Petersen was traded from the Kings to Philadelphia on Tuesday, Mayor's Manor reports. This is a cap dump for the Kings, as Petersen is buried on the depth chart and making $5 million per year. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Flyers stick Petersen in the minors to shed part of his salary.... See More ... See Less

Kings' Cal Petersen: Promoted Sunday
Petersen was recalled from AHL Ontario on Sunday. Petersen posted a .904 save percentage and a 2.88 GAA at the AHL level this season. He also appeared in 10 NHL games while registering a brutal .868 save percentage. The 28-year-old will serve as a depth option on the playoff roster.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Put on waivers
Petersen was placed on waivers by Los Angeles on Wednesday, TSN's Chris Johnston reports. Petersen has struggled this season, posting a 5-3-2 record with a 3.75 GAA and .868 save percentage in 10 games. Given that he's signed to a three-year, $15 million contract that runs through 2024-25, Petersen will almost certainly clear waivers. After he does, perhaps the Kings will send him to the AHL so that he can work on his game and regain some confidence.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Stuck with overtime loss
Petersen surrendered four goals on 16 shots in Tuesday's 9-8 overtime loss to the Kraken. Petersen entered the game in the second period after Jonathan Quick allowed five goals on 14 shots. While Petersen was a little better, the back-and-forth nature of the game ended up putting him in line for the negative result. The 28-year-old dropped to 5-3-2 with a 3.75 GAA and an .868 save percentage in 10 outings this season. Both Petersen and Quick are struggling of late, so it's unclear which goalie will get a chance to right the ship Thursday versus the Coyotes.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Falters in second period
Petersen allowed four goals on 24 shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers. The fifth goal was an empty-netter. Petersen kept things clean in the first period, but the Rangers tagged him for three goals in the second. He gave up another unfortunate tally in the third that stuck him with the loss. The 28-year-old dropped to 5-3-1 with a 3.56 GAA and an .876 save percentage through nine outings this season. The Kings' next game is Friday in San Jose, and it seems likely Jonathan Quick will be in goal for that one.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Set to start Tuesday
Petersen was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, Zach Dooley of LA Kings Insider reports, indicating he will play in Tuesday's home game against the Rangers. Petersen is poised to make a second straight start after stopping 26 shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to Seattle. He has a 5-2-1 record this season with a 3.49 GAA and an .880 save percentage.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Suffers loss in overtime
Petersen allowed three goals on 29 shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kraken. It was a close game, but it was one where the Kings led for all of 18 seconds early in the third period. Petersen turned in another solid effort, but Jordan Eberle's tally in overtime prevented the Kings' goalie from earning a third straight win. Through eight appearances, Petersen owns a 5-2-1 record, a 3.49 GAA and an .880 save percentage, though he's been trending in the right direction lately. He's also earned his way back into a timeshare with Jonathan Quick, who would line up to start Tuesday versus the Rangers if the alternating pattern holds.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Guarding cage in Seattle
Petersen will be in the road goal Saturday versus the Kraken, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports. Petersen will get the second half of a back-to-back after Jonathan Quick took a 4-1 loss to the Canucks on Friday. Petersen has won two starts in a row, allowing four goals on 44 shots over that span. That's earned him a 50-50 split of time again lately after Quick had started to run away with the starting role earlier in the month.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Benefits from blocked shots
Petersen made 22 saves during Wednesday's 3-1 victory over the host Oilers. Petersen may have faced 23 shots, but the total could have been much, much higher. The 28-year-old netminder was aided significantly by his teammates, who combined to block 28 shots against the Oilers. When he was tested, Petersen came through, halting the extended point streaks for Leon Draisaitl (11 games) and Connor McDavid (10). The Oilers entered Wednesday fourth in the NHL with 3.69 goals per game. Petersen (5-2-0) backed the Oilers to their fifth win in six games.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: On track to start
According to Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site, Petersen was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate, putting him on track to guard the road goal during Wednesday's matchup with Edmonton. Petersen wasn't great in his last start Saturday against Detroit, surrendering three goals on just 21 shots, but he was still able to come away with a win thanks to strong goal support from his teammates. The 28-year-old goaltender will try to secure a second straight victory in a road matchup with an Oilers team that's averaging 3.78 goals per game at home this season, seventh in the NHL.... Kings' Cal Petersen: Yields three goals in win
