Player Outlook
Rodgers brought the Packers playbook from 2019-21 and a bunch of his old teammates with him to New York, but it's his health and a deep receiving corps that matter the most. Renewed with a fresh start and a coaching staff that will probably let him throw as much as he wants (they let below-average quarterbacks do it in 2022), Rodgers has potential to rebound to over 24 Fantasy points per game like he did in 2020 and 2021. And if it's not enough that Rodgers will have his say in the offense, he'll throw to dynamic second-year receiver Garrett Wilson while working behind a deep offensive line. Rodgers turns 40 in December and his schedule is projected to be very difficult. Those are drawbacks, but that's why Rodgers will be picked closer to the 12th QB off the board rather than the sixth, which merely makes him a spectacular low-risk gamble starting in Round 10 in one-QB leagues.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Hopeful for postseason return

Rodgers is targeting a return to action during the playoffs after undergoing an innovative surgery Wednesday in Los Angeles to repair his torn left Achilles' tendon, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network report. Achilles tears have historically been season-ending injuries, with Rams running back Cam Akers -- who needed just under five months to recover from surgery in 2021 -- having thus far staged the fastest-known recovery from the injury. Rodgers is hopeful to match or beat that five-month recovery timeline, which would fall just under a week before Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. According to the report, Rodgers and the Jets are optimistic that he'll be in store for an accelerated rehab after his surgery included a procedure to place an internal bridge or "speed bridge" into the ruptured Achilles. The speed bridge is designed to better protect the repaired tendon and open the door for a return from surgery in as little as four months, though there are no guarantees, given that the procedure is a relatively novel one. In addition, Rodgers is expected to receive platelet-rich plasma injections to aid in accelerating the healing process. In a best-case scenario, Rodgers could be ready to play by mid-January, but that probably isn't an outcome the Jets are banking on, even if they claim a playoff spot.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Aiming to return in 2024

Rodgers (Achilles) implied Friday during his appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that he intends to return to the field for the Jets in 2024, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. "Give me the doubts...give me the things that you think can should or will happen. All I need is that one little extra percent of inspiration. That's all I need," Rodgers said. Before the Jets acquired him from the Packers in April, Rodgers famously took his time earlier in the offseason to decide whether he wanted to continue his playing career in 2023. Rodgers ultimately opted against retirement in order to play a 19th NFL season, only for it to end after just four snaps Monday, when he suffered a torn Achilles' tendon in his Jets debut in the team's 22-16 overtime win over the Bills. Per Rapoport, Rodgers told McAfee that he experienced "a lot of sadness, a lot of tears" as a result of the significant injury, but he had surgery Wednesday and now appears to be committed to attacking his rehab with the intention of being ready for the 2024 season. Though he'll turn 40 years old in December and will be working his way back from major surgery, Rodgers seems optimistic that he's capable of returning to top form.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Undergoes surgery

Rodgers underwent surgery to repair his torn left Achilles on Wednesday, Kimberley A. Martin of ESPN reports. Rodgers sustained the injury in his Jets debut Monday against Buffalo and will be out for the rest of the season. Dr. Neal ElAttrache completed the surgery, which Rodgers indicated was successful in a post on Instagram. He will now begin a long recovery, with the potential goal of returning for the 2024 season.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Heads to injured reserve

The Jets officially placed Rodgers (Achilles) on injured reserve Tuesday. This comes as no surprise after an MRI confirmed that Rodgers sustained a torn left Achilles in Monday's overtime win against the Bills. He'll miss the rest of his first season with the Jets, handing off the offense to third-year pro Zach Wilson. Considering his age (39), there will be questions about whether Rodgers is willing to go through an arduous rehab to return for a 20th NFL campaign in 2024.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Achilles tear confirmed

