  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Registers steal in loss

Gimenez went 0-for-2 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch and a stolen base in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the White Sox. The steal was his seventh of the season, but Gimenez had attempted just one theft (and caught got stealing) over his previous 20 games. The second baseman saw his modest four-game hitting streak come to an end Wednesday. He's slashing .231/.308/.357 with three home runs, nine RBI, 22 runs scored, seven doubles and a triple through 160 plate appearances.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Pops homer in Saturday's win

Gimenez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-6 win over the Angels. Gimenez added an insurance run with his eighth-inning solo shot, which capped a six-run rally for the Guardians. Over his previous 10 games, the second baseman went 6-for-34 (.176) with one extra-base hit, a triple and two RBI. He's slashing .231/.299/.366 with three homers, nine RBI, 22 runs scored and six stolen bases through 37 contests.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Posts three-hit effort

Gimenez went 3-for-4 with a triple in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Angels. Gimenez entered Friday with just two hits and no walks over eight games in May. It's been a tough stretch for the second baseman but not one that's led to much of a reduction in his playing time, as he's sat out just once this month. For the season, he's slashing .231/.301/.346 with two home runs, six stolen bases, eight RBI and 21 runs scored through 36 contests. The triple was his first of the year and the sixth of his career.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Sitting Wednesday

Gimenez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Tigers. Gimenez will take a seat after he went 1-for-7 with a strikeout over the first two games of the series. The second baseman has struggled at the plate this season overall, but since the beginning of May, he's gone 2-for-27 with two RBI and zero runs scored over eight games. Tyler Freeman will take over at second base and bat sixth in the series finale with Detroit.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Receives first day off

Gimenez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. Gimenez is mired in a 2-for-19 slump and will take a seat Sunday after he started Cleveland's first 21 games of the campaign. Gabriel Arias will step in at the keystone and bat eighth in the series finale versus Miami.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Registers sixth steal

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Tigers. Gimenez has logged three steals over his last six games despite going 4-for-20 (.200) with two walks and a hit-by-pitch in that span. The second baseman hasn't show hesitation on the basepths with six thefts through 19 contests, and he's yet to be caught stealing this season. He's also slashing a solid .278/.350/.389 with a home run, five RBI, 18 runs scored and five doubles over 81 plate appearances. The one knock on Gimenez from a fantasy perspective is that he has often been batting in the bottom half of the order, though he hit second Wednesday with Amed Rosario (back) out.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Scores twice, adds steal in win

Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Nationals. Gimenez has four multi-hit efforts and three 0-fers in his last seven games. While that's not great from a consistency standpoint, he's hitting .305 (18-for-59) through 15 games this season. He's up to five steals, one home run, five RBI and an impressive 17 runs scored despite starting just one game hitting higher than fifth in the order.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Notches fourth steal

Gimenez went 0-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 4-3 win over the Nationals. While Gimenez went hitless for the third time in his last four games, he picked up his second steal in that span. The second baseman is up to four thefts in 14 contests. He's added a solid .291/.361/.436 slash line with a home run, five RBI and 15 runs scored. He's moved around the lineup a bit against right-handed pitchers, hitting fifth in four of nine such games. The struggles of Josh Bell, Josh Naylor and Amed Rosario could lead to Gimenez moving up the order eventually.

Gimenez went 0-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 3-2 win over the Yankees. It was small ball leading to the Guardians' first run. Gimenez reached on an error, stole second, got to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly. The second baseman is up to three steals while hitting .318 with a 4:11 BB:K through 11 contests. • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Registers second steal

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Mariners. Gimenez has hit safely in seven straight games since going 0-for-3 on Opening Day. The second baseman has hit sixth or seventh in every game so far despite his solid ability to get on base. Overall, he's batting .323 (10-for-31) with a home run, two steals, four RBI, nine runs scored and a 3:7 BB:K through eight contests.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Goes deep Saturday

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 2-0 victory versus the Mariners on Saturday. There was little offense to be had in Saturday's pitching duel, so Gimenez's seventh-inning solo shot proved to be a valuable late-game insurance run. The long ball was the infielder's first of the campaign following last season's 17-homer performance. Gimenez has gone 3-for-10 through his first three contests in 2023.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: First steal of 2023

Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs scored and a stolen base in Friday's 9-4 win over the Mariners. The second baseman's first pilfer of the season came on the front half of a double-steal with Myles Straw in the fourth inning, setting up Steven Kwan for a two-run double that put Cleveland in the lead for good. The Guardians went 3-for-3 on the basepaths in total against Cal Raleigh and Mariners pitching, and given their speed up and down the lineup, they could be one of the clubs that benefits most from MLB's rule changes to boost the running game. Gimenez stole 20 bases in 2022, but his 94th percentile sprint speed last year per Statcast suggests he could top that total easily if given the chance.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Completes $106.5 million extension

Gimenez and the Guardians agreed Tuesday on a seven-year, $106.5 million contract extension that includes a $23 million club option for 2030, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. The buyout on the option is $2.5 million, so Gimenez is guaranteed at least $109 million and could get as much as $128 million if the option is picked up and he hits all incentives. The long-term deal starts in 2023 and covers Gimenez's last pre-arbitration year, all three arbitration years as well as three and potentially four free agent years. The 24-year-old made his first All-Star team and won a Gold Glove in 2022 with Cleveland, collecting a .297/.371/.466 batting line with 17 home runs and 20 stolen bases along the way. The Guardians are also discussing a contract extension with Amed Rosario, among others, so they could lock up their middle infield for a while.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Notches 20th steal

Gimenez went 0-for-4 with a hit-by-pitch and a stolen base in Monday's 5-2 extra-inning loss to the Royals. Gimenez has scuffled a bit lately, going 3-for-19 with a walk and nine strikeouts over his last five contests. That's limited his chances to do damage on the basepaths, but he was plunked in the eighth inning Monday and swiped second before he was left on base. The 24-year-old has put together a breakout year with a .300/.371/.471 slash line, 20 steals, 17 home runs, 68 RBI and 65 runs scored in 144 contests while serving as the Guardians' top second baseman.

Gimenez is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Gimenez has an .883 OPS with a home run, six RBI and six runs over his past 10 games but will take a seat for Sunday's matchup with the Royals. Gabriel Arias will step in at the keystone and bat seventh.

  • Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Another day off

Gimenez is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Rays. That's two missed games in a row for Gimenez, who is in the midst of a 10-for-24 streak at the dish over his last six games, so perhaps he is a little banged up. Gabriel Arias is starting at the keystone and hitting seventh.
