  • Flames' Connor Zary: Finds twine in loss

Zary scored a goal on two shots and added two PIM in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Wild.

Zary's effectiveness on offense has waned over the last couple of weeks. He went eight games without a goal, picking up four assists in that span, which is still solid work for a rookie thrust into a top-six role. The 22-year-old has four goals, seven helpers, 21 shots on net, six PIM and a plus-3 rating through 15 contests overall.

Zary helped out on A.J. Greer's game-tying goal in the third period. While Zary has gone six games without a goal, he's posted four assists in that span. He's cooled off a bit from his four-game point streak to begin his NHL career, but the 22-year-old winger continues to be a positive for an inconsistent roster. He has 10 points, 15 shots on net, four PIM and a plus-3 rating through 12 contests overall.

  • Flames' Connor Zary: Likely out Wednesday

Zary (undisclosed) is "a little banged up" and is not projected to play Wednesday versus the Predators, Eric Francis of Sportsnet reports.

Zary saw just 11:07 of ice time in Monday's game versus the Kraken due to the lingering injury. The 22-year-old's absence will lead to Adam Ruzicka to get back into the lineup on the fourth line, while Dillon Dube will get a look alongside Nazem Kadri and Martin Pospisil.

  • Flames' Connor Zary: Fantastic since debut

Zary had two assists Saturday in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Islanders.

Zary has eight points, including five helpers, in his first eight games. Since his Nov. 1 debut, he has put up the same number of points as Hawks rookie pivot and phenom, Connor Bedard (five goals, three assists in six games). Zary had an excellent AHL season last year, compiling 58 points in 72 games, and has really clicked with linemate Nazem Kadri since joining the Flames this campaign. It will be hard for him to sustain this level of play, but the talent is real.

  • Flames' Connor Zary: Collects game-winner in Montreal

Zary scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Canadiens.

All the game's scoring came in the second period, and Zary decided the contest by parking in front of Sam Montembeault and tapping home a slick feed from Rasmus Andersson. The 24th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Zary has gotten his career with the Flames off to a flying start with three goals and six points in six games since being promoted from AHL Calgary at the beginning of November, and the 22-year-old also led all Flames forwards in ice time on the power play Tuesday. His fantasy stock is soaring, and while he may not maintain a point-per-game pace, his strong two-way game and top-shelf hockey IQ should quickly make him a fixture in the lineup.

Zary logged a power-play assist and two hits in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Kraken.

  • Flames' Connor Zary: Instant impact in debut

Zary scored a goal on six shots and added two PIM in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Stars.

Making his NHL debut, Zary didn't wait long to make an impact, scoring 5:28 into the game. His six shots tied for second on the team in Wednesday's game, and he also saw 16:11 of ice time, including 3:09 on the power play. The 22-year-old was on the second line with Nazem Kadri and Yegor Sharangovich, though linemates will likely change frequently with the Flames struggling. Zary was selected in the first round in 2020, and if he can continue to take lots of shots and influence play, he should have a good chance to stick in the lineup.

Zary (ankle) will make his season debut for AHL Stockton on Wednesday, Ryan Pinder of Sportsnet 960 reports.

Zary started the year on non-roster injured reserve for the Flames after suffering an ankle injury in the preseason. Once the 20-year-old center gets a few games under his belt in the minors, he should at least be on the shortlist of potential call-ups during the 2021-22 campaign.

  • Flames' Connor Zary: Dealing with broken ankle

Zary (ankle) is now week-to-week after suffering a broken ankle in Monday's rookie game versus Edmonton.

Zary won't need surgery on his ankle, but this news essentially rules him out for most, if not all, of training camp. The first-round pick from 2020 doesn't have an official timeline yet, but similar injuries tend to require around six weeks to heal, so he'll likely end up missing some regular-season action as well.
