Kochetkov allowed four goals on 22 shots in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Devils. Kotchetkov entered in relief of Frederik Andersen with the Hurricanes down 4-0 less than a minute into the second period. The Hurricanes rallied for four goals over the final two frames, but Kotchetkov couldn't stop the bleeding on the defensive end, eventually taking an 8-4 loss. The 23-year-old Kotchetkov was called upon to back up Andersen prior to Sunday's contest with Antti Raanta (illness) unavailable. Kotchetkov went 12-7-5 with a .909 save percentage in the regular season. He'll likely be the Canes' third option again for Game 4 if Raanta is healthy.... See More ... See Less

Kochetkov was elevated from AHL Chicago on Monday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Kochetkov figures to serve as the No. 3 emergency netminder for the Hurricanes heading into the playoffs. The youngster played in 24 games for the club this season, posting a 12-7-5 record with four shutouts and a .909 save percentage. Kochetkov was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Wednesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Kochetkov's demotion all but guarantees that Antti Raanta (lower body) will be ready to serve as at least the backup against Detroit on Thursday. In 24 NHL appearances this year, the 23-year-old Kochetkov posted a 12-7-5 record with a .909 save percentage and four shutouts. It was a tough night for the young netminder, as two of the three pucks that got past Kochetkov in the first period came on deflections, and the 'Canes never recovered. The new year has not been kind to the 23-year-old in general, and in seven NHL starts since the beginning of January, he's gone 1-5-1 with a 3.27 GAA and .868 save percentage. Kochetkov has been great this season with an 11-5-5 record, 2.25 GAA and .915 save percentage in 21 appearances, but he's been less effective recently.