The Jets have confirmed via an MRI on Tuesday that Rodgers suffered a complete tear of his left Achilles' tendon during Monday's 22-16 overtime win against the Bills, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Rodgers' torn Achilles brings an abrupt end to his inaugural campaign with the Jets, as he went down on the team's fourth offensive play. His absence severely undermines the fantasy upside of the Jets' skill-position players, most notably Garrett Wilson, as well as Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman, Randall Cobb and Tyler Conklin. Coach Robert Saleh has already said that New York will proceed with Zach Wilson as the starting quarterback for the remainder of the season, but it nonetheless wouldn't be surprising if the team opts to explore bringing in another veteran option. The severity of Rodgers' injury also clouds his future with the Jets, as even with roughly 12 months to rehab before the 2024 season begins, there's no guarantee of a full recovery for the 39-year-old.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Likely has Achilles injury

The Jets believe that Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury during Monday's 22-16 overtime win against the Bills, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Rodgers got injured on the Jets' fourth offensive play and needed assistance reaching the sidelines before being carted to the locker room. X-rays came back negative, but the 39-year-old quarterback was seen wearing a walking boot on his left foot. When combined with the fact coach Robert Saleh called Zach Wilson the team's starting quarterback the rest of the season, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Tuesday's MRI likely will confirm the worst for Rodgers.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Seen in walking boot

Rodgers (ankle) underwent X-rays on Monday and was subsequently seen wearing a walking boot as he made his way to the locker room, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Rodgers was able to limp off the field with an ankle injury before getting carted to the locker room. There is no word on the result of the X-rays, but him being in a walking boot does not bode well for his chances to return. Still, the team is labeling him as questionable to return.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Questionable to return

Rodgers is considered questionable to return to Monday's game against the Bills due to an ankle injury. Rodgers took a sack on the Jets' opening drive and subsequently limped off the field to the medical tent. From there, he was carted to the locker room. There is no word on the severity of the issue other than he is questionable to return. Zach Wilson replaced Rodgers under center.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Heads to medical tent

Rodgers left Monday's season opening game against the Bills early after suffering an undisclosed injury, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports. Rodgers limped off the field after taking a sack and headed to the medical tent. There is no word on the specific injury or the severity at this time. Zach Wilson replaced Rodgers under center.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: QB Bust Alerts

Rodgers can certainly have a magical moment Monday night at home in his first game with the Jets, and I would start him in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues. But I don't love this first matchup against the Bills. Rodgers has faced Buffalo's defense twice under Sean McDermott, and Rodgers scored 17.0 Fantasy points in 2018 and 19.2 Fantasy points in Week 8 last year when Rodgers was in Green Bay. I can see a similar stat line for Rodgers this week, and the Bills should be able to keep him in check.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Debut coming in preseason finale

Rodgers will play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Giants, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. Rodgers will make his long awaited Jets debut next Saturday, with Zach Wilson having started the previous three exhibition matchups. Costello cites an unnamed source, so the team has yet to officially announced Rodgers as next weekend's starters, but coach Robert Saleh has already alluded to the veteran making a cameo on numerous occasions. The 39-year-old signal-caller likely will handle only a handful of snaps versus the Giants in preparation for his first full start, a difficult Week 1 matchup against the division rival Bills.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Could play later in preseason

As Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Browns approaches, Rodgers noted that he "wouldn't mind playing in the preseason," while suggesting that seeing action in the Jets' exhibition finale is a possibility, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. It's safe to assume that Rodgers won't be taking any snaps Thursday, and it doesn't sound like he'll play Aug. 12 against the Panthers either. In any case, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site relays that Zach Wilson is in line to draw the start in the team's preseason opener against Cleveland.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Reworks contract

Rodgers agreed to a reworked deal with the Jets on Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Cimini notes that the quarterback is essentially taking a significant pay cut to help out the Jets. Specifically, $33.715 million is set to be trimmed from the $108.715 million he was still owed on his prior deal with Green Bay. Per Cimini, Rodgers' new contract is a two-year, fully guaranteed $75 million pact. Given the terms of the agreement, the chances that Rodgers sticks around in New York for more than one year appear to have increased.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Healthy for camp

