  • Cody Core: Heads to free agency

Miami released Core (undisclosed) with a non-football injury designation Tuesday. The contract Core signed with the Dolphins back in January didn't last even six months, and he'll now be forced to look for another opportunity elsewhere. He hasn't seen game action since 2019, so he's very unlikely to be fantasy-relevant this season regardless of where he might end up.

  • Dolphins' Cody Core: Signs new contract with Dolphins

The Dolphins signed Core to a reserve/future contract Tuesday. The wide receiver will be back in Miami in 2022 after spending the latter part of the 2021 season on the team's practice squad. Core last appeared in the NFL in 2019, playing in 16 games with the Giants while mostly operating as a special-teams option.

  • Cody Core: Signs with Miami's practice squad

The Dolphins signed Core to their practice squad Monday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports. Core tried out with the 49ers a few weeks ago and now he'll have the chance to be on a practice roster, though it remains to be seen if he'll have the opportunity to play an NFL snap before the current season comes to a close. He hasn't played in the league since 2019, when he registered three catches for 28 yards while playing 16 games for the Giants.

  • Cody Core: Gets look in San Fran

Core (Achilles) tried out with the 49ers on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports. Core tore his Achilles in August of 2020, and it appears he's back to full health. The 27-year-old wideout didn't offer much offensive upside through his first four NFL seasons before the injury, so fantasy managers don't need to keep tabs on him moving forward.

  • Cody Core: Cap casualty

The Giants cut Core (Achilles) on Monday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports. Core's departure will clear up $2 million in cap space for New York next season. The special-teams ace and depth wideout suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during practice last August, from which he's still recovering as the move was designated as a failed physical, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.

  • Giants' Cody Core: Placed on IR

The Giants placed Core (Achilles) on injured reserve Wednesday. Core's move to IR comes as no surprise after reports surfaced earlier in the day indicating that he suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during Tuesday's practice. With surgery likely on tap for Core, he'll presumably miss the entire 2020 season while rehabbing the injury. He'll remain under contract with the Giants through 2021 after inking a two-year deal with the club back in March.

  • Giants' Cody Core: Likely out for season

Core is believed to have suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during Tuesday's practice, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. After signing a two-year contract this offseason, Core was expected to be a factor on the Giants' special-teams units while also offering depth at wide receiver. His anticipated absence gives Corey Coleman a better shot at claiming the No. 4 receiver job in New York.

  • Giants' Cody Core: Back in Big Apple

The Giants and Core agreed to terms on a contract Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. The special teams ace suited up for 283 snaps last year, hauling in just three passes for 28 yards across 16 games. Core will return to an organization with a new head coach but the same special-teams coach, meaning he'll likely fill a role with limited offensive utility once again.

  • Giants' Cody Core: Just three catches in 2019

Core secured three of five targets for 28 yards across 16 contests in 2019. Core did most of his damage on special teams in 2019, per usual. Coming off the final year of his rookie contract, it remains to be seen if the Giants will opt to bring Core back for 2020.

  • Giants' Cody Core: Three catches in Week 2

Core caught three of five targets for 28 yards in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Bills. The former Bengals castoff is getting a chance to play meaningful snaps for Big Blue with Sterling Shepard (concussion) and Golden Tate (suspension) unavailable. Tate will sit out two more games while Shepard may not be ready in time to take on Tampa Bay in Week 3, so Core could continue to factor into New York's low-octane passing offense.

  • Cody Core: Claimed by Giants

Core was claimed by the Giants on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Core finds himself on the Giants' active roster after being waived by the Bengals on Saturday. In limited action for the Bengals in 2018 he recorded 13 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown across 13 games. With the Giants he'll figure to operate as a depth receiver and special teams player.

  • Cody Core: Let go by Cincinnati

Core was cut by the Bengals on Saturday, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports. The fact that Core was let go comes as a bit of a surprise, considering he accumulated 30 catches for 360 yards and one touchdown over the past three seasons and had familiarity with the team. Core could find himself on another roster elsewhere before too long, especially when you consider his impact on special teams (189 snaps last season).

