  • Canadiens' David Savard: Out 6-to-8 weeks with broken hand

The Canadiens announced Tuesday that Savard will miss 6-to-8 weeks with a broken left hand. Savard is set for a long-term absence after sustaining the injury Monday versus the Sabres. The 33-year-old blueliner will likely be out until early December at the earliest. Gustav Lindstrom was called up to take Savard's roster spot earlier Tuesday, though Kaiden Guhle (upper body) may take over that position once he shakes off his injury.

  • Canadiens' David Savard: Out indefinitely

Savard is out indefinitely because of an upper-body injury. He was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, per the NHL media site. Savard was credited with five blocked shots in Monday's 3-1 win over Buffalo. According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, Savard's hand was struck in the contest, and the Montreal blueliner could be out for weeks if he sustained a fracture. Gustav Lindstrom was called up from AHL Laval on Tuesday to replace Savard in the lineup.

  • Canadiens' David Savard: Sacrifices body in Monday's victory

Savard posted an assist with five blocked shots in Monday's 3-1 win over the Sabres. Savard ended up with a plus-1 rating and one shot on goal, but the big news was his game-high five blocked shots. In fact, the rest of his team combined had 12 total blocks, so the rearguard was really out there sacrificing for his team. The Canadiens are back on the ice at Bell Centre on Tuesday against the Devils.

  • Canadiens' David Savard: Logs assist in loss

Savard logged an assist, two shots on goal, one blocked shot and three hits over 18:49 of ice time in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Wild. Savard was the primary helper late in the third period, dishing a pretty feed to Alex Newhook for Montreal's second goal. It was Savard's first point of the season. He's not known for his offense and needs to deliver value in the blocked shot and hit categories, although his 61 hits over 62 games last season was a serious reduction from the previous campaign. Tuesday's three checks were his first of the season.

  • Canadiens' David Savard: Officially shut down

Savard (knee) won't play again this season. Savard sustained the injury Tuesday versus the Flyers, and with the Canadiens near the bottom of the standings, there's no point in rushing him back. He ends 2022-23 with 20 points, 176 blocked shots, 61 hits and a minus-14 rating in 62 appearances.

  • Canadiens' David Savard: Game-time decision Thursday

Savard (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision according to coach Martin St. Louis. Savard has three goals, 20 points and 176 blocked shots this season. He has been a top-pairing defenseman for a floundering team but sees little time --averaging nine seconds per game -- on the power play.

  • Canadiens' David Savard: Garners assist in win

Savard logged an assist, two shots on goal, one hit and one blocked shot over 24:48 of ice time in Monday's 4-3 shootout win over Buffalo. Savard assisted on Alex Belzile's second-period tally for his fourth helper in his last eight outings. With 20 points in 60 contests, Savard is having a typical campaign. The one thing that jumps out is a reduction in hits. Savard habitually delivers multiple hits per game -- normally in triple digits for a full year -- but the 32-year-old has just 60 this season.

  • Canadiens' David Savard: Records assist in Thursday's loss

Savard posted an assist, two PIM, two hits and three blocked shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Kings. Savard has been a solid contributor with eight points over his last 24 contests. The 32-year-old defenseman continues to log top-four minutes as a more defensive presence, but he's chipping in just enough offense to be interesting in deep fantasy formats. For the season, Savard's at 16 points, 46 shots on net, 140 blocked shots, 37 hits, 38 PIM and a minus-11 rating through 48 outings.

  • Canadiens' David Savard: Officially on IR

Savard (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, per CapFriendly. Savard is not expected to return until after the holiday break, so this move frees up a roster spot for the Canadiens. • Canadiens' David Savard: Will miss 2-3 weeks

Savard will be sidelined for 2-3 weeks with an upper-body injury. Given the expected length of Savard's absence, it wouldn't be surprising to see him land on injured reserve in the coming days. Look for another update on the 32-year-old defender, who's collected eight points through 24 games this season, to surface once he's nearing a return to the lineup.
