  • Preston Williams: Works out for Houston

The Texans brought Williams in for a workout Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports. Williams, who was let go last week by the Panthers, is drawing interest from several NFL teams. That the Texans had him in suggests they are not yet settled at wide receiver after bringing in several options at the position during free agency and the draft.

  • Preston Williams: Let go by Carolina

Williams was released by the Panthers on Thursday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports. Williams played Week 18 for the Panthers after spending the entirety of their season on the practice squad, but he saw only two offensive snaps and failed to see a target. The 26-year-old had also previously spent three seasons with the Dolphins. He will now need to seek out a new opportunity.

  • Panthers' Preston Williams: Promoted to active roster Week 18

The Panthers elevated Williams from the practice squad Saturday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. Williams has spent the entirety of the 2022 campaign on Carolina's practice squad after being released as part of the Dolphins' final preseason-roster cuts. The 25-year-old, who logged six catches on 16 targets for 71 yards across eight games last season, should be in line for his Carolina debut heading into Sunday's regular-season finale versus New Orleans. Expect Williams to slot into a reserve role alongside wideouts Rashard Higgins and Andre Roberts.

  • Preston Williams: Joins Panthers' practice squad

Williams was signed to the Panthers' practice squad Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Williams found a new home in Carolina after he was let go by the Dolphins prior to the NFL's 53-man active roster deadline last Tuesday. The 6-foot-5 receiver played in eight games in each of the last three seasons, collecting 56 receptions, 787 yards and seven receiving touchdowns in that span. He'll figure to add depth for Carolina's WR corps and is a candidate for promotion or elevation to the active roster if the team is bothered by injuries throughout the 2022 campaign.

  • Preston Williams: Waived by Miami

The Dolphins waived Williams on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Williams won a starting job as a rookie undrafted free agent in 2019 but never got back on track after major injuries cut short his first two seasons. He's played only 24 games in three years, and the Dolphins reportedly weren't able to trade him. The 25-year-old could nonetheless get a shot with another team at some point.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Could be traded

Williams is a potential trade candidate for the Dolphins and has had limited opportunities during training camp, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports. Williams has been outshone by rookie fourth-round pick Erik Ezukanma and undrafted free agent Braylon Sanders throughout training camp, while the likes of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Cedrick Wilson are entrenched atop the depth chart. Considering the fact that Williams hasn't proven an ability to contribute on special teams, he could be left on the outside looking in for a roster spot in Miami. Despite Williams being a capable depth piece, it's unclear whether another organization would be tempted to part with future draft capital in order to trade for him.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Inactive Sunday

Williams (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Williams missed Week 17 while on the reserve/COVID-19 list and is now a healthy scratch for the season finale. The 24-year-old will finish the 2021 campaign with six catches for 61 yards in eight games and will be a restricted free agent at the start of the offseason.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Limited practice Wednesday

Williams (illness) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. The wide receiver was sidelined for the Dolphins' Week 17 loss to the Titans after testing positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 28, but he was reinstated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday. Williams isn't believed to have suffered a setback in his recovery from the virus; instead, his limited activity Wednesday was more likely conditioning-related. He'll still have a good chance at being available for Sunday's season finale against the Patriots.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Comes off COVID list

The Dolphins reinstated Williams (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday. Williams' placement on the list last Tuesday prevented him from playing in Sunday's 34-3 loss to the Titans, but the third-year wideout should be ready to go heading into Miami's regular-season finale versus the Patriots this weekend. Even before he tested positive for the virus, Williams wasn't consistently active for the Dolphins on game days, so his return to the roster won't assure him of a spot in Miami's receiver rotation. Williams has appeared in eight games to date, recording six receptions for 71 yards on 16 targets.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Hits COVID list

The Dolphins have placed Williams on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Williams reportedly tested positive for the virus, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The news comes one day after he was held without a catch in Miami's Monday Night Football victory over the Saints. HIs return will depend on when he can clear the league's health and safety protocols.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Held without a catch

Williams failed to secure either of his two targets during Thursday's 22-10 win over the Ravens. Williams was at least active Thursday after having missed the Dolphins' previous two matchups for reasons unrelated to injury. However, it was Albert Wilson (4-87-0) and Isaiah Ford (4-84-0) who stepped in as replacements for DeVante Parker (shoulder) and Will Fuller (finger) alongside starter Jaylen Waddle. Coach Brian Flores said that Fuller has made recent recovery progress and could even return for Week 11, so it's possible that Williams' already-thin offensive opportunities could soon further decrease.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Surprise healthy scratch Week 9

