Mauldin has a herniated disc in his back and is expected to require season-ending surgery, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
The Jets had already placed Mauldin on injured reserve prior to the season, so he won't be eligible to return until after Week 8 regardless if surgery is necessary or not. Mauldin will receive a second opinion before reaching a determination on treatment for his back, but it doesn't appear promising that he'll suit up at any point in 2017.
