  • Darwin Thompson: Cut by Las Vegas

The Raiders waived Thompson on Sunday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Thompson joined the Raiders on Aug. 12 after being let go by the Seahawks in April. He registered six carries for 28 yards in two preseason games. The 2019 sixth-round pick out of Utah State will look for opportunities elsewhere once he clears waivers.

  • Raiders' Darwin Thompson: Finds work in Las Vegas

Thompson signed with the Raiders on Saturday. Thompson was let go by Seattle ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft and has been a free agent since. However, the 2019 sixth-round pick becomes the second running back signed by the Raiders this week, as they continue to deal with the absence of Josh Jacobs, who hasn't reported to training camp amid a contract dispute with Las Vegas. Thompson totaled 64 rushing attempts for 225 yards and two scores across his first two NFL seasons (2019 and 2020) with Kansas City but hasn't appeared in a regular-season game since.

  • Darwin Thompson: Let go by Seattle

Seattle waived Thompson on Monday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. Thompson was one of numerous cuts Monday, as the Seahawks cut down their roster ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft. The practice-squad running back impressed during limited preseason action last year and was signed to a reserve/future contract in January, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him land another job this spring or summer.

  • Seahawks' Darwin Thompson: Remains in Seattle

Seattle signed Thompson to a reserve/future contract Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Thompson earned a practice-squad contract after failing to make the Seahawks' initial 53-man roster, but he didn't make any appearances during the 2022 campaign. The Utah State product impressed during limited preseason action, and with his new contract, he'll have a chance to build off what he did with Seattle this year throughout the upcoming offseason.

  • Darwin Thompson: Returns to Seattle

The Seahawks signed Thompson to their practice squad Wednesday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. Thompson was solid during limited preseason action but didn't make the Seahawks' initial 53-man roster. However, he'll get a chance to work his way back to NFL game action via the practice squad.

  • Darwin Thompson: Exits Seattle

Thompson was waived by the Seahawks on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Thompson was unsurprisingly unable to make it through the Seahawks final roster cuts. He will presumably be a candidate to land on the team's practice squad assuming he ultimately goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Seahawks' Darwin Thompson: Scores in preseason loss

Thompson rushed six times for 34 yards and a touchdown and caught his lone target for seven yards in Thursday's 27-11 preseason loss to the Bears. Thompson didn't play until the third quarter, as he's still firmly behind Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas in the fight for a roster spot. Nevertheless, Thompson was quite effective with his reps, showing a good ability to break tackles en route to the Seahawks' only touchdown of the evening. Thompson may be able to sneak onto the 53-man roster if Kenneth Walker (hernia) ends up missing time to start the regular season.

  • Seahawks' Darwin Thompson: Totals 17 yards Saturday

Thompson rushed three times for 15 yards and caught his lone target for two yards in Saturday's 32-25 preseason loss to the Steelers. He also returned one kickoff for 14 yards. Thompson didn't play on offense until the fourth quarter, as Kenneth Walker, Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas all took the field before him. He wasn't effective in his limited reps. The 2019 sixth-round pick is on the roster bubble.

  • Darwin Thompson: Reverts to practice squad

Thompson reverted to the Chiefs' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Thompson was elevated from the practice squad prior to Sunday's wild-card round win over the Steelers. However, after Darrel Williams (toe) was cleared to take the field, Thompson was inactive for the contest. So long as no further injuries pop up in the Chiefs' backfield, Thompson figures to remain on the practice squad for the rest of the postseason.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Healthy scratch Sunday

Thompson (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's wild-card matchup against the Steelers, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports. Thompson was elevated from Kansas City's practice squad Saturday, but he won't suit up for the playoff opener since Darrel Williams (toe) is available. Derrick Gore and Jerick McKinnon will serve as the primary backup options behind Williams.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Elevated by Kansas City

The Chiefs elevated Thompson to their active roster Saturday, Field Yates of ESPN reports. Thompson joined Kansas City's practice squad Friday after spending the regular season on the Buccaneers' practice squad. He'll now join the Chiefs' active roster ahead of Sunday's wild-card matchup against Pittsburgh. The 24-year-old will provide additional depth in the backfield because Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) has been ruled out and Darrel Williams (toe) is questionable.

