Byfield had a rough first period, and he was moved down to the third line, with Alex Iafallo joining the top line. After the switch, Byfield was able to provide a third-period tally, but that was little more than window dressing in the lopsided loss. Byfield put the Kings in some danger with his second penalty of the game, a delay of game minor for putting the puck over the glass. Just after the Kings killed it off, Byfield was able to pop in the empty-netter to secure their win. The 20-year-old is up to three goals, 18 points, 52 shots on net, 36 hits, 22 PIM and a plus-7 rating through 39 outings. He has a goal and five helpers over his last seven games.

Byfield left Saturday's 4-2 win over the Blues in the third period, but John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports the 20-year-old is fine.
Byfield logged an assist earlier in the game. He was involved in a collision in the third period and didn't finish the contest, but head coach Todd McLellan indicated it won't be an issue for Byfield going forward. The young forward has picked up 15 points, 45 shots on net, 31 hits and a plus-4 rating through 35 outings this season, and he's seen most of his even-strength minutes lately on Anze Kopitar's line.

Byfield's marker came on the power play at 17:04 of the second period. It was his second goal and seventh point in 19 games in 2022-23. He entered the contest averaging just 12:49 of ice time this season, but Byfield logged 17:07 on Saturday, including 3:15 with the man advantage. If the Kings keep using him like that, then the 20-year-old might start to make significant offensive contributions.
