  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Sent down after finale

Sogaard was reassigned to AHL Belleville following his 32-save performance in Thursday's overtime loss to the Sabres. Sogaard will close out the campaign with the Senators' AHL affiliate. He went 8-6-3 with a 3.32 GAA and an .889 save percentage over 19 NHL appearances this season. The 22-year-old could contend for a full-time NHL job in 2023-24.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Starting season finale

Sogaard will defend the road cage against the Sabres on Thursday, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. Sogaard has appeared in 18 games for the Senators this season in which he posted an 8-6-2 record, 3.29 GAA and .889 save percentage. The fact that the Sens are giving this last game of the season to Sogaard would seem to indicate that Cam Talbot won't be re-signed ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, which could open the door for Sogaard to be the No. 1 option.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Stops 27 in win

Sogaard allowed two goals on 29 shots in Monday's 3-2 win over Carolina. Sogaard was sharp Monday, stopping 27 of 29 shots in a winning effort. It's the first win for Sogaard since March 27, as he's dropped to a backup role since Cam Talbot's return from injury. The 22-year-old Sogaard improves to 8-6-2 with an .889 save percentage on the season through 18 appearances.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Tending twine Monday

Sogaard will guard the home goal Monday versus the Hurricanes, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. Sogaard has a 7-6-2 record this season with a 3.37 GAA and an .887 save percentage in 17 appearances. Carolina sits 17th in the league this campaign with 3.16 goals per game.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Needed in relief Thursday

Sogaard turned aside 14 of 18 shots after replacing Leevi Merilainen early in the second period of Thursday's 7-2 loss to the Panthers. Neither netminder had much luck slowing down Florida's offense, and Ottawa was officially eliminated from the playoffs in the process. Sogaard's 3.37 GAA and .887 save percentage on the season aren't impressive, but the 22-year-old could split the workload over the Senators' final three games with the 20-year-old Merilainen as the team looks to the future.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Back at practice

Sogaard (illness) returned to practice Wednesday and should be available against the Panthers on Thursday, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. The team hasn't named a starter for Thursday's tilt but Sogaard should at least be in contention. With just four games remaining, the 22-year-old Dane probably shouldn't expect to see a ton of starts and could end the year having posted a 7-6-2 record and 3.24 GAA in 16 appearances. With Cam Talbot headed for free agency, Sogaard could be in competition for the starting job heading into the 2023-24 campaign.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Leaves game

Sogaard wasn't feeling well and left Saturday's game versus the Maple Leafs, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. Sogaard allowed three goals on 16 shots over the first two periods. He won't travel to Columbus on Sunday, but it's possible the netminder could link up with the Senators later in the trip, which includes stops in Carolina on Tuesday and Florida on Thursday. Cam Talbot relieved Sogaard and will likely start against the Blue Jackets.

Sogaard is expected to start at home against Toronto on Saturday, per Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun. Sogaard has been great recently, posting a 2-1-0 record, 2.02 GAA and .939 save percentage over his last three outings. Through 15 contests this season, he's 7-5-2 with a 3.18 GAA and an .894 save percentage. Toronto is tied for the eighth-ranked offense with 3.41 goals per game in 2022-23.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Stops 32 in win

Sogaard stopped 32 of 34 shots in Monday's 5-2 win over the Panthers. Sogaard was solid Monday, allowing just a pair of goals to Gustav Forsling en route to a 5-2 victory. Sogaard has played better of late, winning two of his last three starts with a .939 save percentage in that span. The Danish netminder improves to 7-5-2 with an .894 save percentage on the season. Sogaard should see the majority of starts until Cam Talbot (lower body) is ready to return.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Pucks like beach balls in win

Sogard made 27 saves in a 7-2 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday. The 22-year-old was dialled-in, in an 'I'm seeing a beach ball' kind of way. Sogaard has struggled in March (1-5-1), but has started to cut down on goals allowed in his last two games. He gave up just two goals to each of the Bolts and Bruins, and could be poised to help the Sens continue to track down the Penguins for the last wild card spot. The team is just five points behind.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Comes up short against Boston

Sogaard made 33 saves in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Bruins. All the scoring came in the first period, and while Sogaard was sharp over the final 40 minutes, Linus Ullmark was just a little bit better on the night. Sogaard had given up at least four goals in six straight starts, so this was a strong bounce-back performance, but he still sports a 3.38 GAA and .8878 save percentage through 13 appearances this season.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Slated to face Bruins

Sogaard will defend the road net Tuesday against Boston, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. Sogaard is coming off a 25-save effort in Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to Toronto. He has a 5-4-2 record this season with a 3.49 GAA and an .881 save percentage in 12 appearances. Boston ranks second in the league this campaign with 3.78 goals per game. Sogaard will get the second half of Ottawa's back-to-back after Dylan Ferguson played in Monday's 2-1 win over Pittsburgh. Ferguson (illness) won't be in the lineup Tuesday, so Ottawa has recalled Kevin Mandolese from AHL Belleville to be Sogaard's backup.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Winless in four straight

Sogard made 25 saves in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Maple Leafs on Saturday. Matt Murray was actually much busier at the other end of the ice, making 48 saves. But Sogard was solid when he needed to be. And he was especially sharp in the shootout where his size and focus helped push it to nine rounds. Sogard is now winless in his last four starts (0-3-1) and has allowed 18 goals. Keep him benched -- his kind of goals allowed could sink your squad.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Starting again Saturday

Sogaard will guard the home net Saturday against the Maple Leafs, per TSN 1200 Ottawa. Sogaard has struggled lately while filling in for Cam Talbot (lower body), going 1-4-0 in his last five starts with an .841 save percentage. He'll face a Toronto team that scored five goals Friday in a win over Carolina. The 22-year-old Sogaard is 5-4-1 with an .883 save percentage on the season.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: A bit too porous again

Sogaard made 25 saves in a 5-4 loss to Colorado on Thursday. The 6-foot-7 blocker has started five of the Sens' last six games. He's 1-4-0 in that span, and his teammates have managed just 13 goals in those five games. Sogaard has allowed 25 goals in the same span. Cam Talbot (lower body) is still a couple weeks away and Anton Forsberg (knee) is done for the season, so Sogaard is the Sens' top netminder. You should avoid him with so many goals getting past him.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Facing Avalanche

Sogaard will guard the home goal Thursday versus the Avalanche, per TSN 1200 Ottawa. Sogaard has lost three of his last four games, permitting 18 goals over that span. It's not likely to get easier for him Thursday against a dynamic Avalanche offense.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Struggles continue Tuesday

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Starting in Edmonton

Sogaard will guard the road goal Tuesday versus Edmonton, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports. Sogaard surrendered four goals on 29 shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to Vancouver. He has a 5-2-1 record this season with a 3.07 GAA and an .894 save percentage in nine appearances with Ottawa. The Oilers rank first in the league this campaign with 3.85 goals per game.

  • Senators' Mads Sogaard: Unsteady in loss

Sogaard allowed four goals on 29 shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Canucks. The fifth goal was an empty-netter. Sogaard is starting to show some cracks after a strong start to his campaign. He's allowed 13 goals over his last three games, going 1-2-0 in that span. For the season, the 22-year-old is down to 5-2-1 with a 3.07 GAA and an .894 save percentage through nine appearances. There's no help on the way with Cam Talbot (lower body) out until nearly the end of the month, so it'll be on Sogaard to turn things around again. Kevin Mandolese will likely get the nod Sunday in Calgary.
