  • Justin Ellis: Let go by Atlanta

    Ellis was released by the Falcons on Saturday, Terrin Waack of the team's official site reports. Ellis agreed to terms with Atlanta on July 28 before being released less than one month later. The nine-year veteran has spent time with Oakland, Baltimore and New York throughout his career. In those nine years, Ellis appeared in 117 games and recorded 182 tackles, eight tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He'll look for a new team ahead of the coming season.

    The Falcons are planning to sign Ellis on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Per Rapoport, Ellis impressed during a workout Friday and will get a chance to compete for a roster spot. The Falcons may be without Calais Campbell (undisclosed) for a large portion of the preseason, so Ellis, who's joining his third team in as many years, should have plenty of opportunities to showcase his skills.

    The Ravens signed Ellis to the 53-man roster Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Ellis injured his knee during the preseason while playing for the Raiders, and he was eventually released from IR. The 28-year-old is healthy now, and he'll provide depth since Daylon Mack (knee) was placed on IR and Michael Pierce (ankle) is considered day-to-day. Nose tackle Domata Peko, who is six years older than Ellis, was also signed for the same purpose.

    Ellis (knee) was released off injured reserve by the Raiders on Tuesday, Myles Simmons of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. Ellis went down with the knee injury in late August and ended up on the shelf shortly thereafter. The 28-year-old played only six games in 2018 due to a foot injury, but he's now free to sign elsewhere once healthy.

  • Raiders' Justin Ellis: Dealing with strained ligaments in foot

    Ellis sustained strained ligaments in his foot in Monday's season-opening loss to the Rams, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The Raiders are labeling Ellis as week-to-week with the injury, making it unlikely he'll be ready to play Sunday in Denver. After tallying 48 stops in 16 games in 2017, Ellis was shut out of the tackle column across 52 snaps in the Week 1 loss before departing. In addition to Ellis, fellow defensive tackles P.J. Hall (ankle) and Brian Price (hamstring) are also nursing injuries, which could prompt the Raiders to sign Johnathan Hankins to shore up the line, according to Rapoport.

  • Raiders' Justin Ellis: Agrees to extension

    Ellis and the Raiders have reached agreement on a three-year contract for more than $15 million, including $6 million guaranteed, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. A 2014 fourth-round selection, Ellis only has one-half of a sack in 60 NFL games, but he's made 41 starts and piled up 112 tackles, including a career-best 48 last season. He'll likely continue in his role as Oakland's starting nose tackle, exiting the field for most passing downs.
