Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Sent to minors
The Athletics optioned Diaz to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.
Though Diaz displayed impressive contact skills during his time at Las Vegas and Double-A Midland in 2022 and even acquitted himself well during his brief run in the big leagues late last season, the Athletics will have the 22-year-old open 2023 in the minors and afford him the chance to play regularly. Since he lacks major power and doesn't contribute as a base stealer, Diaz's fantasy upside isn't particularly high, but his stellar hit tool may be enough to earn him steady playing time in the majors at some point in 2023.

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Hitting seventh in debut
Diaz is starting at first base and batting seventh in his big-league debut Sunday against the Astros.
Diaz will have the platoon advantage Sunday, but he'll also be facing Framber Valdez, who has been one of the most dominant starters in the league in the second half. Diaz, one of Oakland's best hitting prospects, figures to see time at first base, designated hitter, second base and third base while playing regularly over the rest of the season. He hit .326/.366/.515 with 19 home runs in 120 games between Double-A and Triple-A.

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Promoted to Triple-A
Diaz was promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Intriguing returns in Double-A
Diaz is hitting .309/.354/.500 with 14 home runs and a 22:60 BB:K through 89 games for Double-A Midland this season.
There was some concern about whether he would be able to sustain his productivity in High-A last year (.821 OPS) at a higher level of baseball, but he's done that and more. The power (40 extra-base hits) and the contact ability (15.6 percent strikeout rate) make Diaz an exciting hitting prospect despite his defensive limitations. Previously a third baseman by trade, Diaz has appeared there just seven times this year, as he's mostly played first base or served as the DH.

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Joins 40-man roster
Diaz's contract was selected by the Athletics on Friday.
The move prevents Diaz from being selected in the Rule 5 draft. The 21-year-old has some potential and hit .288/.337/.483 in 90 games last season, but those at-bats all came at the High-A level, so he's not close to making his major-league debut.
