

Slye converted his only field-goal attempt and all four of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 38-31 loss versus Philadelphia.

On an otherwise uneventful day for Slye, he got a chance to break Washington's franchise record for its longest field goal at the end of the first half, and he booted a 61-yarder between the uprights to put the Commanders up 17-10 over their division rival at the break. It's the third straight game in which Slye has only been called on for one field-goal attempt, though, and things aren't getting much easier for Washington, which will have to travel to a hostile environment in New England for Week 9.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Has chip shot blocked Sunday

Slye failed to convert his only field-goal attempt but made his lone extra-point try in Sunday's 14-7 loss at the Giants.

On a day where Washington struggled to get much of anything going offensively, Slye was only called out for one field-goal try. Leonard Williams rose up to block the 27-yarder early in the fourth quarter to maintain the Giants' touchdown advantage. The Commanders figure to be heavy underdogs in Week 8 versus Philadelphia, capping fantasy expectations for Slye in that contest.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Gets job done in win

Slye made his only field-goal attempt and all of his three extra-point tries in Sunday's 24-16 win at Atlanta.

Slye's toughest task of the day was a 37-yard field goal after the first drive of the game, and he drove it dead center between the uprights. He has struggled somewhat on longer kicks through six games this season, but that might not matter much when Washington travels to take on a weak Giants defense in Week 7.

  • Commanders' Joey Slye: Misses key kick Thursday

Slye converted two of his three field-goal attempts in Thursday's 40-20 loss versus Chicago.

After the Bears jumped out to a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter, it was clear Washington would be playing catch-up and that Slye's opportunities would be few and far between. The Commanders opted to try for two after both of their two touchdowns on the night and eventually threatened to cut the game down to a one-score margin with five minutes to play. However, Slye pushed a 46-yard attempt wide to the right, effectively putting the contest out of reach. He projects as an average (at best) fantasy option at kicker in Week 6, even given he'll be playing indoors.
