  • Chiefs' Mecole Hardman: Back at practice

Hardman (heel) returned to a limited practice Thursday.

Hardman sat out Wednesday's session, but his return to practice Thursday bodes well for his chances of playing Sunday against the Buccaneers. Friday's injury report will determine whether or not the wideout heads into the weekend with an injury designation or fully cleared for Week 4 action.

  • Chiefs' Ronald Jones: Misses practice again

Jones (illness) did not practice Thursday, Herbie Teope reports.

Jones missed his second practice in a row. Considering he is dealing with an illness, and not an injury, his inactivity may have less of an impact on his status for Sunday. More importantly, Jones is firmly behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon on the running back depth chart, and he hasn't been active for any of the first three regular-season games.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Spectator for practice Thursday

Valdes-Scantling (abdomen) worked off to the side at Thursday's practice and is set to go down as a non-participant on the Chiefs' second injury report of Week 4, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.

The abdominal injury was enough to render Valdes-Scantling a limited participant in the Chiefs' first practice session Wednesday, but the wideout doesn't look like he'll mix into any drills Thursday. Though he was at least in attendance for practice, Valdes-Scantling wasn't sporting a helmet and was holding his own individual workout with a trainer. The Chiefs will see if he's able to take a step forward in his activity Friday before deciding whether he'll carry a designation into Sunday's game at Tampa Bay.

  • Chiefs' Harrison Butker: Status in question for Week 4

Butker (ankle) won't practice Thursday, and special teams coordinator Dave Toub suggested the kicker's status for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers could "come down right to the end" of the week, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.

After sitting out both of the Chiefs' past two games with a sprained left ankle, Butker practiced Wednesday in a limited fashion, but he was held out Thursday while still contending with some soreness. The Chiefs will see if Butker is able to get back on the practice field in some capacity Friday before giving him a designation for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. If Butker is forced to miss another game, Matthew Wright would likely be elevated from the practice squad to handle kicking duties for Kansas City in Week 4.

  • Chiefs' Marquez Valdes-Scantling: Listed as limited Wednesday

Valdes-Scantling was a limited participant at practice Wednesday due to an abdominal issue.

In Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Colts, Valdes-Scantling was on the field for a team-high 49 snaps among Kansas City's wideouts. He finished with four catches on seven targets for 48 yards in the contest, but now that Valdes-Scantling is on the Chiefs' injury report, his status is worth monitoring ahead of this weekend's game against the Buccaneers.

  • Chiefs' Harrison Butker: Practicing Wednesday

Butker (ankle) is set to practice Wednesday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Butker was unable to practice last week before missing his second straight game, but his return to work Wednesday offers encouragement that he'll be able to kick this weekend against the Buccaneers in the absence of any setbacks. If Butker isn't ready to play Week 4, Matthew Wright is a candidate to be elevated from Kansas City's practice squad to handle kicking duties.

  • Chiefs' Ronald Jones: Won't practice Wednesday

Jones (illness) will not practice Wednesday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Jones has been a healthy scratch behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon through three weeks, and missing practice time certainly doesn't help matters for him. There's no good reason to believe he'll play at Tampa Bay on Sunday.

  • Chiefs' Mecole Hardman: No practice Wednesday

Hardman (heel) won't practice Wednesday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Hardman managed the heel issue heading into last week's loss to the Colts, but he didn't carry a designation into the game and played 43 of the Chiefs' 63 snaps on offense. The wideout's potential return to practice Thursday would likely indicate that his absence from Wednesday's session was maintenance-related.

  • Chiefs' L'Jarius Sneed: Fills stat sheet

Sneed recorded seven tackles (five solo), a sack, a forced fumble and a recovery in the Chiefs' 20-17 loss to the Colts on Sunday.

Sneed's forced fumble was recovered by the Colts, however his fumble recovery came off a sack by Carlos Dunlap in Colts territory. The play helped lead to a 21-yard touchdown drive that gave the Chiefs a 14-10 lead at the half. Sneed's sack was also his second of 2022, and he's already tied his career high of two on the young season. The third-year pro will look to keep producing in Week 4 against the Buccaneers.
