Avalanche's Justus Annunen: Plays full game Tuesday
Annunen stopped 27 of 29 shots in Tuesday's 3-1 preseason loss to Dallas.
Annunen, who made his fourth appearance in five preseason games, played his second full game. The Avalanche are giving him a lot of exposure, as the club is expected to be without projected backup goalie Pavel Francouz (groin) to start the regular season. Colorado head coach Jared Bednar will decide if Annunen, who has a .915 save percentage during preseason action, has done enough to earn the backup job goining into the regular season.

As it stands now, Annunen is Colorado's backup goalie, as Pavel Francouz (groin) is unavailable and on injured reserve. It's unclear if Annunen, who has played four NHL games, will enter the regular season as the No. 2. A few factors are at play, including how much time the team expects Francouz to miss, what more established NHL veterans become available and how the young Finnish goalie performs during the preseason. Annunen has appeared in all three preseason games thus far, allowing five goals while facing 54 shots.

Annunen surrendered three goals in each of the first and second periods. The Devils' final marker was scored on an empty net. Annunen was making his second NHL start of the season after stopping 19 of 20 shots in a 4-1 win over St. Louis on Feb. 18. He also has a 2.53 GAA and a .913 save percentage in 29 AHL games with the Eagles in 2022-23.

Avalanche's Justus Annunen: First goalie off Wednesday
Annunen was the first goalie to leave the ice Wednesday, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports, indicating he'll be between the pipes versus the Devils at home.
Annunen stopped 19 of 20 shots in his only other appearance this season, a win over the Blues on Feb. 18. With a back-to-back coming up against Dallas and Seattle on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, Annunen will likely feature in two of the next three contests.
