Cooley was put on waivers Saturday for the purposes of loaning him to AHL Rochester.
The 26-year-old netminder has yet to play in the NHL. Cooley signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Sabres in the offseason after going 15-8-2 with a 2.93 GAA and .909 save percentage for AHL Milwaukee last season.

Sabres' Dustin Tokarski: Waived by Sabres
Tokarski was placed on waivers Saturday.
Tokarksi managed to see action in four NHL games last season with the Sabres, going 1-2-0 with a 3.44 GAA and .897 save percentage. Tokarski inked a two-way contract with Buffalo in the offseason, and if he passes through waivers, he will end up in AHL Rochester this season.

Sabres' Matthew Savoie: Set to practice next week
Savoie (shoulder) is expected to practice next week, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
The 19-year-old was injured during a prospects game earlier in the month, but he remains on track to get back to practicing with the Sabres. Savoie is expected to spend the bulk of 2023-24 with WHL Wenatchee if he doesn't make the Sabres out of camp.

Sabres' Mattias Samuelsson: Clear for camp
Samuelsson (hand/knee) was on the ice Thursday for Buffalo's first practice of training camp, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Samuelsson played through a broken hand and a sprained MCL prior to sitting out the final two games of the 2022-23 season. In 55 appearances last campaign, the 23-year-old blueliner earned 10 points, 76 shots on goal, 91 blocked shots and 107 hits. He is expected to be ready for the start of 2023-24.

Sabres' Henri Jokiharju: Good to go
Jokiharju (lower body) participated in practice Thursday after being injured in Buffalo's regular-season finale last season, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Jokiharju skated with the second group and was paired with Owen Power during the Sabres' first practice of training camp. In 60 games last season, the 24-year-old Jokiharju registered 13 points, 79 shots on goal, 58 blocked shots and 63 hits.

Sabres' Jack Quinn: Not close to returning
Quinn (Achilles) is making progress in his recovery, but he isn't close to returning, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Sabres GM Kevyn Adams cautioned that even after Quinn is cleared to resume skating, the 22-year-old forward will still need to put in a lot of work before he's ready to play. Quinn recorded 14 goals and 37 points in 75 contests last season. He might draw into a middle-six role once he's healthy.

Savoie (shoulder) is week-to-week, but he might return before the end of training camp, according to Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News.
Savoie injured his left shoulder during Buffalo's prospects game Monday. He had 38 goals and 95 points in 62 contests with WHL Winnipeg last season. Buffalo selected Savoie with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

Sabres' Matthew Savoie: Sustains shoulder injury
Savoie suffered a shoulder injury in Buffalo's prospects game Monday versus Pittsburgh, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Savoie is expected to miss at least some of training camp, which would put his chances of making the NHL roster in jeopardy. The 19-year-old had 95 points in 62 games with WHL Winnipeg last season, and if he doesn't make the Sabres' roster out of camp, he'll be assigned back to the junior franchise, which relocated to Wenatchee, Washington in the offseason. Savoie does not have an exception to jump immediately to the AHL.

Ostlund was loaned by Buffalo to the Swedish league's Vaxjo on Wednesday.
Ostlund had eight goals and 26 points in 37 contests in 2022-23 with Djurgardens of HockeyAllsvenskan, which is Sweden's second-tier professional league. Buffalo selected him with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.

Benson signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Buffalo on Friday.
The diminutive forward was selected 13th overall in the first round of the 2023 Draft. Benson had 32 goals and 98 points in 60 games with WHL Winnipeg in 2022-23. Benson is projected to be a top-six forward in the NHL, but that could take a few years. Look for Benson to return to the WHL for the 2023-24 season.

Wahlberg was chosen 39th overall in the 2023 Draft. The 18-year-old had a pair of goals and two assists in 17 games with Malmo of the Swedish League last season. The center also chipped in with three goals and six points in seven games at the U18 World Championship in the spring. Wahlberg likely won't light up the scoresheet at the NHL level, but he has the potential to carve out a role as a bottom-sixer.
