O'Grady cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso on Friday. O'Grady filled a minor role as a depth outfielder this season but didn't acquit himself well, hitting .157/.267/.333 in 61 plate appearances. Heading into his age-30 season, it's no surprise to see him fail to get claimed off waivers given that he's yet to find success at the major-league level.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Brian O'Grady: Headed back to Triple-A
The Padres optioned O'Grady to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, Bob Scanlan of Bally Sports San Diego reports. O'Grady's latest stint with the big club lasted just over a week, with the 29-year-old appearing in four games and going 0-for-6 at the dish. San Diego brought back superstar Fernando Tatis (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Called up Friday
O'Grady was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Friday. O'Grady will serve as outfield depth for the major-league club after Jurickson Profar (undisclosed) was placed on the injured list. The 29-year-old O'Grady has appeared in 28 games for the Padres this year, and he's hit .178 with two homers, eight runs and eight RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Sent to Triple-A
O'Grady was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. O'Grady has been up in the majors since July 10 and went 2-for-8 with a home run, two walks, three RBI and two runs in eight appearances. Trade acquisition Adam Frazier was added to the 26-man roster in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Slugs second homer
O'Grady hit a solo home run in his only plate appearance during Sunday's loss to the Marlins. With San Diego trailing 9-2 and down to its final out, O'Grady provided a brief delay of the inevitable with a solo shot to right field. The long ball was his second of the campaign. O'Grady has slashed an impressive .314/.387/.628 in the minors this season but has been mostly unproductive with the big club, batting .178 with a 27.3 percent strikeout rate.... See More ... Padres' Brian O'Grady: Back in big leagues
O'Grady was recalled by the Padres on Saturday. O'Grady has bounced on and off the fringe of the active roster throughout the year. He's done very little with his limited opportunities, hitting .167/.279/.333 in 44 trips to the plate. Reiss Knehr was optioned in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Returns to minors
O'Grady was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday. O'Grady had been occupying Trent Grisham's roster spot while the latter was on the injured list with a bruised heel, but O'Grady will now head back to the minors in conjunction with Grisham's activation. In 44 plate appearances with the Padres, O'Grady has slashed .167/.279/.333 with a home run and five RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Stars in Monday's win
O'Grady went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an RBI double and a walk Monday in the Padres' 9-4 win over the Cubs. Called up from Triple-A El Paso earlier in the day, O'Grady stepped into the starting nine in place of a resting Wil Myers and didn't take long to make an impact. O'Grady gave the Padres a four-run lead when he slugged a 407-foot blast off Adbert Alzolay in the third inning, and he later added another run-scoring extra-base hit in the bottom of the eighth for good measure. Despite the stellar showing Monday, O'Grady doesn't look like he'll be in line for regular playing time in the San Diego outfield with Myers, Tommy Pham and Jurickson Profar all healthy and with Trent Grisham (heel) likely to return from the injured list later this week.... Padres' Brian O'Grady: Returns to majors
O'Grady was recalled by the Padres on Monday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. O'Grady has bounced on and off the active roster throughout the season and is now on his fourth separate stint in the big leagues this year. He hasn't hit nearly well enough to stick around, posting a .115/.250/.192 slash line in 33 plate appearances, but he'll get the start in right field Monday against the Cubs, with Wil Myers getting the night off. Tucupita Marcano was optioned in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Sent down Friday
O'Grady was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. O'Grady was called up by the Padres on Monday and went 1-for-6 with a double, a run and four strikeouts during his time with the major-league club. Left-hander Nick Ramirez was recalled by the Padres as part of a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Back in big leagues
O'Grady was recalled by the Padres on Monday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Hopefully O'Grady didn't make it far after being optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, as he'll turn around and head straight back to the big-league roster a day later. The Padres need an extra outfielder with Trent Grisham (heel) landing on the injured list in a corresponding move. O'Grady has gotten into 11 games while bouncing on and off the active roster this season but has done very little with his limited at-bats, hitting .100/.269/.150.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Returns to minors
The Padres optioned O'Grady to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday. O'Grady was shipped back to the minors to make room on the 26-man active roster for Wil Myers, who was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list. During his week-and-a-half-long stint with the big club, O'Grady appeared in 10 games and went 2-for-19 with a double, five walks, four runs and two RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Not starting Sunday
O'Grady is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals. O'Grady started three of four games since being promoted Tuesday, but he'll take seat for Sunday's series finale. Patrick Kivlehan will work in right field for the Friars.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Recalled, starting in Game 1
The Padres recalled O'Grady from Triple-A El Paso ahead of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Rockies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. He'll start in right field and bat seventh in the opening game of the twin bill. O'Grady was one of the hitters San Diego elected to bring up from the minors after five position players were placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday. Three of the players in question are Wil Myers, Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo, all of whom have been factors at the corner-outfield spots this season. O'Grady could be in store for a near-everyday role in the short term until the Padres get some reinforcements in the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Optioned to alternate site
O'Grady was optioned to the alternate training site Friday. The 28-year-old was recalled from the alternate training site earlier this week when Fernando Tatis (shoulder) was placed on the injured list, and he'll now return to the alternate site with Trent Grisham (hamstring) being activated. O'Grady went 0-for-1 in his lone appearance as a pinch hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Sent to alternate site
The Padres optioned O'Grady to their alternate training site Monday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. O'Grady was informed that he missed out on the Opening Day roster after Jorge Mateo and Tucupita Marcano secured the final two bench roles that were up for grabs. The 28-year-old made a spirited bid for a reserve job this spring, posting an .843 OPS while going 2-for-3 on stolen-base attempts over 44 Cactus League at-bats.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Goes deep twice Monday
O'Grady went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, four RBI and two walks Monday in a Cactus League contest versus Milwaukee. O'Grady is competing for a reserve role this spring, and he badly needed Monday's breakthrough performance with Jorge Mateo -- one of his primary challengers -- hitting well so far. Mateo may still have a leg up considering that he is out of minor-league options (O'Grady is not), but the latter can make a push if he can carry his effort Monday forward.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Brian O'Grady: Vying for backup CF role
O'Grady will compete for the backup center field job during spring training, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Manager Jayce Tingler mentioned a few Padres players who are likely to see time in center in spring, and O'Grady's experience at the position in the minors would seem to make him a feasible choice to claim the backup CF role if he's able to impress during spring training. However, the 29-year-old has thus far not done much with his big-league opportunities, so it remains to be seen how much playing time he'll get on a San Diego squad that is considered a World Series contender.... Rays' Brian O'Grady: Designated for assignment
O'Grady was designated for assignment on Friday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Despite being a big-league ready member of the 40-man roster in 2020, he amassed just five plate appearances for the big club, so the writing was on the wall. O'Grady could get a look on a rebuilding club, but he probably won't be breaking through on this loaded roster anytime soon.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Brian O'Grady: Multi-hit effort in win
O'Grady went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and two runs in a win over the Marlins on Sunday. O'Grady was just recalled Saturday from the alternate training site in Port Charlotte, and manager Kevin Cash wasted little time getting the 28-year-old into the lineup. O'Grady logged the first 48 plate appearances of his big-league career in 2019 with the Reds, a promotion he earned after slashing .280/.359/.550 with 28 home runs and 77 RBI across 112 games at Triple-A Louisville. As those numbers indicate, he carries some offensive upside that he also flashed during spring training earlier in 2020, so it will be intriguing to see how he performs against big-league arms over a potentially longer sample than he enjoyed last season....
