Athletics' Austin Pruitt: Opening season in minors
Pruitt will report to Triple-A Las Vegas to begin the 2023 season, Ben Ross of MLB.com reports.
Pruitt re-signed with Oakland in January on a minor-league deal that included an invitation to MLB spring training, but he never made a serious push for a spot on the Opening Day roster after making just four relief appearances in Cactus League play before experiencing back tightness following his most recent outing March 18. The right-hander checked out fine following a bullpen session Saturday, so he at least looks like he'll be ready to go when Las Vegas begins its season March 31.

Pruitt gave up two earned runs on two hits while striking out a batter in one inning of relief in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Rangers.
Though Pruitt tossed five no-hit innings when he was needed for a spot start against the White Sox last weekend, the Athletics won't give the right-hander an extended audition in the rotation. After faltering in his relief outing Tuesday, Pruitt now sits on an unremarkable 4.53 ERA and 12.8 K-BB% over 47.2 innings on the season.

Making his first start of the season in place of James Kaprielian (finger), Pruitt entirely shut down Chicago's offense with two errors accounting for the only baserunners against him. He fired 41 of 55 pitches for strikes with 10 of the swinging variety and was in line for the win until the Oakland bullpen surrendered five runs in the ninth inning. Pruitt possesses a 4.24 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 46.2 innings and may have earned another turn through the rotation with the excellent performance.

Athletics' Austin Pruitt: Starting Friday
Pruitt will start Friday's game against the White Sox, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Pruitt has been back in the majors for just under two weeks, and he'll make his first big-league start of the season Friday after James Kaprielian (finger) was a late scratch. Pruitt doesn't tend to pitch many innings out of the bullpen, so it's possible that he's utilized as an opener during Friday's matchup.

Athletics' Austin Pruitt: Records first save Sunday
Pruitt picked up the save in Sunday's 5-3 victory over Seattle. He did not record a strikeout in a perfect two-thirds of an inning.
With the save Sunday, Pruitt is now the fifth Oakland reliever to record a save this season. Manager Mark Kotsay decided to go with Dany Jimenez in the eighth inning as the Mariners had the heart of the lineup due up. Despite recording the save Sunday, It is unlikely that Pruitt will see many more save opportunities as the A's turned to their top five options earlier in the game after starter JP Sears completed just five innings.

Athletics' Austin Pruitt: Steps up in long relief
Pruitt allowed a run on two hits and struck out six over 4.1 innings during Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Mariners.
Pruitt took over in the second inning after Frankie Montas (shoulder) exited the game early. This was Pruitt's longest outing of the season, and his third of three or more innings in 12 appearances overall. The right-hander has a 4.42 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB through 18.1 innings. It seems unlikely for the 32-year-old to be an option as a spot starter if Montas has to miss time -- Pruitt saw some starts in the minors in 2021 but hasn't regularly worked in that role since 2016.
