Coghlan was recalled from AHL Springfield on Tuesday, per Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.
Coghlan hasn't seen any NHL action this season, but he's produced offense at a high rate for a defenseman in the AHL. The 26-year-old has recorded 16 goals and 25 assists in 59 games in the minors. He could see his first NHL action of the season against the Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

Coghlan was assigned to AHL Chicago on a conditioning loan Wednesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Coghlan is eligible to spend 14 days with the Wolves during the assignment. He hasn't played an NHL game since Nov. 9, so this is a way for the Hurricanes to get the 24-year-old into game action. This move also more or less guarantees Jalen Chatfield will retain a third-pairing role with the big club for the next two weeks at a minimum.

Coghlan did leave Carolina's preseason game against Buffalo on Oct. 4 with a lower-body injury, but his expected absence Wednesday appears to be a coach's decision. Coghlan was able to play nearly three quarters of the Golden Knights' games in his second NHL campaign. Much of his playing time was due to a long-term injury to Alec Martinez -- Coghlan likely would have been a healthy scratch more if the team's defense corps was at full health.
