Lindgren (upper body) is listed as healthy on the Capitals' training camp roster released Tuesday. Lindgren missed some time late in 2022-23 with the injury, but it was never expected to keep him out of action to begin this season. The 29-year-old enters 2023-24 as Darcy Kuemper's presumptive backup. Lindgren played in a career-high 31 contests a year ago and should see similar usage, giving him some late-round fantasy appeal in deep formats.... See More ... See Less

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Injury not considered serious
Lindgren will miss Thursday's season finale against the Devils with an upper-body issue, but his injury isn't believed to be serious, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. Lindgren will finish the campaign having gone 13-11-3 while posting a 3.05 GAA and an .899 save percentage through 31 appearances. It wouldn't be surprising to see the 29-year-old netminder post similar numbers while serving as Washington's No. 2 netminder behind Darcy Kuemper in 2023-24.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Not dressing Thursday
Lindgren (undisclosed) will not dress for the final game of the season Thursday versus Washington. Lindgren was injured Tuesday versus Boston. He will end the season with a 13-11-3 record. His peripherals were mediocre this season as he had a 3.05 GAA and .899 save percentage. Lindgren still has another two seasons on his contract, so look for him to return next season as the backup to Darcy Kuemper.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Leaves with injury
Lindgren (undisclosed) left Tuesday's game versus the Bruins in the third period, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. Lindgren made a couple of big saves but appeared to injure himself on the play. He exited after 45:21 of ice time, stopping 33 of 36 shots, though the Capitals were down 3-1 when he left. With just one game left on the Capitals' schedule, he may be shut down for the remainder of the year.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Starting Tuesday
Lindgren will protect the road goal Tuesday versus the Bruins, Mike Vogel of the Capitals' official site reports. Lindgren will handle the second half of a back-to-back after Darcy Kuemper won versus the Islanders on Monday. It's unclear if this will be Lindgren's last appearance of the season. He's lost his last three outings (0-2-1), surrendering 15 goals over that span, and even an injury-cautious Bruins team is still an intimidating opponent.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Best game of 2023 not enough
Lindgren made 33 saves in a 4-2 loss to Florida on Saturday. He allowed three goals. Lindgren was sharp Saturday -- there's no other way to put it. But he eventually broke after the kitties outshot the Caps 18-3 in the third period. Matthew Tkachuk scored his 40th goal with just one minute remaining to push the score to 3-2 and an empty-net goal finished the game. It was Lindgren's best game in 2023 and it could earn him the start in one of the Caps remaining three games.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: First off ice Saturday
Lindgren was the first goaltender off the ice at practice Saturday and will defend the home crease versus Florida, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports. Lindgren last played March 21, giving up seven goals on 39 shots in a 7-6 overtime loss to lowly Columbus. Lindgren is 13-9-3 with a 3.02 GAA and .898 save percentage. He will look for some redemption Saturday against the Panthers, who have won five games in a row.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Returns to practice
Lindgren (illness) was back on the ice for Tuesday's practice, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. Lindgren missed Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Rangers. He will available for Thursday's contest in Montreal. The 29-year-old netminder has a 13-9-3 record this season with a 3.02 GAA and an .898 save percentage in 29 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Won't suit up Sunday
Lindgren (illness) won't be in the lineup Sunday against the Rangers. Lindgren, who also missed Saturday's practice, will be replaced by Mitchell Gibson, who has agreed to an amateur tryout contract with the Capitals. Gibson is slated to serve as Darcy Kuemper's backup Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Not at practice Saturday
Lindgren (non-COVID illness) is not at practice Saturday, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports. Lindgren gave up seven goals on 39 shots in his last start and has sat on the bench for the last four games. He is 13-9-3 with a 3.02 GAA and .898 save percentage.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Allows seven goals in OT loss
Lindgren allowed seven goals on 39 shots in Tuesday's 7-6 overtime loss to the Blue Jackets. Lindgren and the Capitals carried a 5-3 lead into the third period, but the Blue Jackets scored three times, tying the game 6-6 before Jack Roslovic scored the winner in overtime. It's been a tough stretch for Lindgren as he falls to 1-2-1 with an .854 save percentage over his last five appearances. The 29-year-old netminder is now 13-9-3 with an .898 save percentage this season.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Taking on Columbus
