Panthers' Preston Williams: Promoted to active roster Week 18
The Panthers elevated Williams from the practice squad Saturday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Williams has spent the entirety of the 2022 campaign on Carolina's practice squad after being released as part of the Dolphins' final preseason-roster cuts. The 25-year-old, who logged six catches on 16 targets for 71 yards across eight games last season, should be in line for his Carolina debut heading into Sunday's regular-season finale versus New Orleans. Expect Williams to slot into a reserve role alongside wideouts Rashard Higgins and Andre Roberts.

Preston Williams: Joins Panthers' practice squad
Williams was signed to the Panthers' practice squad Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Williams found a new home in Carolina after he was let go by the Dolphins prior to the NFL's 53-man active roster deadline last Tuesday. The 6-foot-5 receiver played in eight games in each of the last three seasons, collecting 56 receptions, 787 yards and seven receiving touchdowns in that span. He'll figure to add depth for Carolina's WR corps and is a candidate for promotion or elevation to the active roster if the team is bothered by injuries throughout the 2022 campaign.

Preston Williams: Waived by Miami
The Dolphins waived Williams on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Williams won a starting job as a rookie undrafted free agent in 2019 but never got back on track after major injuries cut short his first two seasons. He's played only 24 games in three years, and the Dolphins reportedly weren't able to trade him. The 25-year-old could nonetheless get a shot with another team at some point.

Dolphins' Preston Williams: Could be traded
Williams is a potential trade candidate for the Dolphins and has had limited opportunities during training camp, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Williams has been outshone by rookie fourth-round pick Erik Ezukanma and undrafted free agent Braylon Sanders throughout training camp, while the likes of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Cedrick Wilson are entrenched atop the depth chart. Considering the fact that Williams hasn't proven an ability to contribute on special teams, he could be left on the outside looking in for a roster spot in Miami. Despite Williams being a capable depth piece, it's unclear whether another organization would be tempted to part with future draft capital in order to trade for him.

Dolphins' Preston Williams: Staying with Dolphins
Williams is re-signing with Miami on a one-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Williams is a 2019 UDFA who started seven of eight games as a rookie (32-428-3 on 60 targets) before suffering an ACL tear midway through the season. He then started seven of eight games again in 2020 -- albeit with lesser numbers (18-288-4) -- before suffering a season-ending foot injury. In 2021, Williams again played only eight games (three starts), but on account of smaller injuries and a few healthy scratches. After finishing last season with six catches for 71 yards, the soon-to-be 25-year-old wideout figures to compete for a depth role in 2022. Jaylen Waddle, DeVante Parker and recent free-agent signing Cedrick Wilson are Miami's projected starters at wide receiver.
