  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Joins Swiss club

Pilut signed a two-year contract with Lausanne HC of Switzerland's National League on Tuesday.

Pilut was slated to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He produced one goal, two assists, 14 shots on net and 16 blocked shots in 17 appearances with the Sabres last season. The 27-year-old defender also accounted for 28 points over 47 regular-season contests with AHL Rochester in 2022-23 prior to adding 11 points in 14 playoff outings.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Sent back to minors

Pilut was reassigned to AHL Rochester on Wednesday.

Pilut's demotion could be an indication that Riley Stillman (upper body) or Mattias Samuelsson (upper body) will be ready to return for Thursday's clash with Dallas. In his last appearance, the 27-year-old Pilut racked up one goal, one assist and one shot despite logging just 13:31 of ice time. Even if Pilut is recalled before Thursday's clash, he will likely serve as a healthy scratch again.

Pilut was recalled by the Sabres on Tuesday.

With Mattias Samuelsson (upper body) and Riley Stillman (upper body) both battling injuries, Pilut will likely be on hand as an extra defenseman Tuesday versus the Islanders. Pilut has picked up three points through 17 contests this campaign.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Is on waivers

Pilut was placed on waivers by Buffalo on Thursday, per CapFriendly.

Pilut has a goal and three points in 17 games while averaging 12:48 of ice time this season. Defensemen Jacob Bryson (lower body) and Owen Power (lower body) are ready to return Thursday versus Detroit, which might be why Buffalo has waived Pilut.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Surprise two-point effort

Pilut scored a goal and added an assist in Monday's 3-2 win over the Golden Knights.

Pilut hasn't shown much of a scoring touch in his NHL career, but he netted the game-winner at 13:28 of the second period Monday. He also assisted on a Jeff Skinner tally. Pilut now has three points in 17 contests this year and nine points in 63 outings overall, and he doesn't add much else in the way of non-scoring production. The 26-year-old appears set to continue as a rotational defensive depth option for the Sabres while Jacob Bryson (lower body), Henri Jokiharju (lower body) and Owen Power (lower body) are all sidelined.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Recalled from AHL

Pilut has been recalled from AHL Rochester on Friday, according to Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News.

Pilut was recalled due to the injuries suffered by Henri Jokiharju (face) and Ilya Lyubushkin (lower body) in Buffalo's last two games. Pilut spent the last two seasons in the KHL before returning to the Sabres. He had two assists in three games with the AHL's Amerks before his recall.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Playing well in return to Sabres

Pilut has been playing well for the Sabres after a couple of seasons in the KHL, Buffalo Hockey Beat reports.

Pilut was poised to be a regular on the Sabres' blue line in 2020 but decided to sign in the KHL when Buffalo would not give him a one-way contract. He returns to the Sabres (on a two-way deal), and while he is likely a depth defenseman heading into the regular season, he has looked very good thus far and could be a veteran presence on the team at the age of 26. He had 11 assists in 40 games with Traktor Chelyabinsk of the KHL last season.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Signs one-year deal

Pilut signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Sabres on Friday.

Pilut spent the entirety of the 2021-22 campaign with the KHL's Traktor Chelyabinsk, picking up 11 assists through 40 contests. Pilut is expected to remain in Russia for the 2022-23 season, so Buffalo presumably signed him to this one-year deal just to retain his NHL rights.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Signs extension with KHL club

Pilut agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL) on Tuesday, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.

Pilut's new deal will keep him in Russia long enough for the Sabres' NHL rights to expire, which means he'll be free to sign with any NHL club beginning with the 2023-24 season. The 25-year-old blueliner has generated five assists in 19 games for his KHL club this year and should be capable of matching the 28-point campaign he put together last year.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Lands KHL deal

Pilut (illness) has signed a contract with Traktor Chelyabinsk of the KHL, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.

Pilut appeared in just 13 games with the Sabres this campaign, going scoreless while posting a minus-4 rating over that span, but he played pretty well in the minors, racking up six goals and 17 assists while registering a plus-4 rating in 37 AHL contests. The 24-year-old blueliner may simply think that the KHL will begin its 2020-21 season before the NHL does, in which case he'd be able to play some high-level games overseas before returning to North America for the start of the NHL campaign. That would, however, require his KHL contract to include an NHL out-clause, and at this point it remains unclear if that's the case. Either way, the Sabres are planning on issuing him a qualifying offer to retain his RFA rights, so they'll get the first crack at signing Pilut if and when he returns to North America.

Pilut (illness) will not play in Monday's game against Washington, Joe Yerdon of The Athletic reports.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Out Saturday

Pilut will miss Saturday's game in Philadelphia because of an illness, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.

Pilut missed practice Friday, so his absence for Saturday's game isn't all that surprising. He's been held pointless in 13 games this season, so Pilut not playing is unlikely to alter fantasy fortunes.

The Sabres recalled Pilut from AHL Rochester on Thursday.

Pilut has logged 11 games with the Sabres this season, though it has yet to net him a point. Those stats can provide some minor fantasy value in certain formats.

  • Sabres' Lawrence Pilut: Returned to AHL

The Sabres reassigned Pilut to AHL Rochester on Friday.

Pilut can't seem to find his footing at the top level, failing to tally a point while registering a minus-4 rating over 11 games with the Sabres this season. In stark contrast, Pilut owns 22 tallies (six goals) and a plus-8 rating with Rochester. Still just 24, the Swede will collect himself in the minors and aim to rejoin the club at a later time.

Rasmus Dahlin (upper body) returned to action Friday against the Rangers, so the Sabres are no longer in need of Pilut's services on the back end. The 24-year-old Swede will return to a featured role with Rochester, where he's racked up 22 points in 30 games this campaign.
