Cade York: Joins Tennessee's practice squad
York is signing with the Titans' practice squad Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
York was waived by the Browns on Tuesday after the team acquired Dustin Hopkins from the Chargers. The Titans also made a trade for a kicker by acquiring Nick Folk from the Patriots, but York will also be part of the organization on the practice squad.

Cade York: To be cut following trade
The Browns are slated to waive York after having traded for Dustin Hopkins from the Chargers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
York lost Cleveland's kicking competition by virtue of going 4-for-8 on field-goal tries in four preseason appearances, including back-to-back games in which he failed to convert what would have been a game winner. Now, the 2022 fourth-round pick's roster spot has been made expendable by the Browns' trade of a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Chargers in exchange for veteran placekicker Dustin Hopkins. If he clears waivers, York will look to land on a practice squad elsewhere in the league. He could even be a candidate to reunite with Cleveland, considering the draft capital invested in him by the team.

Browns' Cade York: Not named starter
Head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Sunday that he has not committed to York being the Browns' starting kicker for Week 1, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Stefanski reiterated that the discussions have been internal and that York is "really talented." The 2022 fourth-round pick out of LSU has struggled in the preseason, going just 4-for-8 on field goal tries in four games, but he has converted on all eight extra-point attempts. The Browns opted to not bring in another kicker during training camp, but with York's preseason performance, they could change course and bring in some competition ahead of their season opener against the Bengals on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Browns' Cade York: Won't face competition in camp
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Friday that there are no plans to bring in another kicker to compete with York during the preseason, Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports.
York has struggled in exhibition action, hitting just half of his six field-goal attempts. He had two chances at a go-ahead kick late Thursday, missing wide right on a 47-yarder and wide left from five yards closer after the Eagles were flagged for a penalty. Nonetheless, Stefanski indicated confidence in the kicker, saying, "Cade's our kicker. We support him. We have a ton of confidence in him. That's really as simple as that." York was up-and-down as a rookie last season, making just 24 of 32 field-goal attempts but showing a strong leg with a 4-for-7 mark from 50-plus yards.

Browns' Cade York: Misses twice Thursday
York was successful on three of four field-goal attempts in Thursday's 18-18 preseason game against the Eagles.
York, who had missed attempts in each of the first two preseason games, made all three tries during the first half Thursday. But all anyone will remember are the misses near the end of the game that could have sealed a win for the Browns. He went wide right on a 47-yarder -- the third time he went wide right during preseason action -- but a Philadelphia penalty gave him another chance, five yards closer. That one he hooked to the left. Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski stood by the young kicker, telling Zac Jackson of The Athletic that he's not interested in adding another to kicker to compete with York. Nevertheless, the misses are alarming.

Browns' Cade York: Misses second FGA
York missed his lone field-goal attempt in Friday's preseason game against Washington.
York pushed a 46-yarder wide right, the second miss of the preseason with both going astray to the same side. Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said he's not concerned about York, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports, and Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports the Browns have no plans to bring in a kicker to compete with York.

Browns' Cade York: Missed FGA in HoF game
York missed a 49-yard field-goal attempt and made all three extra-point tries in Thursday's preseason win over the Jets.
York was wide right on the Browns' first drive of the game. He's coming off a roller coaster of a rookie season that included three misses inside the 40 and a 75-percent success rate. Prior to the start of training camp, Cleveland special teams coach Bubba Ventrone told Ashley Bostock of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that York is very in-tune with his mechanics, then added the caveat, "almost too in-tune at times," which provides insight into his inconsistency last season. The kicker himself said preseason is the time to focus on technique, but he needs to put that behind him when transitioning to the regular season.

Browns' Cade York: Quiet finish
York did not attempt a field goal and converted both extra-point kicks in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Steelers in Week 18.
York had a quiet finale but finished the season on a high note, making all eight kicks over the final three weeks. It was an uneven season for the rookie, who became a legend in training camp but made just 75 percent (24 of 32) of field-goal attempts. The Browns spent fourth-round draft capital on the LSU product, and while he may not have solidified the kicking game as envisioned, York was the least of the team's issues in 2022. They expect him to be their kicker in 2023.

Browns' Cade York: Makes all kicks
York converted his lone field-goal attempt and all three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 24-10 win over Washington in Week 17.
York gave the Browns a 3-0 first-quarter lead when he buried a 37-yarder. Later in the quarter, he booted a chip shot from 25 yards, but Washington was offside on the play. That prompted head head coach Kevin Stefanski to bring the offense back to go for it on 4th-and goal from the 3-yard line, but Washington stopped them on downs.

Browns' Cade York: Makes both kicks
York converted his lone field-goal attempt and extra-point try in Saturday's 17-10 loss to New Orleans.
York connected from 30 yards but was not given a shot at longer kicks on a brutally cold day with significant wind in Cleveland. Two drives ended on the Saints' side of the field, but attempts would have been from 59 and 60 yards. The Browns have averaged 11 points over the last three games, which suggests York is not a good option for fantasy teams still in the hunt.
