  • Lightning's Steven Stamkos: Extension talks not happening

Stamkos is "disappointed" that he hasn't heard from the Lightning about a contract extension, reports " Stammer made it clear at the end of last season that he wanted something done before camp started, and he's clearly disappointed that hasn't happened. "I guess that was something that I didn't see coming but it is what it is," said the 16-year career Bolt. Stamkos has one year left on an eight-year, $68 million deal that has a team-friendly cap hit of $8.5 million. He may be turning 34 in February, but he's still worth every penny. Stamkos is coming off a 34-goal, 84-point season and is the best player to ever don a jersey in Tampa Bay. Both sides want to get something done, but this may take some time. General manager Julien Brisebois says that while he and Stamkos share the common goal of winning another Cup, Brisebois "need(s) to see how this season plays out before I can make those decisions."

Stamkos scored on a snap shot from low in the left circle late in the second period; it pulled the Bolts to within one goal (2-1). He then got his second on a one-timer from the same circle on the power play late in the third to push the Bolts up 3-2. This will be his eighth 30-goal season.

  • Lightning's Steven Stamkos: No points in game after benching

Stamkos had five hits and no shots in 17:25 of ice time in Sunday's 6-0 loss to Carolina. Coach Jon Cooper had benched Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point for the third period of Saturday's loss to Buffalo because they weren't performing well enough to give the team the best chance to win. They were back in action Sunday, but the game was a parade to the penalty box and the Bolts' offense couldn't get rolling. Stamkos and the Bolts are on a five-game losing streak heading into a four-game week, with contests against the Flyers, Knights, Hawks and Jets.

  • Lightning's Steven Stamkos: Second multi-point game in last 18

Stamkos scored a goal and added an assist in a 5-4 overtime loss to Pittsburgh on Thursday. He knotted the game 3-3 with a wrist shot from the left circle just 38 seconds into the third period. Stamkos has put up points in two straight games (one goal, two assists) after delivering just four points in his previous 11 games. Stammer is still a solid fantasy producer, but he has only two multi-point games over his last 18 outings (six goals, six assists), and just seven points (three goals, four assists) in his last 13 games. We don't know if he's simply preserving energy for the postseason or if there's an underlying injury that's suppressing his production, or just bad luck. It bears watching, though, especially if you're relying on his offense as you head into the fantasy playoffs.

  • Lightning's Steven Stamkos: Burns and gets burned in same game

Stamkos scored a goal and added an assist in a 6-5 overtime loss to Buffalo on Thursday. Stammer opened the scoring early in the first period when he skated in on a rush and shot over Eric Comrie's left shoulder from the right circle. But he was also involved in the overtime winner and not for the good. The Lightning were on the power play when a Sabres' defender pressured Stamkos in the defensive zone, forced a turnover and then ripped it home to seal the win. Stammer has 60 points in 57 games this season but this was his first multi-point effort since Jan. 18. That's a span of 14 games (five goals, four assists). We're not sure if this slow down is nothing or if it's a sign of a tired captain. It bears monitoring as the star closes in on his 1,000th game, which barring injury should come before season's end.

  • Lightning's Steven Stamkos: Sends assist in shootout win

Stamkos logged an assist, three shots on goal and two hits in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Avalanche. Stamkos set up Anthony Cirelli's game-tying goal early in the third period. In addition to the helper, Stamkos also had the lone shootout tally to lift the Lightning to the win. The 33-year-old hadn't gotten on the scoresheet in February after posting seven goals and nine assists over 13 games in January, so it's good to see him snap his slump. Stamkos has 24 goals, 58 points, 182 shots on net, 62 hits, 35 blocked shots, 28 PIM and a plus-8 rating through 53 outings overall.
