Jaroslav Halak: Dropped from tryout
Halak was released from his tryout by the Hurricanes on Monday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Halak was brought in after Frederik Andersen (illness) was ruled out indefinitely but won't be sticking around long term. Antti Raanta figures to remain the No. 1 option for the Canes while Pyotr Kochetkov serves as the backup. For his part, Halak could be facing the end of his playing career unless he wants to play overseas.

Hurricanes' Jaroslav Halak: Heading to Raleigh
Carolina announced Monday that Halak will join the team as a free agent tryout.
Halak could end up signing a standard contract with the Hurricanes soon because Frederik Andersen (undisclosed) is undergoing evaluations for a medical issue. If Halak officially joins the roster, he will compete with Antti Raanta for playing time. The 38-year-old Halak posted a 10-9-5 record with a 2.72 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 25 appearances for the Rangers last season.

Halak is expected to guard the home crease against Toronto on Thursday, per Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today.
Halak surrendered three goals in each of his previous three starts. Through 24 contests this season, he's posted a 10-8-5 record, 2.71 GAA and .904 save percentage. Toronto is tied for the eighth ranked offense with 3.40 goals per game in 2022-23.

Halak made 18 saves in a 3-2 loss to the Maple Leafs on Thursday.
Timothy Liljegren scored early in the third to tie the game 1-1 after his shot hit off Niko Mikkola's stick and fluttered through Halak's five-hole. William Nylander roofed a shot from in tight about five minutes later to knot things 2-2. And Noel Acciari jammed in his own rebound five minutes later to push the Leafs ahead to stay. Halak is 0-2-1 in his last three games and will likely spend the Rangers' postseason run on the end of the bench.

Halak made 31 saves in a 4-3 win over the Panthers on Saturday.
He allowed two in the first period before settling down. Aleksander Barkov scored on a jam play and Ryan Lomberg stepped into a back pass and blasted it inside the far post. Halak then held the kitties at bay until Barkov swept the puck past his right pad in the third after a failed wraparound. He has two straight wins, but may not see many starts until the battle for home ice between the Rangers and Devils is settled. The Rangers sit four points behind their foe.
