Schneider found the back of the net midway through the third period to extend New York's lead to 5-1. It was his first point in nine outings and first goal in 46. Schneider is serving on the third pairing and shouldn't be expected to make regular offensive contributions. However, the 21-year-old has been a factor in hits and blocks, with 15 and nine, respectively, in six playoff appearances this year.

Schneider's doing what's asked of him in a third-pairing role, but that usage doesn't include much offense, as he's been sitting on five goals since Jan. 5. Perhaps the well-rounded 21-year-old will eventually take on more responsibilities in the offensive zone, but for now, Schneider's happy to defer to Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba and K'Andre Miller when it comes to creating offense from the blue line.

Back with the big club after spending a game glued to the bench and being sent down to the AHL in a paper move to create cap space for the Patrick Kane trade, Schneider returned to a prominent role. The Rangers dressed only five defensemen, and Schneider's 23:37 TOI was second-most among the depleted group. His assist on Vladimir Tarasenko's overtime winner was Schneider's 16th point of the season.

Playing in his 23rd NHL game, Schneider notched his sixth point with an assist on Jonny Brodzinski's first-period tally. The 2020 first-round pick has been solid defensively, but a positional mistake cost him in this one, as he allowed a lane for a pass to spring Derek Grant for a breakaway and failed to deter Grant on the back-check.
