Sharks' Filip Zadina: Agrees to terms with Sharks
Zadina inked a one-year, $1.1 million contract with San Jose on Monday.
Zadina collected 28 goals and 68 points in 190 games with Detroit over the past five seasons prior to having his contract terminated. The 23-year-old forward has failed to live up to expectations since being selected with the No. 6 pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Zadina will get a fresh start with the Sharks, and his offensive upside could make him a solid addition to the roster.

Filip Zadina: Red Wings will terminate contract
Zadina was placed on unconditional waivers by Detroit on Thursday for the purpose of terminating his contract, per Chris Johnston of TSN.
Because this is a contract termination and not a buyout, Detroit will be completely rid of the final two seasons of Zadina's three-year, $5.475 million contract and won't have to deal with any cap penalty. Assuming Zadina goes unclaimed on unconditional waivers, which is likely since he was put on regular waivers Monday and cleared, he will become an unrestricted free agent. The 23-year-old had three goals and seven points in 30 contests while averaging 13:06 of ice time with the Red Wings last season.

Red Wings' Filip Zadina: Goes on waivers
Zadina (lower body) was placed on waivers Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
The move indicates that Zadina, who sat out the final 11 games of the 2022-23 campaign due to a lower-body issue, is healthy again. He produced seven points and 51 shots on goal in 30 appearances with Detroit last season. Zadina still has another two years left on his contract, carrying a $1.825 million cap hit.

Red Wings' Filip Zadina: Breakout campaign remains elusive
Zadina missed the final 11 games of the season with a lower-body injury, finishing with three goals and four assists through 30 games.
Ansar Khan of MLive.com suggests the young winger "might have trouble cracking the lineup next season," also relaying from GM Steve Yzerman that Detroit will seek more offense by looking at options in free agency. Zadina is just 23 years old, but he's produced only 28 goals and 40 assists through 190 career games; the Wings, their fan base, and fantasy managers alike expected much more from him after he was taken sixth overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Red Wings' Filip Zadina: Facing season-ending absence
Zadina (lower body) won't play against Pittsburgh on Tuesday and may be shut down for the rest of the season, Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports.
Zadina has been limited to a meager 30 games this season due to injuries. Even when healthy, the 23-year-old winger has struggled offensively with just three goals and four assists, his lowest total since 2018-19 when he played in just nine games. Selected by the Wings with the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, Zadina has yet to live up to expectations with just 28 goals in 190 contests, well behind contemporaries Andrei Svechnikov (112) and Brady Tkachuk (124).

Red Wings' Filip Zadina: Brushes twine in return
Zadina lit the lamp Thursda, en route to a 4-1 win over the Rangers.
Zadina was back at it after being scratched from Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Capitals; he's crafted a three-game point streak comprised of a goal and two assists, but the Wings' sixth-overall draft pick from 2018 is averaging just 12:51 of ice time which casts doubt that his latest offensive run is sustainable. Zadina has two goals and another pair of assists through 16 games this season.

Red Wings' Filip Zadina: Finds success versus Calgary
Zadina's assist in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Flames marked his second point in five games since returning from a leg injury and a corresponding conditioning stint.
Zadina has just two points through 14 games this season, but each one -- including a Feb. 9 game-winning goal -- took place against the Flames. Meanwhile, the Red Wings returned Jakub Vrana to the active roster, which makes him a reasonable candidate to fill in for Zadina should the latter struggle to build momentum while Lucas Raymond (lower body) remains on injured reserve.

Zadina scored the game-winning goal in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Flames.
Zadina's first goal of the season was a big one, giving Detroit a 2-1 lead in the third period. It was Zadina's first game with the Red Wings in over three months after he suffered a broken leg on Nov. 5. The 23-year-old winger posted 10 goals and 14 assists in 74 games last season. While Zadina does offer some long-term upside, he'll likely be limited this season in a fourth-line role.

Zadina will be a healthy scratch Friday, coach Derek Lalonde said, per Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News.
This is no surprise as Zadina has been an extra at practice. The sixth overall pick in 2018 has been a disappointment in his brief career with 25 goals and 36 assists in 160 NHL games.