  • Darwin Thompson: Lands on practice squad

Thompson signed with the Chiefs' practice squad Friday, per the NFL's official transactions log. Thompson was cut from the Buccaneers' practice squad Thursday. He now returns to the franchise that selected him in the sixth round of the 2019 draft. With Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) out and Darrel Williams (toe) questionable, there is small chance Thompson could suit up Sunday against the Steelers.

  • Darwin Thompson: Cut from practice squad

Thompson has been released from the Buccaneers' practice squad. The move frees up a spot for the team's addition of wideout John Brown to the practice squad. Thompson had given the Bucs some added running back depth down the stretch, but he's the odd man out now that Leonard Fournette (hamstring) and Giovani Bernard (hip) appear to be nearing a return to action ahead of Tampa Bay's postseason run.

  • Darwin Thompson: Signs to Bucs' practice squad

Thompson signed with the Buccaneers' practice squad Thursday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. Thompson is a relatively high-profile signing by practice squad standards, considering he logged 26 games of regular-season action with the Chiefs over the last two campaigns, even drawing one start over that span. Thompson lost out on a roster spot this summer due to Kansas City's deep backfield, but the Utah State product will now garner a closer look from the defending champions.

  • Darwin Thompson: Time with Chiefs at an end

Kansas City waived Thompson on Monday, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports. Thompson failed to reach the 4.0 YPC mark in either of his two seasons with the Chiefs, across which span he logged a total of 26 regular-season appearances. With Jerick McKinnon and Darrel Williams (head) around to provide depth behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle), and Derrick Gore having put together a solid preseason, Thompson's spot on the roster was rendered superfluous. The third-year pro will look for another opportunity elsewhere in the league.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Gets six touches

Thompson rushed three times for 11 yards and caught all three of his targets for 14 yards in Friday night's 28-25 preseason win over the Vikings. Thompson entered the game behind Jerick McKinnon, who finished with five touches for 27 yards. Behind him, though, Derrick Gore ripped off 106 yards on his 11 touches, including a 56-yard touchdown catch. With that added twist to finish the preseason, it'll be very interesting to see who the Chiefs name their third tailback prior to Week 1's opener against the Browns.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Back from COVID list

Thompson (undisclosed) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports. Thompson landed on the COVID list last week but cleared the necessary protocols and returned to practice Wednesday. The 24-year-old is set to fill a depth role in Kansas City's backfield behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Lands on COVID list

The Chiefs placed Thompson on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reports. Thompson hasn't necessarily tested positive for the virus, but he'll need to clear the NFL's health and safety protocols before rejoining the team. The 24-year-old is expected to fill a depth role in the backfield for Kansas City behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon this season.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Big game in expanded role

Thompson rushed 14 times for 45 yards and a touchdown and caught all seven of his targets for 65 yards and another score in Sunday's 38-21 loss to the Chargers. Thompson made the most of his opportunity to start with both Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) and Le'Veon Bell (knee) not featuring Sunday. The second-year pro notched his first touchdown of the campaign with a one-yard rush during the second quarter, then hauled in an eight-yard pass to score in the fourth. Overall, Thompson led Kansas City in both rushing and receiving, showing good versatility to perhaps inspire the team's confidence should the Chiefs be short-handed in the backfield at any point during the playoffs.

  • Chiefs' Darwin Thompson: Expected to see expanded workload

Though Le'Veon Bell (knee) is expected to suit up Sunday against the Chargers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network suggests that Thompson "is slated to get the bulk" of Kansas City's carries. The report suggests that if Bell does play Sunday, "it'll be very little." With Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) already ruled out and Bell seemingly on track to be limited, it looks like Thompson will see expanded opportunities in Week 17, with Kansas City having clinched the AFC's No. 1 playoff seed. Darrel Williams is also on hand, but look for Thompson -- who's been used sparingly of late -- to get his share of work in Sunday's 4:25 ET contest, with the team expected to rest or limit multiple key players.
