With no points in five games and often serving as a healthy scratch, Grimaldi easily passed through waivers and will head to AHL Milwaukee, where he recorded 11 points in 10 games back in 2018-19.

Grimaldi was waived by the Predators on Thursday, Adam Vingan of The Athletic reports.
Grimaldi has only cracked Nashville's lineup on five occasions through the first 13 games of the campaign, so this move doesn't come as a surprise. Grimaldi will almost certainly be assigned to the Predators' AHL affiliate if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Grimaldi scored a shorthanded goal in Monday's 5-0 win over the Hurricanes.
With Tyler Lewington in the sin bin for cross-checking, Grimaldi converted on a feed from Tanner Jeannot just 2:51 into the game. The 28-year-old Grimaldi has had a tumultuous season -- he scored four times versus Detroit on March 25, but was recently a healthy scratch for eight games before drawing into the regular-season finale. Overall, he produced 10 tallies, three assists, 62 shots on net and a minus-3 rating in 40 outings.

Grimaldi was a healthy scratch for the fifth consecutive game Saturday against the Stars.
This should not come as a surprise to anyone, as the 28-year-old Grimaldi has been in and out of the lineup all season, and furthermore has never played a full season in the NHL in his career. Given that the Preds are desperately clinging to a playoff spot with just four games remaining, it will be interesting to see if Grimaldi can work his way back into the lineup at some point down the stretch.

Grimaldi scored a goal on two shots, supplied an assist and went plus-4 in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Lightning.
Grimaldi set up a Roman Josi goal in the first period, then scored one of his own in the second. The Predators' top line of Grimaldi, Viktor Arvidsson and Ryan Johansen combined for seven points in the contest. For the year, Grimaldi has nine tallies, three assists, 57 shots on net and a minus-5 rating. He could stay in a top-six role until one of Eeli Tolvanen (lower body) or Filip Forsberg (upper body) can return.

Grimaldi followed his four-goal explosion from Thursday with another snipe in the second period Saturday, jumping on a turnover in the offensive zone and roofing a shot from the high slot. The goal gave Nashville a 2-0 lead with 7:02 left in the second period and stood as the game-winner. Grimaldi had just three goals all year prior to his two-game outburst and suddenly needs just a pair to match the career-high 10 he potted in 2019-20.

Grimaldi entered Thursday's game on a 15-game point drought. He more than doubled his goal output for the year to seven tallies in 26 contests. He had a hat trick by the 8:08 mark of the first period, and added the fourth goal late in the third. The 28-year-old shouldn't be expected to perform at this level, as he has just eight points, 37 shots on net and a minus-7 rating in 26 contests.

Grimaldi extended his current pointless streak to nine games in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Panthers, giving him just four points in 19 games this season.
Grimaldi's game looked to be on the upswing coming into this season after he cracked the 30-point mark last year with 10 goals and 21 assists in 66 games. The way things are going, however, he'll be lucky to hit double digits given his current pace. He's a lower-tier fantasy option in most formats, so feel free to look for a suitable replacement.

Grimaldi opened the scoring with a terrific snipe 4:43 into the game, making a quick cut in the left circle and wiring one top-shelf for his second goal of the year. The 27-year-old generally fills a bottom-six role for the Nashville -- he skated on the fourth line Tuesday -- but is capable of making skilled plays offensively. However, his limited real-life role caps negates any possible fantasy upside.

Grimaldi got the Predators on the board with a pretty goal midway through the first period. He jumped on a loose puck in the defensive zone and went coast to coast along the right side before finding the net with a quick slapper from the right dot. It was the first goal of the season for the 27-year-old, who has established himself as a bottom-six regular in Nashville after abbreviated showings with Florida and Colorado.

The 27-year-old forward has been a bit of a late bloomer, but he's established himself this season with 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) over 58 games. Grimaldi has proven he can be a placeholder in the top six, although he's floated around the lineup this year. This deal will lock him down through the 2021-22 campaign.

Grimaldi had the lone helper on Nick Bonino's first-period tally. The winger's career-best season continued -- he's at 26 points, 92 shots and a plus-10 rating in 49 games this year. Grimaldi has just 20 hits and eight PIM, so he's not going to add much physicality, but the scoring is enough to be worth a look in deeper formats.