  • Bengals' Cody Core: Big performance in preseason finale

Core hauled in five of his 10 targets for 75 yards in the team's preseason finale against the Colts on Thursday. Core was only overshadowed by Ventell Bryant, as he finished second on the team in yards, targets and receptions. The highlight of his performance came at the end of the first quarter when he hauled in a 39-yard pass from Jake Dolegala. Though he was originally expected to vie for a starting role after A.J. Green (ankle) went down early in training camp, he has been surpassed on the depth chart by Damion Willis and is now a potential cut as the team trims the roster.

  • Bengals' Cody Core: Hauls in two passes

Core caught two passes for 30 yards in the Bengals' second preseason game against the Redskins on Thursday. Core was targeted only twice, though he did manage to convert both for receptions. He wasn't targeted by starter Andy Dalton, with his production instead coming in combination with rookie quarterback Ryan Finley. Core had been working with the first team immediately after A.J. Green (ankle) was sidelined, though Josh Malone and Auden Tate were both on the field with the first team in Thursday's contest. Core was used heavily as a special teams contributor in 2018, and it appears that will be his primary role once again, assuming he remains on the roster.

  • Bengals' Cody Core: Working as No. 2 receiver

Core is working as the No. 2 receiver while A.J. Green (ankle) and John Ross (hamstring) recover from injuries, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official website reports. Ross is expected to miss at least a couple weeks of practice, and Green appears no better than questionable for Week 1. The Bengals badly need someone to step up alongside Tyler Boyd, who was their only reliable pass catcher after Green suffered a season-ending toe injury last year. A 2016 sixth-round pick, Core has caught 30 of 59 targets for 360 yards (6.1 YPT) and one touchdown in 35 career games, playing nearly as many snaps on special teams (465) as on offense (636). He hasn't provided much cause for optimism, but the opportunities at least will be there this summer.

  • Bengals' Cody Core: Leaves with left elbow injury

Core left Sunday's Week 17 game against the Steelers with what appeared to be a dislocated left elbow. It looked as if the Bengals' medical staff had to pop Core's elbow back into place right on the field and place the left arm in an air cast even before he left for the locker room. The Bengals have run out of healthy receivers to finish the season. They'll finish out this game with John Ross, Alex Erickson, Auden Tate and Josh Malone.

  • Bengals' Cody Core: Two catches in loss to Browns

Core caught two of three targets, accumulating a season-high 36 receiving yards during Sunday's 26-18 loss to Cleveland. The third-year receiver out of Ole Miss has garnered multiple targets in seven straight games, but he's posted a convincingly inefficient catch rate of 50 percent during that span (with fewer than 20 receiving YPG). His involvement has vamped up substantially of late, playing 36.8 offensive snaps per game over Cincinnati's past five contests, compared to 11.4 snaps per game between Week 5 and 10. In the regular season finale Sunday afternoon, Core will face a Steelers defense that allowed 229 receiving yards and one touchdown to opposing wideouts in its Week 16 matchup against New Orleans.

  • Bengals' Cody Core: Starting for injured Boyd

Core will enter the starting lineup Sunday against the Browns, replacing the injured Tyler Boyd (knee), Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Already missing top wideout A.J. Green (foot) and top tight end Tyler Eifert (ankle) for many weeks now, the putrid Cincinnati passing attack will take an even greater hit with Boyd joining the wounded ranks. Core and John Ross will thus form the Bengals' starting receiver duo, though both represent shaky fantasy plays in Week 16 lineups. Expect the Bengals to lean heavily on lead running back Joe Mixon early and often unless the game script forces the team to enter catch-up mode and throw more frequently.

  • Bengals' Cody Core: Just one catch

Core was held to one catch for 10 yards on four targets in Sunday's win over the Raiders. Even with A.J. Green (toe) on injured reserve and Tyler Boyd (knee) missing half of the game, Core was not a core component of the offense, though in fairness the Bengals were so successful in running the ball, so they had fewer targets to spread around.

  • Bengals' Cody Core: First career touchdown

Core had just one catch Sunday against the Broncos, but it was good for 30 yards and his first NFL touchdown. Core's snap count has been steadily climbing this season. On Sunday, he logged a season-high 35 snaps and was targeted four times on those snaps. With A.J. Green (foot) out for the season, it appears he'll get an extended look over the last four games.
