Marlins' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Pushed off 40-man roster
Gonzalez was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Wednesday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for the official arrival of Matt Moore, who was claimed off waivers from the Guardians on Tuesday. Marlins' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Rejoins big club
The Marlins selected Gonzalez's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
The 31-year-old was outrighted to Triple-A by Miami in mid-May but will rejoin the major-league roster despite posting a 6.65 ERA for Jacksonville since being demoted. Gonzelez worked as a starter at Triple-A and should be a long-relief option for the Marlins.... See More ... See Less

Gonzalez was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Friday and went unclaimed. The right-hander will provide organizational depth in Triple-A, but he'll need to be added to the 40-man roster in order to receive a promotion to Miami during the 2023 campaign.... See More ... See Less

Chi Chi Gonzalez: Hits open market
Gonzalez elected free agency Monday.
Gonzalez was one of several veteran minor-leaguers who chose to head to the open market after the Yankees' season came to an end Sunday, when New York lost to Houston in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. The Yankees outrighted Gonzalez off their 40-man roster after the 30-year-old made one appearance for the big club. He covered 23 innings in total in the majors in 2022 across stops with the Yankees, Twins and Brewers, pitching to a 5.87 ERA and 1.52 WHIP.... See More ... See Less
Yankees' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Outrighted to Triple-A
Gonzalez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
Gonzalez lost his spot on the Yankees' 40-man roster after joining the major-league club last weekend, but he'll remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. The right-hander made seven appearances (five starts) between the Brewers, Twins and Yankees this year and posted a 5.87 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 23 innings. It seems unlikely that he'll factor into the Yankees' postseason plans as long as the team's pitching staff remains relatively healthy.... See More ... See Less
Yankees' Chi Chi Gonzalez: DFA'd after spot start
The Yankees designated Gonzalez for assignment Monday.
Gonzalez was never expected to stick on the Yankees' 40-man roster and 28-man active roster for long after he was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre over the weekend to allow the big club to give an extra day of rest to its other starting pitchers ahead of the postseason. In his Yankees debut Sunday, Gonzalez made a spot start and took a no-decision against the Orioles while allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks across 4.2 innings.... See More ... Yankees' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Yields one run in no-decision
Gonzalez allowed one run on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings against the Orioles on Sunday. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
Gonzalez would've been handed a loss if the Yankees hadn't briefly tied the game in the fifth inning. He served up an RBI double to Ryan Mountcastle in the first inning but settled in after that. It was Gonzalez's longest MLB outing this season and he lowered his ERA to 5.87 through seven appearances. Sunday was likely his final outing of the 2022 campaign.... See More ... See Less
Yankees' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Added to roster, starting Sunday
Gonzalez's contract was selected from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of his start Sunday against the Orioles.
Gonzalez logged a 3.63 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 22.1 innings over five starts after joining the Yankees' Triple-A affiliate. The journeyman righty made six appearances (four starts) in the majors earlier this season with the Twins and Brewers and never went deeper than four innings, so he is unlikely to qualify for the win Sunday.... Yankees' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Slated to start Sunday
Gonzalez will be called up by the Yankees to start Sunday's game against the Orioles, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
The status of Sunday's series finale against Baltimore is somewhat up in the air due to inclement weather predicted for the Bronx, but Gonzalez will draw the start if the game takes place. After making big-league appearances with the Twins and Brewers earlier in the year, the right-hander joined the Yankees on a minor-league deal at the end of August and posted a 3.63 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 22.1 innings over five starts at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.... Yankees' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Catches on with Yanks
Gonzalez and the Yankees came to terms Tuesday on a minor-league contract, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Gonzalez will move on to his fourth different organization of the season after stops with the Twins, Brewers and Tigers. His lone big-league action came with the first two clubs, with Gonzalez producing a 6.87 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 18.1 innings. The 30-year-old right-hander will presumably report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and will restore some depth to the affiliate's rotation after the Yankees moved Hayden Wesneski, JP Sears and Ken Waldichuk prior to the Aug. 2 trade deadline.... Tigers' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Agrees to deal with Tigers
Gonzalez signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Tuesday.
Gonzalez had been a free agent since declining an assignment to Triple-A by the Brewers earlier this month, but he was able to land a spot with another squad. While he will open his Tigers tenure in the minors, he could see big-league time at some point before the season comes to a close.... See More ... See Less
Chi Chi Gonzalez: Elects free agency
Gonzalez elected free agency after clearing waivers Saturday.
Gonzalez has thrown 18.1 innings this season between brief stints for the Twins and Brewers, struggling to a 6.87 ERA and 15.2 percent strikeout rate. Those numbers aren't too far from his career 5.72 ERA and 13.5 percent strikeout rate over parts of six major-league seasons, so he'll likely be stuck searching for a minor-league deal on the open market.... Brewers' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Loses 40-man roster spot
The Brewers designated Gonzalez for assignment Tuesday.
Since Gonzalez doesn't have minor-league options remaining, he'll come off both the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster with the Brewers needing to clear room on the latter roster for outfielder Hunter Renfroe (calf), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. After being claimed off waivers from the Twins on June 14, Gonzalez made four appearances (two starts) for Milwaukee, giving up eight earned runs on 12 hits and four walks over 11.1 innings.... Brewers' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Moves to bullpen
Gonzalez struck out two and allowed two hits and no walks over three scoreless innings of long relief in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Pirates.
Gonzalez had started in his first two appearances with Milwaukee following his June 20 addition to the 26-man active roster, but with both Aaron Ashby and Brandon Woodruff having returned from the injured list in recent days, the team no longer has a spot available in the rotation for the journeyman right-hander. Though Adrian Houser (elbow) was moved to the IL the same day Ashby was reinstated, the Brewers will turn to Jason Alexander to replace Houser as the team's fifth starter in Tuesday's game against the Cubs. Gonzalez will likely serve as a lower-leverage long-relief option while he remains up with the big club.... See More ... See Less
