Ekholm missed the start of training camp but is close to returning to the lineup. He should play at some point in the next 10 days and is expected to be ready for Opening Night in Vancouver on Oct. 11. Ekholm had nine goals and 32 points in 78 games split between Nashville and Edmonton last year.

Ekholm tallied the Oilers' third goal of the first period. The 32-year-old defenseman hadn't scored since April 11, but he's added six helpers through 10 playoff contests. While plus-minus has its flaws, going plus-6 is a good showing no matter how you cut it. Good things happened for the Oilers when Ekholm was on the ice Saturday. He even got involved with the offense, setting up a Zach Hyman tally in the second period. Ekholm is up to a plus-25 rating with 12 points in 19 outings with the Oilers. Through 76 contests overall, he has eight goals, 22 helpers, 131 shots on net, 104 blocked shots and 89 hits.

Ekholm ended his five-game slump when he set up Zach Hyman on the opening goal.
