  • Angels' Mike Trout: Won't return to Cactus League play

Trout will not play in the Angels' remaining Cactus League games but will participate in the Freeway Series against the Dodgers before the start of the regular season, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Trout won't get any action in Arizona after returning from his time with Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. He officially ended the tournament by striking out against Angels teammate Shohei Ohtani in the championship game, but he did play well in the WBC with a .296/.406/.556 slash line. Trout should have his timing at the plate down by this point in spring, and another stellar season is expected as long as he can maintain reasonably good health.

  • Angels' Mike Trout: Playing well for Team USA

Trout is slashing .318/.444/.591 with a home run, a double, a triple, seven RBI, four runs and a stolen base in six games with Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Though Trea Turner has absorbed much of the spotlight for a United States team that will be playing in the WBC final Tuesday, Trout has been a major part of the offense as well, ranking second on the team with seven RBI. After missing over 40 games with a back injury last year, the future Hall of Famer appears fully healthy this spring, as he's one of four players on Team USA who has played in all six tournament contests thus far. Trout is still one of the best hitters in baseball, so he's pretty much guaranteed to be an elite offensive producer as long as he remains healthy.

  • Angels' Mike Trout: Back a 'non-issue'

Trout told Sam Blum of The Athletic on Friday that his back has been a "non-issue" for four months. Trout missed time last season with a rare back condition called costovertebral dysfunction, which is a chronic injury. However, he showed no ill effects after returning, posting a 1.056 OPS with 16 home runs over 40 games down the stretch. The back problem remains a long-term concern and Trout has been an injury risk in recent years even beyond the back issue. However, it has not affected his offseason work and he's on track to enter spring training healthy.

Though Trout again missed time due to injury this season, he ended the campaign with a very impressive .283/.369/.630 line across 499 plate appearances.

  • Angels' Mike Trout: Day-to-day with sore foot

Trout will sit Saturday against the Rangers due to a sore foot, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports. Trout's performance has been as strong as ever this season, but injuries have limited him to 115 games. His latest issue, which developed after he fouled a ball off his foot Friday, doesn't seem to be particularly serious, but the Angels have no incentive to push things at the end of a lost season. Taylor Ward will slide to center field Saturday, with Luis Rengifo moving out to right.
