  • Red Wings' Alex Lyon: Iced by Pens in OT

Lyon stopped 21 shots in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Penguins. The 31-year-old netminder had little chance on an Erik Karlsson blast from the slot early in OT, but he did play well enough to earn Detroit a potentially crucial point in the standings. Lyon still has only two wins since the beginning of March, however, going 2-9-3 with a 3.65 GAA and .893 save percentage over his last 14 outings. The Red Wings sit one point back of Pittsburgh in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Lyon turned aside 21 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Capitals. Detroit out-shot the visitors 43-23 on the night, but Charlie Lindgren stood on his head in the other crease while Lyon got beaten by Dylan Strome and Alex Ovechkin in the final three minutes of the second period. Lyon has allowed two goals or less in five of his last seven starts, posting a 2.29 GAA and .932 save percentage over that stretch, but he has only a 2-3-2 record to show for it as the Red Wings scramble for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. After Tuesday's loss, they sit one point back of the Caps for the No. 8 seed, with the Penguins and Flyers also very much in the mix.

Fantasy managers may want to stay away from Lyon as a starting option down the stretch.

  • Red Wings' Alex Lyon: Falls in overtime

Lyon stopped 26 of 30 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Capitals on Tuesday. The Capitals could not get one past Lyon in the first period, but then he allowed an early goal in the second frame to give Washington some life. Lyon has really struggled in March, as he has not produced a win since Feb. 27. Since March 14, Lyon has been splitting time with James Reimer, so fantasy managers will want to watch for who the starter is as the Red Wings continue to battle for a playoff spot.

  • Red Wings' Alex Lyon: Plays well enough to win

Lyon made 32 saves in a 1-0 loss to Nashville on Saturday. Lyon was locked in a goalie duel with Juuse Saros until late in the third period. However, Filip Forsberg pulled the puck out of a scrum and went high over the glove of Lyon at the 14:46 mark for the game's only goal. It was a tough-luck loss for Lyon, who played well enough to win. He has struggled since Feb. 27, going 0-8-0 in his past eight starts. He has allowed four or more goals six times during that span. Each time the Red Wings answered with a goal of their own, Lyon allowed one soon after. The loss adds to his recent struggles, as he's allowed three or more goals in his last eight starts and taken seven consecutive regulation losses. It's too early to write Lyon off completely, but his starting role isn't guaranteed, as the Red Wings will likely ride the hot hand in net down the stretch with every point critical to their playoff hopes.
