  • Maple Leafs' Joel Edmundson: Posts rare helper in loss

Edmundson recorded an assist in Game 3 against the Bruins on Wednesday in a 4-2 home loss. Edmundson rushed toward the attacking zone after John Tavares sent a crisp pass his way from center ice, and it led to a Matthew Knies goal courtesy of a Mitch Marner helper. Still, since the Leafs are down 2-1 to Boston in the Conference Quarterfinals and are averaging just 2.00 goals per contest, this team needs to pick up the pace offensively. Edmundson isn't expected to do much in that area as a third-pairing defenseman without a role on the power play.

Edmundson is projected to start the postseason on the third pairing alongside Timothy Liljegren.

  • Maple Leafs' Joel Edmundson: Might play Tuesday

Edmundson (undisclosed) will be re-evaluated ahead of a matchup with Florida on Tuesday. Head coach Sheldon Keefe told reporters, "We'll see where he's at tomorrow just to be sure, but practice today was a positive sign for him," per Mark Masters of TSN. Edmundson has played in just one of Toronto's last 10 outings due to various injury concerns but seems to be nearing a return to action. Considering the defenseman has just six points in 44 contests, few fantasy managers should be banking on Edmundson producing offensively.

Edmundson (undisclosed) told reporters he's good to go for Thursday's matchup with New Jersey, Mark Masters of TSN reports. Edmundson should return to a bottom-pairing role following his eight-game absence. The 30-year-old blueliner has picked up just six points through 44 contests this season, so his return won't impact any fantasy lineups.

Edmundson is still reportedly in contention to return versus the Devils on Thursday, though he hasn't been officially cleared to return. • Capitals' Joel Edmundson: Dishes helper Sunday

The assist marks the first point for Edmundson -- who missed the first 14 games of the season recovering from a broken hand -- in 11 games with the Capitals. The 30-year-old plays a simple, steady game on the back end, but he is not enough of an offensive contributor to garner much fantasy consideration.

Edmundson was taken off long-term injured reserve earlier in the day to make his Washington debut. He missed the first 14 games of the 2023-24 campaign after suffering a broken hand during the preseason. The 30-year-old will be a valuable physical presence for the Capitals, but his lack of offensive upside confines his fantasy appeal to deeper leagues that credit hits and blocked shots.