Rodgers (calf) participated in 11-on-11 drills Thursday, Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports reports. A calf injury limited him in May, but Rodgers was more active during June practices and now is participating at the start of training camp. WR Mecole Hardman (groin) and OT Mekhi Becton (knee) also are healthy and participating, while RB Breece Hall (knee), WR Randall Cobb (ankle) and TE C.J. Uzomah (leg) start camp on the PUP list. Rodgers has a nice group of targets even with those three sidelined, throwing to Hardman, TE Tyler Conklin and WRs Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and Corey Davis.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: More involved to end OTAs

Rodgers (calf) participated in the red-zone and two-minute portions of Friday's 11-on-11 session, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Rodgers, who strained his calf at the beginning of OTAs, had been cleared for everything but 11-on-11 drills earlier in the week. He sat out the beginning of full-team drills Friday, allowing Zach Wilson to take the reins, but the veteran quarterback worked his way into the mix during the final parts of the session and should be fully healthy for training camp. Rodgers attended all of the Jets OTAs, but he's now heading back to California and is planning to invite the Jets' receivers to the West Coast for some offseason workouts, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Won't participate in full drills

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Rodgers (calf) won't participate in 11-on-11 drills Tuesday, but the veteran quarterback is cleared to do everything else, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. The Jets continue to monitor a minor calf strain that Rodgers suffered at the beginning of OTAs, but there hasn't been any indication it'll impact the quarterback's availability for training camp. Don't be surprised if Rodgers takes it easy for the remainder of New York's OTAs.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Dealing with ankle injury

Rodgers suffered an apparent ankle injury at Tuesday's OTA session and didn't participate in team drills, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports. Rodgers appeared to tweak his ankle in warmups prior to practice and was seen getting checked by the training staff. He ended up sitting out the rest of the day but did remain on the sideline, suggesting his absence might have been more precautionary than anything else. It'll be interesting to see if Rodgers is back out there later this week. Either way, this doesn't have the sound of a long-term issue.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Takes part in optional workout

Rodgers participated in an optional workout with the Jets on Thursday, one day after the deal sending him from Green Bay to New York became official. Under the terms of the trade, the Jets received Rodgers, a first-round pick (No. 15 overall) and a fifth-round pick (No. 170) in this week's draft in exchange for selections No. 13 (Round 1), No. 42 (Round 2) and No. 207 (Round 6), plus a conditional second-rounder in 2024 that can become a first-rounder if the QB logs 65 percent of New York's offensive snaps this season. Rodgers, who re-worked his contract in order to help facilitate the deal, per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, noted in his introductory press conference Wednesday that he's planning to attend most of his new team's voluntary workouts, and the veteran signal-caller quickly made his first on-field appearance with the Jets on Thursday. Though Rodgers hasn't specifically committed to playing beyond the 2023 campaign, indicating that he's focused on the present, comments he has made suggest that he's open to the idea. "They definitely gave up some picks for me to be here," the 39-year-old acknowledged, "so this isn't like one-and-done in my mind."

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Officially traded to Jets for picks

The Jets acquired Rodgers from the Packers in exchange for a package of draft picks Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Along with Rodgers, the Jets are acquiring the No. 15 overall pick in Thursday's NFL Draft and a 2023 fifth-rounder, at No. 170 overall. Headed to Green Bay are the 13th overall pick Thursday night, the No. 42 overall selection on Friday and a sixth-rounder at No. 207 on Saturday. The Packers also are receiving a 2024 second-rounder that will become a first-round pick if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the offensive snaps this upcoming season. It's a pretty sizable haul, considering the team had little leverage other than just keeping Rodgers around. The book now can be closed on this drama, with Rodgers quarterbacking a Jets offense that features Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman as his top three wideouts while Corey Davis is still viewed as a likely release candidate. Rodgers' fantasy arrow trended downward last season, but perhaps reuniting with old-turned-new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will help him bounce back to his MVP-like numbers from 2020 and 2021.