Williams (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans. Williams was also a healthy inactive for the Dolphins' Week 8 loss to the Bills, but his absence from the lineup was attributed to a disciplinary matter on that occasion. The third-year wideout was a full participant in practice this week, but he apparently isn't yet back in the good graces of the coaching staff, as he'll be in street clothes once again. With DeVante Parker (shoulder) heading to injured reserve Friday, the Dolphins will be left with receiver Jaylen Waddle, tight end Mike Gesicki and running back Myles Gaskin as their likely top options in the passing game.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Slated to practice this week

Coach Brian Flores said Monday that Williams (coach's decision) will return to practice this week, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. Williams was held out of Sunday's loss to the Bills for disciplinary reasons, but it appears as though he'll be back in action for the team's Week 9 matchup against the Texans on Sunday. The 25-year-old has hauled in five of 12 targets for 67 yards across three appearances in 2021.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Out Sunday

Williams didn't travel with the team and won't play Sunday against Buffalo due to an unspecified reason, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. In addition to Williams, defensive back Sheldrick Redwine was abruptly ruled out from making the trip to Buffalo. With Williams sidelined for the Week 8 matchup, Mack Hollins is likely the next man up to join DeVante Parker (shoulder/hamstring) and Jaylen Waddle in three-receiver sets.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Rough outing vs. Falcons

Williams caught one of four targets for five yard during Sunday's 30-28 loss to Atlanta. Williams returned to action Sunday after having missed time due to a groin injury, but he was inefficient with his targets to say the least. DeVante Parker (shoulder) and Will Fuller (groin) could both return to action soon, and when that happens Williams will stand to move back down to a depth role on offense.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Back in action Sunday

Williams (groin) is active for Sunday's game against the Falcons. Back from a one-game absence and suiting up for just the third time all season, Williams could immediately step back into a key role in Miami's pass-catching group. With DeVante Parker (hamstring) sidelined for a third straight contest, Jaylen Waddle is locked in as the team's top wideout, while tight end Mike Gesicki should also be heavily involved coming off a nine-catch outing Week 6. After those two, Williams could find himself next in line for targets over receivers Mack Hollins, Albert Wilson and Isaiah Ford, tight end Durham Smythe and running back Myles Gaskin.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Questionable for Week 7

The Dolphins list Williams (groin) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. Limited in the first two practices of the week due to the groin issue, Williams apparently didn't do enough of the field Friday to head into the weekend without a designation. That said, the fact that he practiced in at least some capacity each of the last three days suggests that Williams is trending in the right direction for Sunday's game, after his injury prevented him from playing in the Week 6 loss to Jacksonville. DeVante Parker (shoulder/hamstring) is also listed as questionable, and if both he and Williams remain out or limited Sunday, Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki could handle expanded roles as pass catchers.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Limited by groin issue

Williams (groin) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports. Since Williams' groin injury prevented him from playing in last week's loss to the Jaguars in London, he may need to upgrade to full participation in practice Thursday and/or Friday in order to gain clearance for Sunday's game against the Falcons. If he suits up Sunday, Williams likely would step into a starting role at receiver with Will Fuller (finger) on injured reserve and DeVante Parker (shoulder/hamstring) looking iffy for the Week 7 matchup.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Won't play Sunday

Williams (groin) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. With Will Fuller (finger), DeVante Parker (shoulder/hamstring) and Williams all out, Jaylen Waddle is slated to head Miami's depleted Week 6 wideout corps, while Albert Wilson, Mack Hollins, Isaiah Ford and Kirk Merritt are candidates to see added opportunities Sunday in an offense that welcomes back QB Tua Tagovailoa (ribs) from IR.

  • Dolphins' Preston Williams: Questionable with Parker out

Williams (groin) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. If Williams suits up, he could play a substantial role in the Dolphins offense with DeVante Parker (shoulder) already having been ruled out. Williams likely suffered the groin injury in practice this week and consequently was a limited participant both Thursday and Friday. Those relying on Parker in fantasy will need to set their alarms Sunday, as his game will kick off at 9:30 a.m. ET from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in England.
