Lightning's Conor Sheary: Nearing return
Per coach Jon Cooper, Sheary (upper body) is likely to return during the Lightning's trip out West that begins Dec. 9, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports.
Sheary was injured Nov. 7 versus Montreal and has missed the last 10 games. Sheary was off to a slow offensive start before his injury, scoring once while adding a pair of assists in 13 games.

Lightning's Conor Sheary: On IR
Sheary (upper body) was placed on the injured reserve list Wednesday, per Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times.
Sheary sustained the injury during Tuesday's 5-3 win over Montreal. He has a goal and three points in 13 contests this season. The 31-year-old will be eligible to be activated off injured reserve in time for Tampa Bay's contest against Chicago on Nov. 16. In the meantime, Waltteri Merela was called up from AHL Syracuse on Wednesday.

Sheary is a capable winger when slotted beside the right line mates, and at first glance, it appears as though he has found a good match. Together, the trio had three scoring chances to just one against Monday. They also generated 15 shot attempts while surrendering only six. If Sheary sticks on line two, it would mean he would likely skate with Cirelli and Steven Stamkos. In that situation, he could be a late-round gem.

The helper gives Sheary nine points over his last seven games -- alongside a sterling plus-11 rating. The 30-year-old has been glued to the top line alongside Alex Ovechkin in recent weeks, but the imminent return of Tom Wilson (knee) and Nicklas Backstrom (hip) is likely to drastically alter the makeup of Washington's top six, which could lead to a reduced role for Sheary. Sheary helped out Alex Ovechkin's 798th and 799th career tallies, which were scored in the first period. The latter of those goals came on the power play. Through seven outings in December, Sheary has two goals, five helpers and four power-play points. The winger is clearly enjoying life on the top line -- he's up to 18 points (six on the power play), 65 shots, 14 PIM and a minus-4 rating in 31 contests overall.