Lindgren will guard the home goal versus the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic reports. Lindgren struggled in his last start Sunday against the Wild, surrendering five goals on 40 shots en route to a 5-3 defeat. He'll try to get back in the win column in a favorable home matchup with a Columbus team that's 8-21-5 on the road this season.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Gets little help in loss
Lindgren made 35 saves in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Wild. For the most part, Minnesota's goals came as a result of the Wild out-working Washington's defense rather than poor play by Lindgren, but he still lost for the third time in four starts since the All-Star break. With Darcy Kuemper (upper body) banged up, Lindgren's workload could increase significantly in the short term, but his 2.87 GAA and .902 save percentage don't make him a particularly appealing fantasy option.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Facing Minnesota
Lindgren will guard the road goal Sunday versus the Wild, Mike Vogel of the Capitals' official site reports. Lindgren is coming off a 23-save effort in Wednesday's 5-4 shootout win over Buffalo. He has a 13-8-2 record this season with a 2.78 GAA and a .903 save percentage in 27 appearances. Darcy Kuemper is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, so Zach Fucale will suit up as Lindgren's backup against Minnesota. The Wild rank 24th in the league this campaign with 2.87 goals per game.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Gives up four in shootout win
Lindgren made 23 saves in Wednesday's 5-4 shootout win over the Sabres. Lindgren allowed three goals in the first period but held the fort after that, keeping the Capitals within striking distance before Washington erased a 4-2 deficit in the final 10 minutes of regulation. The backup goalie stopped both shootout attempts he faced to earn the Capitals an important second point in the standings. Lindgren started this second leg of a back-to-back, but he's unlikely to see the net outside of such situations, as Washington's likely to ride starter Darcy Kuemper during the team's uphill battle to make the playoffs.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Set to start Wednesday
Lindgren is expected to start at home Wednesday versus Buffalo, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com. Washington has been leaning heavily on Darcy Kuemper lately, so this will be Lindgren's first appearance since Feb. 26. The 29-year-old has a 12-8-2 record, 2.74 GAA and .905 save percentage in 26 contests this season. Lindgren has a 3.19 GAA and an .894 save percentage over his last four outings. The Sabres are ranked third offensively in 2022-23 with 3.65 goals per game.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Needed in relief Sunday
Lindgren stopped 16 of 18 shots after replacing Darcy Kuemper midway through the second period of Sunday's 7-4 loss to the Sabres. He was only marginally more effective than Kuemper, as the Capitals' defense was the real culprit in the poor afternoon showing. Lindgren saw action in only three games in February and didn't pick up a win. On the season, he has a 2.74 GAA and .905 save percentage through 26 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Shaky in Thursday's loss
Lindgren stopped 17 of 20 shots in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Ducks. Anaheim's final goal was scored into an empty net. Lindgren had little chance on the Ducks' first tally, which came on a breakaway after the Capitals defense fell asleep midway through the second period, but the netminder would probably like to have the next two back. Lindgren hasn't seen a lot of work lately behind a healthy Darcy Kuemper, and his recent performance hasn't warranted more action -- over seven appearances since the beginning of January, Lindgren has a 3.12 GAA and an .875 save percentage.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Tending twine Thursday
Lindgren will get the home start Thursday against the Ducks, Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic reports. With Darcy Kuemper struggling in recent outings, Lindgren gets the start in what has become a crucial game against Anaheim as Washington tries desperately to reclaim lost ground in the Eastern Conference playoff race. The 29-year-old Lindgren has allowed three or more goals in each of his last four starts and the Capitals have not been able to provide consistent offense for their netminders in recent weeks, so there is some risk attached to starting him, though a possible return of Alex Ovechkin (personal) would certainly help Washington's chances.... See More ... See Less -
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Little help in loss
Lindgren allowed three goals on 32 shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Sharks. The fourth goal was an empty-netter. Lindgren didn't get much support here, as the Capitals fell behind early and didn't push back much, mustering just 21 shots on goal. The 29-year-old has just one win in his last six outings. He's at 12-7-2 with a 2.69 GAA and a .907 save percentage through 24 games this season. Darcy Kuemper should be in goal again for Tuesday's big divisional matchup with the Hurricanes.... See More ...