Petersen stopped 18 of 21 shots in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Red Wings. Petersen's seen his opportunities dry up with the success of Jonathan Quick. Despite the lackluster numbers Saturday, Petersen was able to emerge with his fourth win in six outings this season. He's added a 4.06 GAA and an .867 save percentage -- those numbers suggest he'll remain in a backup role, especially while Quick is playing well. The Kings begin a road trip up north Monday in Calgary.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Guarding goal Saturday
Petersen will start Saturday's home game against Detroit, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports. Petersen last played Nov. 1 in a 5-2 loss to Dallas. He has a 3-2-0 record this season with a 4.30 GAA and an .868 save percentage. Petersen posted a 21-save shutout win against the Red Wings last season. Detroit has lost two straight contests (0-1-1) going into Saturday's matchup with the Kings, scoring just two goals in each game.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Succumbs to pressure
Petersen yielded five goals on 40 shots during a 5-2 defeat to the Stars on Tuesday. Petersen, who has dropped two of his past three decisions, couldn't withstand the constant offense the Stars generated Tuesday. The 28-year netminder allowed one goal on 18 shots during the first period. On Saturday, overcoming the pressure of not starting in nine days, Petersen earned a 26-save win over the struggling Maple Leafs.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Comes away with win
Petersen made 26 saves in a 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs on Saturday. It was a nice rebound for Petersen, who lasted only one period against the Penguins during his last start. But let's be honest -- the Leafs played like a Ferrari that needed a tune-up, so it wasn't as tough an outing as it should have been. Petersen is now 3-1, but he needs a few more solid outings to see his GAA and save percentage start to level out. He went into Saturday with a 4.97 GAA and .842 save percentage.... See More ... Kings' Cal Petersen: Will face Leafs on Saturday
Petersen will start Saturday at home against Toronto, per Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site. Petersen is off to a rough start, allowing 12 goals over his first three starts. On the plus side, he'll be up against the Maple Leafs, whose offense hasn't gotten going yet this season. Toronto has averaged just 2.75 goals per game, which is tied for the fifth worst in the league. However, Toronto ranked second in 2021-22 with 3.80 goals per game and its core forwards from last year are still there. The Maple Leafs may have gotten off to a slow start, but they're still a big threat.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Gets hook against Pens
Petersen stopped six of nine shots before being replaced by Jonathan Quick to begin the second period of Thursday's 6-1 loss to the Penguins. Quick didn't fare much better, allowing three goals and 25 shots over the final two periods, but it was Petersen who got stuck with the loss. The 28-year-old netminder had won his first two starts of the season but gave up nine goals doing so, and he'll need better performances to challenge Quick for the top job with the Kings.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: First goalie off ice Thursday
Petersen was the first goaltender off the ice Thursday, per Pens Inside Scoop, indicating he will be in the road goal against Pittsburgh. Petersen is 2-0-0 this season, giving up six goals on 35 shots in a win over Minnesota in his first start while improving Tuesday as he gave up three goals on 32 shots in a 4-3 win over Nashville. Petersen will make his second straight start as he faces the Penguins, who are 2-0-1 after a 3-2 overtime loss to the Canadiens on Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Earns shootout win
Petersen stopped 29 of 32 shots in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Predators. Petersen looked better in his second start of the year after allowing six goals to the Wild on Saturday. He kept the Kings in it by keeping the Predators off the board in the third period, allowing Matt Roy to tie the game with a pair of goals. In the shootout, Petersen stopped all three attempts to secure his second win in as many outings. He still hasn't looked all that confident, but he's getting the results that have been more elusive for Jonathan Quick in the early going. The Kings' road trip continues Thursday in Pittsburgh.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Will be in goal Tuesday
Petersen will be in net Tuesday against Nashville, per Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site. Petersen stopped 29 of 35 shots in a 7-6 win against Minnesota on Saturday. While the Predators were traditionally known for their defense, they're a solid team offensively these days. Allowing six goals in a game is rare, so the odds of him doing that poorly again are low.... See More ... See Less -
Kings' Cal Petersen: Struggles to earn victory
Petersen yielded six goals on 35 shots Saturday, but the Kings still earned a 7-6 victory over the Wild. Petersen, who struggled in 35 starts last season, earned a win in his season debut Saturday, but his first win since April 2 was far from easy. Despite possessing a 4-2 lead at the end of 20 minutes Saturday, Petersen allowed two goals in both the second and third periods. The 27-year-old netminder is coming off an uneven season in which he posted a career-low .895 save percentage.... See More ... See Less
