  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Dishes on two goals in win

Maatta recorded two assists in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Canadiens. Maatta collected a goal and an assist in the prior contest -- a 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs -- so, suffice it to say, he's having a terrific start to April. Maatta has registered six goals to complement 17 assists through 73 games, which marks his first 20-point campaign since he registered 29 points with the Penguins in 2017-18.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Two points in win

Maatta tallied a goal and added an assist in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs. Maatta opened the scoring 1:30 into the first period, intercepting a Toronto pass before beating Matt Murray on a breakaway. Maatta would add a second point later in the frame, assisting on a Dylan Larkin tally. The goal was Maatta's first since Feb. 15, a span of 23 games, and his first multi-point effort since Dec. 4. The 28-year-old blueliner is up to 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) with a minus-7 rating in 72 games this season.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Registers helper in win

Maatta emerged with a secondary assist in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Capitals. Maatta inked a two-year, $6 million contract extension last Thursday. He's strung together five goals, 13 assists and a plus-6 rating through 52 games, which are strong numbers for a third-pairing defenseman. His shooting percentage (11.9) will be tough to sustain, but that's splitting hairs on an otherwise productive campaign for the Finn.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Inks contract extension

Maatta signed a two-year, $6 million contract extension Thursday. Maatta has five goals and 17 points in 49 games, his best offensive output since the 2017-18 season with the Penguins, when he had seven goals and 29 points in 82 contests.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Chips in assist

Maatta secured an assist in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Canucks. Maatta synched up with Filip Hronek, helping his defensive partner to his first goal in the last 21 games. There have been some big moments from Maatta on the way to four goals and 12 assists through 47 games, but he's not a factor on the power play and ranks No. 73 in points among defensemen, meaning you'd have to be in quite the deep league to render him worthy of a roster spot.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Getting shots to fall

Maatta was credited with a goal in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Blue Jackets. He was the last Detroit player to touch the puck on an own goal by Columbus' Mathieu Olivier, but they all count. Maatta has four goals on 29 shots, a remarkable 13.8 percent rate which ranks third in league among defensemen who have appeared in at least 25 games. Earning $2.25 million on a one-year deal, Maatta has been a bargain for the Original Six club; he's posted a plus-6 rating, 15 points, 40 hits and 60 blocked shots through 37 contests for a well-rounded profile.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Provides spark in win

Maatta opened the scoring for the Red Wings in their 7-4 win over the Lightning on Wednesday. An illness sent Maata to injured reserve earlier this month, but he's back in the fold and playing well. The 28-year-old defender notched an assist in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Capitals, only to follow it up with a five-hole tally in the latest contest which helped the Wings snap a six-game losing streak. With three goals, nine assists and a plus-7 rating through 28 games, Maatta is overachieving relative to his third-pairing role.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Will play Saturday

Maatta (illness) will play Saturday against the Senators, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Maatta missed four games with the illness. He has two goals and 10 points in 25 games this season. Maatta will line up on the third pairing with Jordan Oesterle versus Ottawa.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Placed on injured reserve

Maatta (illness) was designated for injured reserve Wednesday. Maatta has already been ruled out against the Wild on Wednesday, so his placement on IR doesn't change his recovery timeline. Prior to getting ill, the 28-year-old Finn was mired in a 16-game goal drought during which he registered just four assists, nine shots and 20 hits. With Maatta out, the team previously recalled Steven Kampfer to provide emergency depth on the blue line.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Sidelined with illness

Maatta won't play Tuesday against Carolina or Wednesday versus Minnesota due to a non-COVID illness. Maatta has already been sidelined for two games, and he'll miss a minimum of two more with his non-COVID illness. The 28-year-old defender, who's picked up 10 points through 25 contests this campaign, should return to a top-four role once he's cleared to play.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Unlikely to play Tuesday

Maatta (illness) probably won't be available to play Tuesday against Carolina, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Maatta, who has already missed the past two games, did not take part in Monday's practice. He is listed as day-to-day. Maatta has produced two goals, 10 points, 20 shots on net, 44 blocks and 29 hits in 25 games this year.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Dealing with illness

Maatta will miss Thursday's game against Florida because of an illness. Maatta has two goals, 10 points, 44 blocks and 29 hits in 25 games this season. Gustav Lindstrom is ready to return from an undisclosed injury, so he'll help fill the void left by Maatta's absence.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Snaps nine-game scoring drought

Maatta recorded two assists in the Red Wings' 4-2 win against Columbus on Sunday. Maatta ended his nine-game scoring drought. He has two goals and nine points in 24 contests in 2022-23. He recorded 29 points in 2013-14 as a rookie and matched that in 2017-18, but those are the only two campaigns in which Maatta has even reached the 20-point milestone, so the 28-year-old shouldn't be counted on to make regular offensive contributions.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Nets goal in loss

Maatta scored a goal on two shots in Monday's 8-3 loss to the Sabres. Maatta cooled off after his hot start to the year, as this tally snapped a four-game point streak. The 28-year-old blueliner has been a good fit on the Red Wings' second pairing, though his early offense has been a surprise. He has two goals, four helpers, 11 shots on net, 18 blocked shots, nine hits and a plus-3 rating through nine contests.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Slings another helper

Maatta registered an assist in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Blackhawks. Maatta's burst of offense to start the year has been unexpected but not unwelcome. The 28-year-old Finn already has a goal, four assists, four shots on net and a plus-4 rating through four contests. Most importantly, he's been a steadying presence on the second pairing alongside Filip Hronek -- those two have been the Red Wings' most consistent defensemen so far, though that's likely to be temporary with Moritz Seider around. Without power-play time, Maatta's offense should level off in the near future.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Finds empty net in debut

Making his Red Wings debut in the season opener Friday, Maatta scored an empty-net goal in a 3-0 win over the Canadiens. Maatta signed a one-year pact with the Red Wings in the offseason. The Finnish blueliner remains a solid shot blocker, but his goal in the uncovered cage to start the new campaign actually matched his scoring mark from last season, when he recorded 66 games with the Kings. It will be tough to rely on Maatta for consistent offensive production, especially since he isn't an option on the power play.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Headed for Motor City

Maatta agreed to terms on a one-year, $2.25 million deal with Detroit on Wednesday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports. Maatta has missed the 10-point mark in back-to-back seasons and hasn't produced more than 20 points in any of his last four campaigns. As such, fantasy players shouldn't be expecting much offensively out of the blueliner this year, though he could see a slight uptick in minutes with his new club.

  • Kings' Olli Maatta: Chips in with assist

Maatta produced an assist in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Canucks. Maatta had the secondary helper on an Adrian Kempe goal in the second period. The 27-year-old Maatta didn't see much of a bounce-back on offense in 2021-22, logging just eight points in 66 outings. He's added 61 shots on net, 67 hits, 94 blocked shots and a plus-17 rating. The Finn could be an important part of the Kings' depth during the playoffs -- he's a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Penguins, but he projects for third-pairing minutes this postseason.

  • Kings' Olli Maatta: Picks up helper Thursday

Maatta recorded an assist in Thursday's 3-2 shootout win over the Flames. Maatta has earned two assists in his last four games. The 27-year-old had the secondary helper on Viktor Arvidsson's tally Thursday. Through 55 contests, Maatta has just seven points with 79 blocked shots, 55 hits, 55 shots on net and a plus-18 rating, mainly in a bottom-four role.
