  Uribe (2-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Padres after he allowed a hit and no walks in a scoreless eighth inning. He had one strikeout. The right-hander appeared set to blow a scoreless tie after giving up a leadoff triple, but he retired the next three batters on 10 pitches. Uribe entered in a non-save situation for the second straight day, while Joel Payamps closed out the ninth inning Wednesday for his second save of the campaign. Uribe and Payamps should be considered co-closers for the time being as the only Brewers relievers with any saves this season, besides Thyago Vieira's three-inning save.

  Uribe tossed 1.2 scoreless innings Tuesday against San Diego, allowing three hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Uribe had been operating as the Brewers' fill-in at closer for Devin Williams (back), but after blowing back-to-back save chances, Uribe slotted in as Milwaukee's first arm out of the bullpen Tuesday. Although he got five outs -- his first time exceeding one inning pitched this season -- and didn't yield a run, it seems Uribe is losing his hold on the closer role. If that's the case, look for Joel Payamps, Elvis Peguero or Hoby Milner to get some ninth-inning work.

• Brewers' Abner Uribe: Blows save, earns win

  Uribe (1-0) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in one inning Friday. He blew a save chance but picked up a win over Seattle. Uribe blew the 5-3 lead in the ninth inning, but the Brewers walked it off win in the bottom of the frame. The 23-year-old had converted each of his first three save attempts to begin the year before Friday's hiccup. He owns a 6.75 ERA with a 2:2 K:BB through four innings.

  Uribe allowed no hits and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning earn the save in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Twins. He did not record a strikeout. The 23-year-old righty issued a five-pitch walk to start the frame but promptly induced a double play and retired the side on just eight pitches. Uribe already has three saves for the 4-0 Brewers, with Joel Payamps also notching a save when Uribe had pitched the previous two days. Uribe appears to be separating himself as the top option to close with Devin Williams (back) facing an extended absence to begin the season.

Uribe and Joel Payamps project as the two likely candidates to take over as Milwaukee's closer after Williams was diagnosed with two stress fractures in his back Wednesday. In his first season of big-league action, Uribe logged a 1.76 ERA and 1.17 WHIP across 30.2 frames. However, neither Uribe (six earned runs, 4.1 innings) nor Payamps (five earned runs, 2.2 innings) have put together a strong spring, making it unclear who the early favorite is for Opening Day.

  Uribe was optioned Monday to Double-A Biloxi, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Uribe reached Double-A for two appearances in 2022, and it looks like the right-hander will return to Biloxi to open this season. The right-hander was limited to just those two games because of a torn meniscus in his right knee, but he shows a fastball that can touch triple digits and a swing-and-miss slider, and he could make his MLB debut sometime this summer.

• Brewers' Abner Uribe: Undergoes knee surgery

  Uribe underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the meniscus in his left knee and will be sidelined for 6-to-8 months, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Uribe is a flamethrower who was moving up prospect lists, but his season will come to an early end due to his injury. If all goes as planned with his recovery, the 21-year-old righty should be ready to go when spring training rolls around in 2023.
