    Montgomery (1-1) took the loss against the Cardinals on Wednesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out four over seven innings.

    Montgomery kept the Cardinals' lineup at bay for most of the contest despite allowing the leadoff man to reach base in three of his first four innings of work. St. Louis would finally get to him in the sixth, however, after the lefty allowed back-to-back hits with one out, followed by an unearned run on a wild pitch. Montgomery actually pitched well on the afternoon despite being tagged with the loss, throwing 20 of his first 28 pitches for strikes while going at least six innings for the second consecutive start to begin his 2024 campaign. He also carries a solid 7:1 K:BB through two starts.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Victorious in Arizona debut

    Montgomery (1-0) earned the win Friday, allowing one run on four hits and no walks over six innings against the Giants. He struck out three.

    Montgomery looked sharp in his season debut, and the left-hander wasn't even in peak form as his fastball averaged 93.3 mph, down 1.7 mph from last year. Given that Montgomery signed with Arizona on March 29, it's understandable he still has some work to do to get fully up to speed. His next start is scheduled to come at home against his former team, the Cardinals.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Recalled for season debut

    The Diamondbacks recalled Montgomery from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

    Montgomery made two tune-up starts in Triple-A, surrendering nine earned runs across 7.2 innings while striking out nine batters and walking five. While his minor-league numbers aren't exactly encouraging, the 31-year-old southpaw is still expected to be a quality contributor to Arizona's starting rotation after posting a 3.20 ERA across 188.2 innings between St. Louis and Texas last year. Ryne Nelson (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Montgomery: Set for season debut Friday

    Montgomery will make his Diamondbacks debut Friday in San Francisco, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

    Montgomery was not sharp in his final tune-up start with Triple-A Reno on Saturday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He served up two home runs in the outing. Montgomery got his pitch count up to 71, though, and as long as he bounces back with no issues he'll join Arizona's rotation next week. It will be either Tommy Henry or Ryne Nelson bumped from the rotation when Montgomery returns, and Nelson stated his case to stay Saturday with six innings of one-run ball versus the Cardinals.
