Zac Rosscup: Let go by Houston
The Astros released Rosscup from his minor-league contract Sunday.
Rosscup made all but one of his 27 appearances this season at Triple-A Sugar Land, producing a 3.10 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 35:17 K:BB in 29 innings. The 34-year-old lefty should be able to find work in another organization, though he'll almost certainly have to settle for another minor-league deal.

Astros' Zac Rosscup: Won't make Opening Day roster
Manager Dusty Baker said Sunday that Rosscup won't be included in the Astros' Opening Day bullpen, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Expect the Astros to formally reassign Rosscup to Triple-A Sugar Land within the next day or two. Rosscup was attending big-league camp as a non-roster invitee after he most recently spent the 2021 campaign in Colorado. He saw the majority of his action at the Triple-A level but made three relief appearances with the big club, giving up an earned run on three hits and a walk across three innings.

Astros' Zac Rosscup: Joining Astros' camp
Rosscup signed with the Astros as a non-roster invitee Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
The veteran lefty owns a 5.09 ERA in 86.2 career major-league innings, with his 14.0 percent walk rate offsetting a 29.3 percent strikeout rate. He's only thrown three innings at the highest level over the last two seasons, so he's a long shot to play a significant role in 2022.

Rosscup returned to the Rockies in August of 2020, and he'll join the major-league bullpen as a replacement after several pitchers were placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday. Previous reports suggested that Rosscup had accepted his outright assignment to the minors, but he's evidently made a different decision. He may still be looking at a minor-league contract for his next opportunity, as his 4.80 ERA in 15 innings this season has come with a 20.8 percent walk rate and a 2.13 WHIP.

Rosscup, who allowed an earned run on two hits and a wild pitch while also recording two strikeouts over an inning against the Twins on Thursday, owns a 2-0 record, five holds, a 3.21 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP across 14 innings this season.
The veteran southpaw's WHIP leaves plenty to be desired, but Rosscup has largely limited the potential damage from his control issues by yielding just one home run thus far. Prior to May, Rosscup had mostly been used in matchup-based situations that saw him work under an inning in 11 of 14 outings, but he's now logged one full frame in four of his first five trips to the mound during the month.
