Wideman had an assist and one blocked shot over 8:00 of ice time in Thursday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Rangers. Wideman picked up the secondary helper on Alex Belzile's first-period strike. It was just the fifth point in 34 games for the veteran, who has taken a secondary role on a blue line filled with young defensemen.... See More ... See Less

Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Returns to ice
Wideman had two shots on goal, three blocked shots and two penalty minutes over 12:47 of ice time in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Hurricanes. Wideman returned to the ice following an eight-game absence due to an upper-body injury. He was eased back into the lineup, playing 18 shifts, the lowest amount among Montreal defensemen. He's been in and out of the lineup, either by injury or healthy scratch, and has just four points in 33 games. His last point was an assist in a 7-2 loss to Buffalo on Nov. 22.... See More ... Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Back at it
Wideman (upper body) will be activated off injured reserve and return to the lineup Tuesday versus Carolina, Marc Antoine Godin of The Athletic reports. Wideman should return to a second-pairing role against the Hurricanes. He's picked up four helpers through 32 contests this campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Added to injured reserve list
Wideman (upper body) was put on the injured reserve list Thursday, per Capfriendly. Wideman last played Feb. 16, so this move might be retroactive to that date. However, the Canadiens announced Thursday that they consider Wideman to be week-to-week, so he isn't expected to return soon. The 33-year-old has four assists in 32 games this season.... See More ... Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Out week-to-week
Wideman is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury. Wideman has missed the last two games, last playing a week ago versus the Hurricanes. He has four assists in 32 games after a four-goal and 23-assist campaign in 2021-22.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Unavailable Tuesday
Wideman (undisclosed) won't make the trip with the Canadiens to New Jersey for Tuesday's game, Arpon Basu of The Athletic reports. Wideman didn't practice Monday and received treatment for an injury. This comes after he took part in Montreal's skills competition Sunday, but it's unclear at this time if he was injured during the festivities. Wideman has recorded four assists, 37 blocks and 63 PIM in 32 appearances this season. His status for Friday's contest versus Philadelphia has not been determined yet.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Replaces injured Matheson
Wideman had one shot on goal over 16:39 of ice time in Monday's 3-2 shootout win over Arizona. Wideman filled in for the injured Mike Matheson, who has been ruled out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. Wideman has been a healthy scratch for 13 of the last 22 games, coinciding with the returns of the then-injured Joel Edmundson and Matheson. He's expected to remain in the lineup until Matheson or David Savard (upper body) are ready.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Returns to lineup
Wideman had an assist, one shot on goal, one hit, three blocked shots and a five-minute major over 14:01 of ice time in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Sabres. Wideman played like someone who was a healthy scratch the previous six games. His roster spot was the casualty as Montreal's injured blueliners returned to action. First it was Joel Edmundson and then Mike Matheson. The Canadiens are still relatively young on defense but went with a veteran majority Tuesday, with Johnny Kovacevic and Arber Xhekaj taking a seat.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Sits Thursday
Wideman was a healthy scratch for Thursday's 3-2 loss to Winnipeg. The Canadiens needed room on the active roster for Joel Edmundson, who was activated from injured reserve and made his season debut. Wideman had points in three of the last four contests, but the Habs have too many healthy bodies and presumably want their young blueliners -- Kaiden Guhle, Jordan Harris and Arber Xhekaj -- taking shifts over the 32-year-old veteran.... Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Slides assist in loss
Wideman had a power-play assist, three shots on net, three blocked shots and picked up 12 penalty minutes in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to Minnesota. Wideman was the secondary helper on Nick Suzuki's goal in the third period. He later picked up a cross-checking minor and 10-minute misconduct as part of a kerfuffle following the Wild's Marco Rossi shoving Juraj Slafkovsky into the boards with 1:20 left. Wideman has assists in three off the last four games, including two on the man-advantage unit.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Logs assist in loss
Wideman logged an assist, a blocked shot and two penalty minutes over 17:37 of ice time in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Wild. Wideman picked up the primary helper on a Cole Caufield goal early in the second period. The assist was the first point of the season for Wideman, who chipped in with a respectable 27 points over 64 games last season. He can also be found on the first power-play unit.... See More ... Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Pens two-year deal
Wideman put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension with Montreal on Monday. Wideman is coming off a career year for the Habs this season in which he set new personal bests in assists (23), points (27) and power-play points (12). It's the first multi-year deal the defenseman has signed since February of 2016, having played the last three seasons on one-year contracts. Even with his increased offensive output, Wideman shouldn't be expected to offer more than mid-range fantasy value heading into the 2022-23 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Point-per-game pace in last 12
Wideman had a goal and two assists in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Devils. His goal a 1:11 started a third-period frenzy that pushed starter Andrew Hammond out of the net. Wideman has been particularly prolific in his last 12 games, putting up 12 points (two goals, 10 helpers). Many players have responded well to the teachings of new coach Marty St. Louis and that includes Wideman, who seems to be thriving.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Labeled healthy scratch
Wideman will be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Lightning. There is no injury at play with Wideman's expected absence Saturday. He's simply sitting to make room for the return of Ryan Poehling (upper body). The team's decision to scratch Wideman is a bit of an odd one considering he has nine points in his last 10 games.... Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Sitting out Saturday
Wideman (undisclosed) will miss Saturday's game against the Lightning, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports. The reason for Wideman's absence remains unclear, but he won't play in the Stanley Cup Final rematch. His next chance to suit up will come Tuesday against the Senators.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Widens scoring streak
Wideman scored a goal and added an assist in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Panthers. Wideman opened the scoring just 2:32 in, extending his point streak to four games. The veteran defenseman's second-period helper was his ninth point in the last nine games, as Wideman has been a surprisingly consistent source of offense recently. He's hanging around on waivers in the vast majority of leagues, so fantasy managers in need of scoring from the blue line should consider giving Wideman a look after this latest strong showing.... Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Nabs helper in shootout loss
Wideman logged an assist and went plus-2 in Sunday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Devils. Wideman has been productive lately with seven assists in his last eight games. Five of those helpers have come with the man advantage. The 32-year-old is a bit of a power-play specialist at this point in his career. He's up to a career-high 20 points, 12 of which have been power-play assists. He's added 62 shots on net, 49 PIM, 36 hits, 35 blocked shots and a minus-20 rating in 53 outings.... See More ... Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Adds another PPA
Wideman had a power-play assist, one shot on goal and two blocked shots in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs. Wideman, as the point man on the power play, directed a pass to Cole Caufield, who wristed a bullet past Erik Kallgren in the second period. Five of Wideman's last six points have been power-play helpers. The blueliner is up to 19 points (11 on the power play) through 52 games.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Racks up another PP assist
Wideman had a power-play assist and one blocked shot in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Panthers. Montreal's power play has been hot of late, and Wideman is part of the success. He has five assists in the last six games with four of those helpers with the man-advantage unit. He has 10 power-play assists and 18 points overall through 51 games.... See More ... See Less -
Canadiens' Chris Wideman: Bags two apples Sunday
Wideman dished out two assists -- one on the power play -- in Sunday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers. Wideman assisted on both of Nick Suzuki's second-period goals, the first of which came on the power play. The veteran defenseman is making the most of his prominent role with the extra man, as three of Wideman's four points over the last four games have come in that special teams situation....
