The Rangers have announced that Carrillo underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Friday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. The 25-year-old Carrillo has yet to make his MLB debut and was attending camp as a non-roster invitee after joining Texas on a minor-league contract in December. After requiring the reconstructive elbow procedure, Carrillo will miss the entire 2024 season, and his availability for the start of the 2025 campaign could be affected, too.... See More ... See Less

Nationals' Gerardo Carrillo: Assigned to Rochester
Carrillo cleared waivers and was assigned to Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Carrillo was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Tuesday and will now likely begin the 2023 campaign as a member of Rochester. The pitcher spent the 2022 campaign with High-A Wilmington and Double-A Harrisburg, surrendering 17 runs over 20.1 innings while striking out 27 batters in 19 appearances combined with the two clubs.... Nationals' Gerardo Carrillo: Loses 40-man spot
Carrillo was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Tuesday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports. Carrillo was acquired from the Dodgers in the trade that sent Trea Turner and Max Scherzer the other way back in July of 2021. He struggled to a 5.59 ERA in eight Double-A starts that season before missing the majority of 2022 due to a shoulder issue. When he did pitch, he pitched almost exclusively in relief, struggling to a 6.94 ERA in 23.1 innings split across three levels.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Gerardo Carrillo: Comes off minor-league IL
Double-A Harrisburg reinstated Carrillo (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Thursday. Carrillo made two relief appearances for Harrisburg over the weekend, giving up four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three across one inning out of the bullpen. The right-hander had previously resided on Harrisburg's IL since late April due to a sore shoulder.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Gerardo Carrillo: Placed on injured list
Carrillo was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list for an unspecified reason Wednesday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. Carrillo was serving as a reliever to begin the regular season, and he allowed seven runs while striking out six in five innings. However, his velocity was down recently, and he'll be forced to miss at least a week due to his undisclosed injury.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Gerardo Carrillo: Working in relief at Double-A
Carrillo has been working out of the bullpen at Double-A Harrisburg. A former pitching prospect, Carrillo has profiled better in relief for a couple years now and it seems the Nationals have made that transition official. He has logged two single-inning outings this season, giving up three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Gerardo Carrillo: Sent down Monday
Carrillo was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports. Carrillo spent the entire 2021 campaign at the Double-A level and posted a 4.76 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 96.1 innings across 23 appearances (22 starts). The right-hander should advance in the minors this year but will need to display better results if he hopes to make his major-league debut.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Gerardo Carrillo: Traded in blockbuster deal
Carrillo will be traded from the Dodgers to the Nationals on Thursday, along with Keibert Ruiz, Josiah Gray and Donovan Casey in exchange for Trea Turner (COVID-19) and Max Scherzer, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. Carrillo has spent the entire season with Double-A Tulsa and had mixed results. While his 4.25 ERA and 1.32 WHIP don't stand out, he's managed 70 strikeouts across 59.1 innings. He's likely to join Double-A Harrisburg once he is officially traded to the Nationals.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Gerardo Carrillo: Sent to minors
The Dodgers optioned Carrillo to their minor-league camp Monday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Carrillo will likely open the season at Triple-A Oklahoma City or Double-A Tulsa. His last minor-league action came in 2019 at High-A Rancho Cucamonga, with whom he posted a 5.44 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over 86 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Gerardo Carrillo: Added to 40-man roster
Carrillo's contract was purchased by the Dodgers on Friday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. A 5-foot-10 righty, Carrillo lacks typical starter size, but he has a starter's pitch mix. He threw 86 innings at High-A in 2019 and spent this past summer at the alternate training site, likely setting up an assignment to Double-A or Triple-A in 2021.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Gerardo Carrillo: Makes 60-man player pool
Carrillo was named to the Dodgers' 60-man player pool Sunday. The 21-year-old right-hander made 23 appearances (21 as a starter) at High-A Rancho Cucamonga last season, accumulating a 5.44 ERA and 1.60 WHIP along with an 86:51 K:BB across 86 innings. Given his age and absence of experience beyond the High-A level, it would be a surprise to see Carrillo reach the majors this season.... See More ... See Less
