  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Sent to AHL

Knight (personal) was loaned to AHL Charlotte on Friday.

Knight had a tough go of it last season and entered the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program in March to receive help with managing obsessive compulsive disorder. Knight should get plenty of playing time in the minors, and it wouldn't be surprising if he is eventually called up to compete for the No. 1 goaltending job with the Panthers.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Preparing for upcoming season

Knight (personal) is training in South Florida in preparation for the 2023-24 campaign, David Dwork of Local 10 Miami reports.

Knight entered the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program in March to receive help with managing obsessive compulsive disorder. While the Panthers made it to the Stanley Cup Final without him, Knight will look to reclaim his place as a part of a goaltending tandem with Sergei Bobrovsky. The Panthers also signed Anthony Stolarz this offseason, so there's no guarantee Knight begins 2023-24 in the NHL unless the team carries three netminders. Given his talent and upside, Knight could still win the backup job outright.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Out indefinitely

Knight is out indefinitely as he is in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports.

It's been a tough season for Knight who was expected to at least share the Florida goaltending duties alongside Sergei Bobrovsky. Knight was sent to AHL Charlotte over a week ago after a 9-8-3 record with the big club in 21 appearances. He has a 3.18 GAA and .901 save percentage in the NHL this season, but he didn't play for the Checkers after he was sent down nine days ago. His demotion to AHL Charlotte has been canceled.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Heads to AHL

Knight was reassigned to AHL Charlotte on Wednesday.

Knight has a 9-8-3 record, 3.18 GAA and .901 save percentage in 21 games with the Panthers in 2022-23. He also has a 2.01 GAA and a .918 save percentage in two contests with Charlotte this season. The Panthers have been leaning on Sergei Bobrovsky recently, and Knight has struggled, posting a 4.76 GAA and an .829 save percentage in his last two outings, so this will give him a chance to work things out in the minors. Alex Lyon was summoned by Florida in a corresponding move.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Needed in relief Saturday

Knight stopped 12 of 14 shots after replacing Sergei Bobrovsky midway through the second period of Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Predators.

Bobrovsky took the loss, but Knight wasn't a whole lot sharper, and neither goalie got much help from their defense. Knight has allowed seven goals on 41 shots over two appearances since returning from an upper-body injury, and he'll likely remain behind Bobrovsky in the pecking order until he begins to string together some solid performances.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Struggles against St. Louis

Knight stopped 22 of 27 shots in a 6-2 loss to St. Louis on Tuesday.

Knight surrendered at least a goal in each period, including two markers on seven shots in the third frame. St. Louis' final goal was scored on an empty net. The 21-year-old goaltender fell to 9-8-3 with a 3.16 GAA and a .902 save percentage in 20 games with Florida this season. Knight, who had a stint with AHL Charlotte that ended Jan. 23 and then suffered an upper-body injury, was playing for the Panthers for the first time since Jan. 8. He has a 2.01 GAA and a .918 save percentage in his two games with Charlotte.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: In goal versus Blues

Knight will guard the road goal versus the Blues on Tuesday, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.

Knight will make his first appearance since Jan. 8 in this contest after dealing with a couple of injuries and a conditioning stint with AHL Charlotte. He'll work the second half of a back-to-back Tuesday, though the Blues' offense isn't overly threatening. In Knight's absence, Sergei Bobrovsky has played well, so the former may have a tough time getting regular starts going forward.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Suiting up Monday

Knight (upper body) will dress as the backup goalie in Monday's home contest against Tampa Bay, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.

Knight had been unavailable to suit up following his recall from AHL Charlotte on Jan. 23. He will return to the lineup Monday along with Sergei Bobrovsky, who will be back in the crease following a five-game absence due to a lower-body injury.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Practices Sunday

Knight (upper body) practiced Sunday but it's unclear if he'll suit up against the Lightning on Monday, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.

Between an injury and a brief demotion, Knight hasn't seen any NHL action since Jan. 8. The 21-year-old is 9-7-3 with a 3.06 GAA in 19 appearances with the Panthers this season. Once healthy, he could go back to splitting time with Sergei Bobrovsky (lower body).

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Dealing with upper-body injury

Knight is being held out of the lineup Saturday against Boston with an upper-body injury, George Richards of Florida Hockey Now reports.

Knight and Sergei Bobrovsky (lower body) won't be in the lineup for Saturday's clash with Boston, so Alex Lyon will start another game and Mack Guzda will serve as the backup goaltender. The Panthers might get Knight and/or Bobrovsky back after the All-Star break. The team returns to action Feb. 6 against Tampa Bay following Saturday's contest.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Not expected to dress

Knight (not injury related) isn't expected to dress for Friday's game versus the Kings, NHL.com reports.

Knight returned to practice Thursday after being recalled from the minors Monday, but the Panthers evidently still don't feel that the 21-year-old netminder is ready for game action from a conditioning standpoint. Knight hasn't played since Jan. 8 versus the Stars.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Recalled from AHL

Knight was called up from AHL Charlotte on Monday, David Dwork of Local 10 Miami reports.

In a corresponding move, Mack Guzda was returned to the minors. Knight posted a 1-1-0 record with a 2.01 GAA and a .918 save percentage in two appearances with the Checkers over the weekend. He could return to the crease for the Panthers on Tuesday against Pittsburgh for the first time since Jan. 8. Knight had been out of action due to an undisclosed injury prior to being sent down to the AHL.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Moved to AHL

Knight (undisclosed) was reassigned to AHL Charlotte on Friday.

Knight was on the injured reserve list just prior to this move. He last played Jan. 8, so sending him to the minors is a chance to let him shake off the rust before he resumes playing for the Panthers. In that regard, this could be looked at as a conditioning stint even though the Panthers aren't using that destination. The 21-year-old has a 9-7-3 record, 3.06 GAA and .906 save percentage in 19 games with Florida this season.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Surfaces on IR

Knight (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, per the NHL media site.

The Panthers have yet to release any details regarding the specific nature of Knight's injury, but now that he's on IR, he'll miss the team's next three games at a minimum. Sergei Bobrovsky and Alex Lyon will operate as Florida's top two netminders until Knight, who's gone 9-12-1 while posting a 3.26 GAA and an .895 save percentage this season, is cleared to return.

  • Panthers' Spencer Knight: Falls to Stars

Knight stopped 29 of 33 shots in Sunday's 5-1 loss to Dallas.

The Stars' final goal was scored into an empty net. Knight had little chance on any of the four shots that beat him, two of which came on near-breakaways from the blue line and one on a Dallas power play. The 21-year-old netminder is 3-4-0 since the beginning of December and has given up at least three goals in five straight starts, leaving him with a 3.05 GAA and .906 save percentage on the season.
